Opri to Birkhead: Pay Up!

Opri and BirkheadUPDATE: In an exclusive statement to TMZ, Larry Birkhead says:

Despite their filings, both Ms. Opri and her attorney received notification making them aware that I would be out of the state of California taking care of my daughter until the conclusion of an upcoming June custody hearing in the Bahamas.

Although at this time, the public is not aware of the unbelievable circumstances which led to me firing Ms. Opri, the only question at the end of the day is, how much money will Debra Opri be paying me? Thanks to the efforts of my Bahamas attorney, Emerick Knowles, I am fortunate enough now to be spending time with my daughter, Dannielynn.

TMZ has obtained a court document filed by Debra Opri in which she claims that Dannielynn's daddy has refused to pay for legal services.

In the petition to the court, filed today in Los Angeles County Superior Court, Opri claims Larry Birkhead "has refused and continues to refuse to pay [her] for any of her services." She now wants a judge to step in and force Larry to engage in binding arbitration.

In the document, Opri claims she "spent hundreds of hours working on Mr. Birkhead's case," which the documents say were at a cost of $475 an hour.

As TMZ first reported, Birkhead and Opri parted ways when their relationship went south. Opri then presented Birkhead with the mother of all legal bills -- totaling nearly $650,000 -- charging him for travel expenses including steak dinners, lobster take-out and laundry service for Opri's husband. Opri told TMZ that the bill was "fair and reasonable."

31. This woman loves being on TV, she tries too hard to portray herself as an intelectual.

33. Pay up Larry, you're the one that hired her. You could have talked to Anna and done this out of the press.

Instead you tried to prove her an unfit mother to get custody and wanted twelve hundreds dollars a month for child support. You pressured Anna and that's why she is dead, because of you !

35. Debra Opri* has proven to be an enormous disappointment as a high priced attorney and, hopefully, Larry Birkhead has everything in writing! The press statement she made only two or three hours before he had his initial Bahamian Court session was unforgiveable and downright spiteful on the part of a "supposed" professional. Thank goodness she can no longer use Court TV on behalf of her cases!

*Pamela Bach is going to regret the day she ever hired Debra!

36. Opri is such a bad-assed lawyer! What a witch! She got tons of publicity, now she should go away and take her ugly face with her.. We're so glad you got your baby, Larry, but your bitchy lawyer didn't do anything for you. She's a pile of - you know what! Good luck, Larry.

38. I think Larry should have to pay some of the bill. He owes her because she represented him. If he was really charged for her husband's laundry he should not pay that. jmho

39. She probably didn't need to verify it once it was discovered he was the dad of the baby who stands to inherit millions. You Larry defenders are as dense as she was.
He had no interest in that kid until Anna died. Boo hoo Larry, put a crimp in your 'escort for hire' service?

The only vicitm in all of this is the little girl who should have been given to adoptive parents who didn't even know who she was and wanted her anyway.

41. She is a greedy, bill padding media whore. I think it's hilarious that she represents The Hoff's ex and even after that drunk video of him, he STILL got custody of the kids! Kharma is a wonderful thing, Ha ha!

44. Larry owes Opri, like her or not. With out her and Virgie, he'd still be on the outside looking in. They are the ones who made the filings and got the publicity needed to pressure the system to get the correct result. Larry had absolutely no standing in Florida and because of Opri and Vergie, he was given the platform to show his character and get the public behind him.

As with any contested bill, you must pay for uncontested services. There is no excuse for not making a payment on those items not contested. My brother gets $300 an hr for his services as a patent attorney and he is at the low-end for his services.

Larry's case was multi-jurisdictional and required much travel and support teams. It was his obligation to ask what this was costing him, BEFORE the costs were incurred. So while I think the bill was too high, Larry needs to grow up and realize that high-profile attorneys are expensive!!!!

Too bad he probably can't sue Stern for attorney costs for putting him through this ridiculous court battle.

45. If you hire a lawyer you have to pay them. That's the why it goes.

Why should Larry get away without paying his bill ? We all have to pay lawyers when we hire them.
