Ass-emblywoman Misses Point in Gibson Case

Julia BrownleyMel Gibson had his rights violated after his DUI arrest and big, bad TMZ is responsible, according to California State Assemblywoman Julia Brownley. Brownley seems to think TMZ may have actually bribed someone to get the critical pages of the arrest report detailing Gibson's anti-Semitic tirade. Well, Brownley is an idiot.

The Assemblywoman, inspired by TMZ's Gibson story, introduced a bill which was unanimously passed by the State Assembly, prohibiting the exchange of money or other compensation for information in criminal investigations. Here's the problem, Julia: TMZ didn't pay squat.

Brownley said, "Mel Gibson was one of those cases where information was given out before his due process was executed." Huh? You may recall, L.A. County Sheriff's officials lied to TMZ and other media the entire day following the arrest, claiming it occurred "without incident." Officials ordered the arresting deputy to rewrite his report, eliminating all references to "f**king Jews" and other bad behavior.

So why is Brownley wasting taxpayers' money by pushing a bill with a totally faulty premise? Why isn't she interested in the fact that Sheriff's officials lied to the people they serve and manipulated evidence? How's this for a theory -- she represents the district in which Gibson and other celebs live. We're guessing Brownley is banking on a big celebrity turnout at her next fundraiser. We're just sayin'...

46. Get real 49 by About time

Your right it's about time people like Ms ASS --embly got exposed,

There was no need for that bill, unless your trying to help WRONG-DOERS COVER UP,

Posted at 8:20AM on May 22nd 2007 by Ms Ass-embly's bill is to help wrong-doers cover-up

47. Poor, poor, poor TMZ. Too bad. Boo Hoo.....

TMZ is the worst rag, trash, bottom-feeders of the bunch... and there is one HELL of a BUNCH!

Maybe you'll just crawl under that rock from whence you emerged, Harvey Levin... ya think?

48. "So why is Brownley wasting taxpayers' money by pushing a bill with a totally faulty premise?"

That has to be a rhetorical question. She's a politician is the answer. I mean, get serious....this is the state of our governments today. But very few of us seem to realize that.

49. Poor TMZ...acting like they are SO above paying money for a bombshell story! Hand them a kleenz somebody..before they cry a river of innocent tears! Media types print what ever they want...true or false...with a slight chance it may contain real facts...worry about that later! We'll print a small "Im sorry" on page 9 lower bottom corner, next week. Laws are passed all the time that have REAL impact to REAL people that take away rights of innocent people who have NO voice! Grow up and take it like a mature....what ever you claim to be...Just don't call what you do as responsible journalism, reporting the whole truth, and nothing but the truth! BLA BLA BLA!

50. Is this the same TMZ that compared Melinda Doolittle to Shrek getting all self-righteous?
Is this the same TMZ that allows a bottomless pit of racist comments on every story that involves black celebs?
Is this the same TMZ that "broke" the Alec Baldwin voice mail story?

Half stories and half truths and half ass "reporting" leaves you with no moral ground to stand on. I think that's why you identify so well with Brit and Paris over at TMZ. There are other payments that can be made like with your integrity and your soul.

51. To all those who are commenting on this woman's appearance, please post your picture on the Internet along with the URL pointing to the picture and then we can comment on your looks.

This isn't about any one's looks, faith, or other preferences, it's about media not being able to give compensation ( like money) to obtain evidence that may be used in a trial or legal case. If TMZ didn't do it, then shut up already!

52. The following was taken from Harvey Levin's biography on imdb.com:

"While covering the O.J. Simpson case for KCBS-TV in Los Angeles, Harvey Levin reported that prosecutor Marcia Clark had entered Simpson's residence before a search warrant had been executed. When Levin was proven wrong, he attempted to blame his mistake on a technician who "mis-timed" the video's clock during the editing process."

Harvey Levin (AKA: TMZ) is not new to this rodeo. Bait and switch sometimes works, right, Harv?

53. I think the point is that she is working for all of us in this state, not just the drunken, rich, racist ones. Is there no other legislation that will help California? How about tougher DUI laws? Oh, hell no, that would slow the "stars" down. She does not have to worry about getting my vote!

54. TMZ you must be learning bad manners from your posters. Quit name calling it doesn't look good. You can protest something without name calling and it would make you look better too. I don't know too much about this story. But I know you come across as being a bully. Please use fairer coverage. Name calling is just poor taste on your part. You don't have to stoop so low.

Posted at 11:28AM on May 22nd 2007 by TMZ tone it down, quit name calling

55. That's a woman?

56. Too much name calling TMZ, but you are correct that there are too many law enforcement people and political autorities who cover up for wealthy, etc. What Mel Gibson said should be reported. The law should quit covering up for people of their liking. But TMZ, why are you protecting Howard K. Stern in the Bahama's?? What are you getting in return? Is it because he is a Jew? Or is he paying you off in some way. You take care of me, I will take care of you. PLEASE START COVERING THINGS IN A FAIR WAY YOURSELF. Why haven't you reported what happened to Anna Nicole's dogs? Why do you write nasty things in a nasty tone about Anna Nicole's mother and family? Why isn't your reports about the Anna Nicole case fair and balanced? You are trying to make Anna's family look bad in order to protect Howard K. Stern. You are also trying to make B. Thompson and Shelly look bad. If it would be someone else you would be spinning it be another way. Well, at least you let us post our views about it all. That is one good thing. But you can't call yourself fair and balanced. You spin things any way you think or like. Quit taking such good care of Howard K. Stern and tell exactly what is going on.

Posted at 11:51AM on May 22nd 2007 by But, TMZ you are correct that our authorities should not cover up

57. Oh please, Harvey, cry us a river why don't you? How utterly laughable, considering your lowlife ethics.

You may not 'pay squat' but what about other "other compensation', hmm? (i.e., promises to one of your obvious 'sources', Ron Rale, to post pro-Howard K. $tern articles.)

betcha you're digging up, or probably more true, creating something scandalous about Brownley this very minute. Now, remember, Harv, if you can't find something really, really dirty on the woman, there's always her family tree, right? Do have fun, Harv -- we just know you will! You know, like you did with Virgie Arthur.

Now about Mel ~
No way is that bad boy behaving himself. Why is it TMZ backed off dogging him DAILY like Britney/Paris/Lindsay?
I'm beginning to think you're scared of Mel, Harvey!
tsk

58. First of all, defending Mel Gibson is just about as low as you can go. For people who have commented and basically said that Jewish people are oversensitive and that Christians get the same treatment- PUH LEEZE. You don't have to be Jewish (I'm not) to be completely offended and disgusted when someone says, "Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world". I don't care what religion you are, that's WRONG.

It's simply wrong that they tried to cover that up and remove those statements from the record. This "woman" is blaming the wrong people and, YES, wasting tax payers dollars.

Right on, TMZ!

59. I posted a "shame on you Harvey Levin" last night under a different name, because of his "moron" remark in the headline. Now, he tones it down just a little. Feel bad for the attack, Harvey?
