Celebrity Justice
Judge to Sheriff -- I Was Sandbagged

Here's what's going down in court right now:
Judge Michael Sauer, Sheriff Lee Baca, Paris Hilton
Judge Michael Sauer said that before Paris was released, he was contacted by the Sheriff and told they would file a motion to place Paris under house arrest. The judge said the motion was never filed, and added, "There's no way I would have approved it even if I got the motion."

The prosecutor, Dan Jeffries, who is also pissed at the Sheriff, accused the Sheriff of "assuming all three roles of the criminal justice system," claiming "Sheriff Lee Baca is interpreting the law all by himself."

98. What is Baca's interest in acting essentially as Paris Hilton's best defense lawyer? Isn't his job to act in the public interest? How, between his biased preferential treatment of Mel Gibson and now Paris Hilton, both racist, drunk, speeding DUI spoiled celebrities who use the public roads as their playground, in the public's interest? Does Baca feel that all DUI-ers and probatio violators should be set free or given home arrest? Or only the ones who can do something for him? I say, he release everyone under his custody who meets Paris Hilton's same criminal activity and mental state. WOULD HE DO THAT PLEASE as to demonstrate he's showing no favoritism, bias or preferential treatment?

99. I am so damn tired of seeing this bimbo on the news. She is nothing more then a spoiled brat that needs to be accountable for the poor choices she has made.
My 11 year old has more ethics and maturity then this plastic barbie.

101. Paris Hilton is a disgrace, but so is the judge.
Anyone who knows anything about similar cases in LA knows that anyone without a prior record - like Hilton - charged with a DUI parole violation would have gotten at most 3-5 days in jail.
The judge treated her differently - which is as wrong if he gives her too harsh a sentence as it is for too lenient.
And it is totally normal for the LA Sheriff to use its discretion in these cases.
Had Hilton killed herself in jail, LA County would have been facing a multi-million dollar law suit - and even if they prevailed, cost the County possibly millions of dollars in legal expense.

I can't stand Hilton, but this whole farce is making me feel sorry for her.

103. This Sheriff is out of control. This is starting to resemble a coupdetat. I thought our system of government was above that third world mentality.

104. OMG, please send her back to jail. Her mother was quoted as saying "It's in God's hands now." WTF??? God had nothing to do with it!!

105. Thank God for Judge Sauer, now we know, no one is above the law. Something the sheriff should be aware of. The Judge should send Paris home and make the Sheriff go to jail for 45 days for violating the Judge's explicit order. Paris has 36 months probation pending, I see more jail time in her future going by her antecedents.
