Did Secrets Screw Phil Spector?!

Secrets Can Be MurderPhil Spector had 'em. So did Scott Peterson and Natalee Holloway. In fact, some of the most sensational trials of the last several years can usually be traced back to one thing: secrets!

"We have secrets and we have the same secrets that criminals have," says Jane Velez-Mitchell, author of the new book "Secrets Can Be Murder." Jane tells TMZ, "Sometimes the only difference between a criminal and a law-abiding citizen is that somebody found out the criminal's secret."

In the book, Velez-Mitchell looks at cases of the likes of Spector, Holloway and Peterson -- and the secrets that made these stories so sensational. And Velez-Mitchell says there is an easy way to avoid having your secrets blow up in your face: "Honestly is always an option, even when you don't think it is." See, your mom was right!

Secrets Can Be Murder is available now. Jane will be signing copies of her book at Book Soup in West Hollywood on June 14 at 7:00 PM.

6. What??? What secrets did Natalee Halloway have?

7. I wonder if OJ had secrets.

8. What was Natalee Holloway's secret? TMZ makes it sound like she had something hiding in her closet. MAybe I missed something. Does anyone know?

9. To #12 I don't think Natalee Halloway had any secrets. Maybe she was just too nice and trusting and looked for the good in someone which conflicted with her sixth sense which should have been: run like hell away from strangers. I think her friends know something and no one is talking. Watch them wait 20 years, then it will be too late. Someone has to be accountable for something. I will vacation in the USA from now on and no where outside of this country, I do not feel safe.

10. No one is completely safe anywhere. We need more self awareness. When people use drugs or alcohol, we don't have that sixth sense. We have to know ourselves and avoid second guessing ourselves. If something doesn't feel right, then it's not right. If it sounds like a duck, its a duck or an asshole.

11. Is "honesty is always an option" another way of saying
deny everything - make counter- accusations? LOL

12. That’s enough! Boycott The Peoples’ Court (Harvey Levin’s show) and its advertisers until he cleans this website up and stops appearing all over television supporting Paris Hilton and talking about how wrong it is that she is in jail.

What a sad excuse for a “lawyer”, if he even really is one.

13. I had the same question as #12. Natalie Holloway? She didn't murder anyone and to suggest that her secrets got her (supposedly) killed... well I've been following that story since it broke a couple years ago and I didn't hear about any big secrets. She was only 17 I think and just on a class trip and probably made a judgment error in who was good company that night.

14. Errr....since when is Natalee Hollaway a criminal with a secret?

15. The most profound sadness about the Lana Clarkson murder is that it could have been prevented. Had anyone or even several of the people he had threatened with a gun throughout the decades had the sense to follow through with filing charges and getting him prosecuted.

John Lennon, The Ramones, his first wife, girlfriends, personal assistants…the list of people he pulled guns on is nearly infinite and well documneted. Yet, many including the Ramones and John Lennon mistook severely mentally ill as musical genius. And, those that did see he was disturbed were too scared and falsely intimidated by his status and wealth; believing Spector and his contacts were too powerful to take on.

Had Spector faced the courts before he killed someone, Lana Clarkson would likely still be alive today. Spector would have been given a court ordered psychiatric exam. And, with a conviction record would never have been allowed to legally own and register firearms.

“Tearing Down the Wall of Sound” is a great book of insight into the musical genius and also the obviously dark and disturbed side of Phil Spector. The author Mick Brown was the last to have an interview with Spector just weeks before Lana was murdered. And, he’s written a well documented and detailed chronological of the Life of Phil Spector; the musical as well as the ticking time bomb of a mentally disturbed man.
