Ty Pleads No Contest

Ty PenningtonHottie handyman Ty Pennington pleaded no contest today to charges of drunk driving, stemming from his arrest on May 5.

Police arrested the "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" star in Venice, Calif. just after midnight on the 5th. A source told TMZ that Pennington had a blood alcohol level that was nearly twice the legal limit.

In a statement, Ty told TMZ "I'm happy to bring closure to my recent court proceedings. Drinking and driving is never acceptable. I have pleaded no contest and will abide by the court's ruling. I hope this experience can help others as much as it has helped me."

Pennington was sentenced to three years probation and ordered to pay a $390 fine. Ty must also complete three months of a County-supervised alcohol education program and participate in a MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) victim's impact seminar.

Ty had initially been charged with two counts of DUI. After this plea, the second charge was dropped.

16. Yes, his license will be suspended for 90 days, except to drive to work. Also even though the fine is $390, the court charges what they call "penalty assessment" which makes the fine end up in the $1,000's. You pay another fee to get license back, you pay another $500 to go to DUI classes. And on and on. DUI stays on record for a DECADE and insurance rates double or more. Yet many get a second DUI. Obviously the system is NOT working, except to make money for lawyers and city.

21. First time offenders are usually charged with a misdameanor and will do community service and no jail time. He also has to go to AA meetings etc. This will be on his driving record for 10 years though.

28. Ty was responsible and in all of the interviews following his arrest, he has been candid and honest. It is truly amazing how some people can absolutely never forgive. I grew up with two alcoholics in my home. I have chosen to never drink. Ty made a different choice, but he has stepped up and taken the punishment. Those os you who have continued to bash him would have accepted the same deal - or a similar one for a differrent offense. In a time when so many are "pretending" to be rehabbed, are accepting no responsibility, and continuing to do the same things, I am grateful that Ty is handling things differently. Oh,, yeah, West Costian in comment number 1, I understand it can be frustrating when someone falsely uses the Bible, but it is a good thing when they sincerely use it.

God bless, Y'all!

29. Ty you have my love and support.
Now before anyone else says anything negative about supporting him, I grew up in an alcoholic family. I understand completely what alcohol and drunk driving can do. My dad drank himself to death. But I will still support Ty. Why? Because whether or not he has a problem. (I'm not his judge or his conscience) He will have a rough road ahead of him. Ty says this is closure. Ty will soon learn this is only the beginning. He will need his family, friends and fans to give him support. It doesn't matter he is a celebrity. He is a human soul first. He will always have my support as a fan and a friend.
Take care Ty, Love ya.
