Celebrity Justice
Paris Standoff -- Sheriff vs. Judge

TMZ has learned the reason Paris Hilton stayed at home while the lawyers and judge sat in court is because the Sheriff's Department refused to pick her up.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ the Sheriff's position is that the judge does not have the power to order her to court. The Sheriffs believe they have sole jurisdiction to monitor and control Hilton while she is under house arrest.

The Sheriff's Department says they are the only ones authorized to take her anywhere. Thus, the standoff in court.

The issue may have been resolved, but that is why the hearing was delayed this morning.

61. I have it figured out. it's all a conspiracy against the American people. The ones involved are bing paid by the Federal GOv (Bush) it is meant to distract us from Iraq, the price of gas, the immigaration illegals, etc. For the next 18 months I bet we see a lot more of this craziness.

64. Okay... The Sheriff's Dept was paid off, and to keep the money, they've got to do whatever is necessary to keep Paris out of jail.

I cannot wait for this to be an episode of Law & Order. IT'S GON BE TIGHT!!!

65. This is crap. No one could over-ride a Judge when it was Terri Schivo, the handicapped woman whose husband wanted her starved to death and it took 2 weeks for her to die. Even the President couldn't over-rule the Judge, so how can a lousy Sheriff over-rule the Judge and his decision???? This doen't make a lick of sense! put the whore back in jail. She must have blown the whole department with that "hot" mouth. That and the big financial pay-off.

67. If this Sheriff is not fired ........ how can we trust that he won't just pull this again tomorrow (or over night when the Judge is sleeping)?

Is there another jail where the Judge can order her to go? (Not a better one, but one where this ridiculous Sherrif doesn't work.)

74. What an embarrassment to our country and judicial system this fighting is, as is letting a spoiled girl out of prison because she is refuses to eat jail food when many poor families would do about anything for it!

75. I know that this Hilton story is big news, but what about the starving children? When will put as much attention to that domestic issue as this entertainment? Don't forget this is all for ENTERTAINMENT purposes.
