Celebrity Justice
D.A. Won't Pull the Trigger on Ryan O'Neal

Ryan O'NealTMZ has learned that Ryan O'Neal will not face criminal prosecution for allegedly firing a gun during a late-night brawl with his son Griffin in February.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney claims there was "insufficient evidence to prove the case" against the 65-year-old actor, even after cops interviewed and re-interviewed several witnesses.

Ryan was arrested and booked on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and negligent discharge of a firearm after Griffin's girlfriend called 911. In February, O'Neal's attorney Mark Werksman told TMZ that Ryan was badly injured in the incident, after Griffin allegedly struck him with a fire poker. Ryan's lawyer also stated that the actor "fired a shot in warning, not in anger."

Ryan's rep, Neil Hassman, tells TMZ, "We're extremely happy that the D.A., after a thorough investigation, has come to learn what we've known all along. Ryan was defending himself and we knew that's what would come out."

Griffin and his girlfriend Joanna's attorney Gloria Allred tells TMZ "There is a high standard of proof in a criminal case. The District Attorney must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Apparently the DA did not feel that he had evidence sufficient to meet that high standard. Griffin and Joanna will now explore all of their legal options."

3. This is a result of bad parenting by one or both parents that this son would be as bad as his dad. How tragic. That said, had that been an ordinary citizen, there would have been jail time for sure. Count on it!! These entertainers get by with too much and set bad examples as do the individuals in power who let them off. Disgusting when crime is rising and this could one day be a murder should they go for guns and weapons as this last time too. Too ugly and too irrepsonsible for Ryan to be let off from this charge no matter the excuse. No wonder we invite illegals into our coutnry when being illegal is not criminal, it's a word with no meaning anymore.

4. Way to go Ryan!
Griffen is one messed up son! He tied up your other son and then chased you around with a poker when you walked in on the horror! Good thing that you were able to defend yourself by shooting a warning shot. Griffen and his abuse loving girlfriend need some serious help! I pray for their child! Good thing that the DA saw how crazy they were and that your friends were there to tell the truth. Without the witnesses, you surely would have been charged in a pile of lies!

6. Ryan has raised disfunctional children Tatum is still struggling with addiction along with her brother Griffin for at least 30 years. His youngest is probably in rehab as we speak. He has never learned to control his anger and instead used it in the place of disipline. His true love, Farrah Fawcett is battling cancer, and he just finished a bout with lukemia. I hope that he gets it, but I think that that is too much to ask.

8. I have to say...I like a guy who can still love a woman after she had left him for an abusive younger man. My ex-husbands won't speak to me...and one of them left ME for an abusive younger man....ugh...I don't want to think about it.

9. Celebrities are just like everyone else. Yes, they sometimes get perforential treatment, but they do have their problems. Drugs, alcohol, etc., kids going wild. We just read and hear about their problems. Are you aware of how many of your neighbors, friends or relatives have these or similar problems.

11. I would like to see the son who accused and his wife answer to the fact they tied the other son up in the dog run while "care taking". That is vile.

12. Ryan is a real loser! He is the parent and he is responsible for his poor parenting. If you are going to have sex then you must except that children follow. As the adult, he was responsible for their nurturing. He has committed a grave injustice to them.

15. What a messed up pig Ryan ONeil is. Those kids are messed up too, and so will that poor baby unless the mother gets completely away. I saw that Redmond in a video the other day and he had that same angry, horrible look on his face. Scary.
