Celebrity Justice
Ty Pleads No Contest

Ty PenningtonHottie handyman Ty Pennington pleaded no contest today to charges of drunk driving, stemming from his arrest on May 5.

Police arrested the "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" star in Venice, Calif. just after midnight on the 5th. A source told TMZ that Pennington had a blood alcohol level that was nearly twice the legal limit.

In a statement, Ty told TMZ "I'm happy to bring closure to my recent court proceedings. Drinking and driving is never acceptable. I have pleaded no contest and will abide by the court's ruling. I hope this experience can help others as much as it has helped me."

Pennington was sentenced to three years probation and ordered to pay a $390 fine. Ty must also complete three months of a County-supervised alcohol education program and participate in a MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) victim's impact seminar.

Ty had initially been charged with two counts of DUI. After this plea, the second charge was dropped.

32. I am always amazed at how often celebrities get caught driving drunk.
Don't they get paid enough to hire a limo or take a taxi (or a limo) home if they have been drinking?
I can understand not knowing early in the day you are going to drink so you don't have time to book a limo but driving after drinking when they have the option of alternate transportation amazes me.

If they get caught drunk, they should not be allowed to plead anything but guilty. Their managers or personal reps should make sure they have taxi or limo company cards on hand so their clients can call them for transportation.

Or best of all, DON'T DRINK IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHEN TO STOP!!

33. #14. I agree with you as to what you posted in regard to Ty Pennington, and this recent challenge he has. I have read so many post's since this started from day one. I did say that I felt Ty Pennington had to own up to his poor judgement, and when the time came he would have to serve what the court put on his plate. As you, I was never out to see him hung at high noon in the town square. I did feel that because he is not above the law as any of us are, he would certainly comply with what the court ordered without any fanfare, and would actually be come an example for other's in a possitive manner.
I have real issue's when people become cruel, and make negative statement's they have no real knowledge of. People have said thing's such as he has that look that an alcoholic has because they have known people that look as he does. Comment's that of course are anyone's opinion, but many that are just unfounded, and many past post's I have read when this first surfaced that are just so asinine. So what that he has line's on his forehead. I would like to hear from the expert's on that one. Smoking cigarette's can do a lot of damage to the skin, as well as being outdoor's in the sun for a long period of time. does he smoke? I don't know but know that. Is he outdoor's a lot ? Yes, I believe so. Why is it that remarks are made that he needs botox? People talk out of the side of their neck's alot, and they are the one's that need to look in the mirror at themselves, I have to do that daily because I need to live right with myself. As I have said before in other post's, I feel Ty Pennington has taken the positive step's to rectify this matter with the utmost respect to ABC, Disney, the many sponsor's of EMHE, his gifted crew, and the many fan's he has, and those that watch EMHE. I pray, and hope the best for him as I hope his future becomes even brighter, and he becomes even more a better human being then that which he already is. I hope that he will remain on this show as Ty is a very gifted, and talented person. All of those that have made comment's about him being so hyper on the show and he must be on something, what do you really know? Any more than me? Zip, zilch, noda! Clearly it seems that there are many that may need more of a wake up call then Ty has gotten as their action's also speak for themselves. I don't, and will never condone drinking, and driving. But, I will always be aside the person that is serious about making better choice's in life so it may lead other's to do the same as Ty through the court's, and his own action's will prove so that many other's may start making better choice's about drinking, and not driving. I have seen both side's of this scenario as I am a retired bartender, and come from a family that has been behind the show business scene for over fifty year's. i have seen, and heard much. what do I know? Not as much as I need because I am still as we all are, student's of life. I have been told that a video is going to be done at my house, ( not a home as of yet ) and my story sent to EMHE. I have delayed doing this as I have seen so many more deserving people that i feel are out there, yet my son's, and the rest of the family, and friend's would like me to agree to have it taken, and sent. I may just step up to the plate, and tell it all to those at EMHE as I do feel I too can help other's from the choice's I have made rather good, or bad choice's.
Thank you Ty for doing what you need to do for yourself, and for those that need to follow, and learn from your choice's here on as we all need to do....we all are student's of life.
God bless you, and may you always continue to be in the winner's circle.

