Jessica Simpson & John MayerIt appears that the epic romance of Jessica Simpson and John Mayer has run its course. Please ... contain your surprise.

As first reported by Perez Hilton, Jess and John have indeed split. TMZ cameras caught a solo Mayer at NYC hotspot Stereo last night, looking just fine on his own. Get in line ladies, he's single again.

As for the reason for the, er, bustup, a rep for John refused to comment on the Grammy winner's personal life, as did Jess' rep.

Could it be because he's on the Time 100 Most Influential list having conversations with presidential hopeful John Edwards while she's pushing her hair extensions? Hmmm...

Some things just weren't meant to last.

31. OK, there is one thing that is really bothering me. Does anyone know Jessica personally....or John for that matter? I don't so I can't say anything bad about her. Also, I like John for his music, not his social life. As far as I can see, him dating her hasn't affected his music in any way. So why does it matter who he is with?? Who knows, other than him, what makes him truly happy. Whether he is with her, or Martha Stuart is of no concern to me...I just want him to keep making great music. He never said..."Here is my new CD, and just b/c you bought it, you have a chance to date me!!!!" He owes us good music as fans, not a view into his dating life. Like I said, I don't care who he is with, he will ALWAYS be a wonderful musician to me.

37. I never had a problem with either of these two, until they got together. It just didn't seem to fit. Now that they are separated, I like them both more than ever. Jess gets pitty points, sort of, there is only so much pitty I can have for a double D cup, once Maxim cover girl. I am sure they with both rebound beautifully. I wish them each the best of luck in finding someone who better suites them.

39. ##35/Lindsey I don't think you could ever understand how much music and the artist that created the music can affect a person. Good for you, that you can separate their personal and professional life. I choose to admire an artist/celebrity based on their professional, as well as private life. Paul McCartney is a great example of a man I can admire for his music and private life. I've seen many interviews of John on YouTube. He is funny, has demented humor, smart, and speaks his mind openly. I've seen Jessica on many interviews from YouTube and she is a self absorbed ditz with not much to say.

40. I think that the next person jessica will marry will probably be her father...and my guess is that John Mayer probably couldn't reconsile that Ashley was the good looking sister and he couldn't handle that he was dating the ugly duckling of the family.

41. The picture of John and Jessica; Jessica looks like one of those orange hookers that one sees in Las Vegas. You know the hookers that scope the gambling tables to see who is winning big, and they make their move on the gambler. Maybe she bought the dress in Las Vegas. Anyway, I hope we see more of John and none of Jessica on TMZ.

45. She's going through a nervous breakdown just like Britney did. Exposing her body by dresses 2 sizes to small. She's freakishly changing her looks, and it must really be bothering her to realize that her lil sis is way better looking than her. She is trying way to hard and not succeeding at it.
