Paris Hilton is "teetering on the brink."

Law enforcement sources have told TMZ that Hilton has been crying a lot, praying and extremely withdrawn.

Hilton is in the medical ward at Twin Towers, an L.A. County jail facility. She is in a room by herself with a glass door. For her protection, a sergeant guards the door at all times.

We're told Hilton hasn't eaten or slept since she arrived yesterday.

Sources have described her condition today as "fragile" and "despondent." One source called her "a train wreck" while another said she is "sullen and withdrawn."

We've learned her shrink, Dr. Charles Sophy, spent more than two hours with her this morning. Hilton's family can't visit today. In the medical ward, families can only visit on Sundays and Tuesdays.

We're told Hilton is receiving "appropriate medical attention." We're told she's being given psychotropic medication.

33. Geez, leave the girl alone already. Were was all this outrage when Michelle Rodriguez served 4 HOURS of a 60 day sentence for a violating the probation she received for a DUI by getting yet another DUI????

34. I'm not sure how anyone thinks Paris is being treated fairly. It's insane and the punishment is way too much for the crime.

35. Aw, what a shame...poor baby feels bad in jail. It is jail, it is not suppose to be be hard, it is suppose to be punishment.

She was convicted of a DUI, and broke her probation three times. She could have been sentanced to 90 days, 45 days it is not outrageous.

I would be distressed too if I was in jail...that is why I would not drive drunk...and if I should make a mistake, I certainly would not be foolish enough to thumb my nose at the justice system.

Let her cry, maybe she will think twice next time...gee, just like punishment is suppose to do.

38. Oh well. She is a big girl, time to start acting like it.

She probably wouldn't be in all this mess had she not broken the law, not violated her probation and not showed up late for court before she was sentenced.

She showed a complete lack of respect for the legal system then and she is getting lack of respect in return.

You brought in on baby! Karma will and is biting you in the ass.

39. Ok, I am not a huge Paris fan at all. I do think she needs to fire her attorney. He knew that NO electronic monitoring was allowed in the first ruling. He should have asked if the Judge was aware that this was going on. If not contacted the judge and said hey, she is not doing well at all, this is what BACA wants to do.

Instead this happens under Baca's control and I agree paris is caught in the middle. I feel she should get to do her original 23 days. Plus its not like she was going to do only 23 days of house arrest, it was 40. I do feel bad for her at this point, I feel bad for the hilton family. I mean if you do the crime you need to serve your punishment, fines, community service, house arrest anything.

But yesterday, she got caught in the middle of a bad situation. The attorney should have had all the I's dotted and all the T's crossed before his cliet got the bracelet, BACA should have done it too, and this judge is makeing a major example of her.

40. She is NOT suppose to have fun in jail. It is a punishment NOT a party. If she is really ill, then they can treat her in jail like the rest of the inmates. She wants to be treated like everyone else (according to her stmt. at the MTV awards) , then she gets no special treatment. Perhaps her HERPES are giving her problems. She shouldn't be such a slut!

41. Good she's behind a glass wall, so she still gets some attention. Good that she'd getting meds. I guarantee she will eat when she gets hungry enough, not having appetite depressing "drugs" available. Meanwhile each day she is closer to freedom. I hope she is praying, it works much better than medication. I hope her parents don't make things worse when they visit. They should be very careful not to say things to perpetuate her infantile dependency on them and their resources. As she can see, not even Dad's connections beat the law this time.

43. Paris is in the psych ward. Quit sugarcoating it TMZ! And if she can't sleep give her some Lunesta or Ambien. WTF! Does she think that if she doesn't eat they will let her go home again? She doesn't ever eat anyway so what's the big deal!

Still proceeding with her temper tantrum. Others in jail are despondent as well.

Suck it up Paris and do your time and come out of there a GROWN UP instead of a little girl.

44. Don't you think her handlers are reading all of this? If they really wanted privacy and we really concerned for her health, none of this would get out.

Notice how they mention the family can only visit on Sunday and Tuesday? Watch for the heart wrenching, tear stained visit from her Mom tomorrow.