35. To Post # 33 ShoBizBoomer
Loved your post & thank you. I agree with you 100.
I noticed a lot of people do not even read the article they are posting to! That may answer some questions (duh did Ty get probation?)
As far as Ty's looks go, well I smoked but did not drink yet it has taken it toll all the same, Your right one never knows and it's very mean to speculate over when someone is down..
Ty will have a long road to go. Probation In Hollywood is it? That goes by ever so slow... So many enticements! ( think farm in Idaho ty:)
But my bet is on him. He can and I have hope of, his using this bad experience and turning it into a plus.

37. I agree with you Kate. I feel differently about Ty who I have respect and hope for than I do Paris who I do not. Her disclaimers and corporate lawyers did it I think
" It's not right to drink & drive,Even if it's only a little bit" Her words tell me it's not over.
I think she is feeling the need to change. She just does not know why.

38. #35. #36. Thank you both for your inspiring post's. When I was much younger, I was a student of life as well, but it I never did acknowledge, or see it that way. I had my no-show day's as a student of life back then, and with that being said, I learned that it has blessed me in this time of my life. Through many joy's, but many challenge's as well, I feel that there is someone out there that I hope to be a voice to whose life I can help make a change in. I have been on a journey for quit some time now, many year's to be honest that I never thought I would be asked to do in this life of mine. It forever will be a burning blaze in my heart that I will never let leave me because there are so many people that I hope one thing I say may make a positive difference in their lives.
As for Ty Pennington, and the many people that are in this business, I learned when I was a very young girl that these really are people that are just like every one else in this life we have been given, rather if many have more than other's, or the attention they get, or seek to get. They really are real people, just like us, but it's very hard for many to get by the status they have, and the riches they have established along their way. Many of us get so ticked because the thought that someone whom may be in the spotlight may get better treatment when the siren's sound, and the officer has the flashlight in one's face, but not always for those in that industry does it always happen, and not for many other's as well that are not in the show business industry as we all know to well. For anyone that may have gotten off, or away with something that we seem to get our arm's all knotted up by, it will come back sometime in their life, and that action, or lack of good judgement will surf up, and bite 'em where it will hurt them, and other's as well.
I do not know Ty Pennington personally, but I do feel he knows what it means to be a student of life, and will use the many platform's in life he has been blessed with to continue to change the lives of many while he continues to host EMHE, and many other avenue's in life he may take that will, and can make a difference in so many way's.
I am reminded of this daily as a student of life. Remember, if you ever need a helping hand, it's at the end of your arm, as you get older, remember you have another hand: The first is to help yourself, the second is to help other's. (Audrey Hepburn) Don't kick 'em when they're down, help them up again. (Boomer)
Keep on keepin on Ty!
As always, Boomer

40. I hope Ty learns and does not "eat his words". Set an example for these Rich Twits of late with their DUI probs. Love ya Ty! You can work on my house anytime!!!!!!! If one must drink, have the good sense to NOT DRIVE. It's selfish to put others at risk.

41. He is taking responsibility for a bad decision. We should not judge and be thankful that he is man enough to accept what he did.

43. We all like to play the saint when these things happen to others by saying how wrong it is, but truth be told, more of us commit these acts of stupidity as well but are just fortuneate not to get caught, therefore, are the good guys. I completely agree that you should NEVER drive under ANY influence, but, if you do make that terrible decision, and have to face your demons head on, at least do it with honesty and integredy as Ty did, and hopefully learn from your experience, and NEVER judge others. There are many factors in ones life to determine their fate, and we should never assume the right to decide what is right or wrong for a single individual. Good Luck Ty.
