Paul McCartney: "Idol" Finale No-Show?

Paul McCartney is lashing back against rumors that he stood-up the "American Idol" finale last night (which was attended by his ex Heather Mills), after reports claim he screwed producers by backing out at the last minute.

In an exclusive statement to TMZ, McCartney's rep slammed the idle chatter, claiming that "Paul was never scheduled or approached to appear on the Idol finale." The rep added, "Even if he were, he likely would've needed to decline as he is in the throes of promoting the June 5th release of his new album. With that in mind, it would likely make it difficult to refer to him as a no-show."

Calls to "Idol" reps were not immediately returned.

You heard the news today, oh boy.

4. Why in hell would someone with the stature of Paul McCartney appear on American Idol of all places? Give me a break. AI is lucky they were able to lure their former winners back to that joke of a show.

8. I remember hearing for the longest time that he was going to either be a guest judge or a surprise guest on 'Idol Gives Back' show. When they started with the Beatles songs last night I thought "OK, he'll be walking out at any minute'.

11. Hell, I'd stay as far away as possible from Heather Mills too. Paul M is much too big a celeb to be going on that crappy show.

13. Why would McCartney lower himself to go on A.I.He was one of the Beatles, and has a great solo career still going on.A.I. is just a popularity contest whose winner is determined by what little kids who can text message in the most votes for their fav.Why would Paul want to be a part of that?

14. Regardless of his stature, that show sells more records than any show. If you go on Letterman or Leno, the Today show,et- you might see a a few thousand extra sales. You go on American Idol ( or Oprah) you probably sell an extra 50-100 thousand easily.

That's where people go to "promote."
