Celebrity Justice
Paris' Medical Condition -- Mental, Not Physical

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ Paris Hilton's medical condition was purely psychological and that she was in peril of having a nervous breakdown, and that's why she was released early this morning.

Psychiatrist Charles Sophy visited Hilton in jail yesterday and the day before. We're told after Sophy's visit yesterday, word was passed to the Sheriff that Hilton's mental state was fragile and she was at risk.

The reason for releasing her had nothing to do with a rash or other physical issues. It was purely in her head.

Last month, on the eve of a trial in which Hilton was accused of slandering socialite Zeta Graff, Dr. Sophy told the judge that Hilton was "emotionally distraught and traumatized" over her jail sentence, which prevented her from participating in a meaningful defense. That trial was put on hold until August.

UPDATE: Law enforcement sources have just told TMZ the County Jail medical team made the final decision to spring Paris based on Dr. Sophy's psychological evaluation. And we're told, Sheriff Lee Baca gave the final approval.

65. Oh Give me a break. The little rich bitch COULDN'T HANDLE IT!!! This is even more reason why the people with the camera's should just STOP showing up and taking her picture!! Who cares anyway? Please, can we not just let her quietly go far, far away??? She doesn't deserve the attention!! When will people wake up and realize this?!?!?! In my mind there is an island for all the unsavory people...one for the men and one for the women. Paris can be the QUEEN of the female island for all I care, just get her off the news, off the magazines, off the web sites. (by the way, Tom Cruise can be the KING of the male island)
Thank you for allowing me to vent!!!!!!

66. her daddy`s money bought her freedom and do you really think any of the hiltons` care what we think? They`ll sit out the 40 days and then go on a looooooooooooooooooooooong expensive family vacation to recovery from the unbearable mental trauma and stress. lol what a joke she was in special care and couldn`t even tolerate it. imagine if she had been in the gen pop or booked in like most having to spend 10 days in the bullpen..................oh my.

67. Am very happy that she has been released. Good for Her and her Lawyers. She should have been put on House arrest in the 1st place.

All you people on this board are just hating on her because she's rich. Justice is different for the rich so why are you surprised about her being released early.

We all knew this was coming in the first place.

Rock on Paris...I'm not one of your fans but I felt you were being used as an example.

Note to Paris...Hire a personal Driver

68. all excuses aside - young hollywood, pressure, etc. - she broke the law - she was assigned time, and ultimately accepted it, making her a hero... now is let out on a mental condition (which up to 80% of the people in there have)... give her meds and make sure you take the belt away, like everyone else....

70. She is no one important what has she done thats for the good of our country. So her Daddy is the one with the money not her. every one needs to stop giving her the attention and the socialite won't be no more. every one needs to stop buying into all this publicity to keep her name in the papers. Lets just make her disapper out of the lime light and go on being the loser that she is.

71. So they say she is having a breakdown!! "Law enforcement sources tell TMZ Paris Hilton's medical condition was purely psychological and that she was in peril of having a nervous breakdown, and that's why she was released early this morning"
Like the rest of you I believe it is such a BS excuse, I am sure they have people to deal with psychological issues, isn't that why most of the inmates are there?
Forget about contacting the LA Sherrifs office, that corruption and cover up has already happened, what people should do is contact the LA District Attorney's office for a full scale investigation as to what really went down, what money changed hands/ or what speacial favors were granted.

Email address: webmaillacountyda.org - driect you email to Steve Cooley - LA District Attorney

72. I wonder how many other convicts get released for "mental anguish?" Isn't that sort of the whole point? You aren't supposed to be happy in jail.

Posted at 1:24PM on Jun 7th 2007 by Michele

73. I just figured they let her out because she was a huge health risk to others.....

74. So this means, that if I or anyone else, drive drunk, then get stopped two more times driving on a suspended licence, and am sentenced to 45 days in jail, reduced to 23, that I only HAVE to say, I am having a nervous breakdown, and I get to GO HOME??????
This is truly UNBELIEVABLE to the AVERAGE PERSON, SUCH AS I.
If this happened to me, or any number of the people that were in jail, with her, like them, I would still be there.
I was VERY PROUD, THAT FINALLY, we had a CELEBRITY that was willing to face their PUNISHMENT, and now, I have lost faith in not JUST THE SHERIFF AND THEIR DEPARTMENT, BUT IN THE WORLD WE LIVE IN, THAT IS ALWAYS WILLING TO GIVE YOU A BREAK "IF THE PRICE IS RIGHT", NO PUN INTENDED!!!!!!!!!!!!
JUST UNBELIEVABLE.
I AM ABOUT TO LOOSE EVERYTHING I HAVE, BECAUSE I OWE SO MANY BILLS, YA THINK, IF I CALL EVERYONE UP, AND SAY, I AM HAVING A NERVOUS BREAKDOWN, THAT IT WILL JUST GO AWAY. I DON'T THINK SO--NOT UNTIL MY LAST NAME IS HILTON.
