"Real World's" Frankie Dies at 25

Frankie of the Frankie Abernathy -- the punked-out, boat-phobic rock chick of MTV's "Real World: San Diego" fame -- died at the age of 25 on Saturday at her mother's home in Shorewood, Wisc.

Abernathy suffered from cystic fibrosis, though an official cause of death has yet to be determined, according to MTV News. During her stint in the "Real World" house, Frankie exhibited symptoms of cystic fibrosis, such as difficulty breathing and immune-system impairment, and it was a significant part of her storyline on the show.

Frankie had some tumultuous times on the show, and ended up leaving the house before the end of the season.

348. I did not personally follow her career however, when someone so very, very young dies it really touches my heart. May the Peace of the Lord be with her family as they embrace this tragedy in their life. Again, I am so VERY VERY sorry!

351. PEOPLE Cystic Fibrosis is not a death sentence. If you take care of yourself everyday and go to the doctor regularly you can lead a normal, full life. I'm 15 with cf and I've only been hospitalized once so far. Your health depends on if you have a mild, or severe case and how well you take care of yourself. My condolences go to Frankies family and she was a great person. However, if she smoked, that's part of the reason why she died so young. Smoking is bad for anyone, but with someone who has cf, it's a death sentence. The average life span is now 37 and getting higher every year. New treatments are coming out and a cure is not entirely impossible. R.I.P. Frankie

355. We, the family, thank those who are being so real with this situation. I was her uncle(cousin actually, but with the age difference, she always called me uncle). For those who have family that had problems(I believe everyone has)and can admit that at least to themselves and are totally honest and true in their confessions on here,,we thank you. For those that are on here for hate or just because they have nothing to do other than insult someone who can't now defend themselves, get a life. We have had a very terrible time with this even though we knew it was coming. If you have nothing better to do than to insult someone who has passed, then you have nothing to do at all. We do thank all that have been so nice and generous through this whole thing; and those who just say and play it out, but in this bad time, it would be nice if people would just be nice. I'm not saying you have to like her or accept what she did, but leave it alone if you can't be at least somewhat cool. When she was two days old, I held her in my big hands; and there was a bond right away. We really remember the "Little Frankie"...So leave it be.....For those who can't seem to do that,,or didn't even know her then...,these big hands can do more than just hold a sweet little child.....How many have the nerve to contest that?......Doesn't really matter.....For I won't even be on this page again.....She's gone now and we move on.......Maybe you should too>>>>

358. In response to #279 and other people commenting on how CF is a horrible disease and that ppl who have it, die young. Do your mother freaking research before making a statement on a subject you barely know. It sucks to have CF, but each person who has it, is affected differently. I have CF and lead a normal, healthy life. The only difference in my life compared to a regular person, is that I have to do more things to keep myself healthy. I've only been hospitalized once and when you first see me, you could never tell i have a disease. I may be someone who has CF, but in no way does it define who i am as a person. Just because you're currently a healthy person, you have no right to associate a destiny of a shortened life with people who have CF. Anyone could easily get hit by a car, or get cancer in the next year. All I'm asking is for people to stop saying CF is a death sentence. There's an 81 year old man who has CF!!! Basically stop pittying people with this diease, because a cure is possible and not everyone with CF is miserable and dieing. Ultimately never pity someone with a disease or disability, because they may very easily live a more fufilling and possibly longer life than you. That's all i have to say folks;)

359. I just found out about this horrible news this evening. ): She died just a week after my seventeenth birthday. I'm absolutely heartbroken. She is such a lively spirit I don't know how she could ever be silenced. She inspired me from the very beginning--since I first saw her on Real World San Diego years ago. I printed a picture of her then, I still have it and I plan on keeping it with me for a long time. She is one of the most beautiful people I've ever had the opportunity to have known about. I know that everyone who was blessed by her presence--if for even a moment--has something to be thankful for. I hope that she stays alive via the eyes of all who know her and I hope her soul and beautiful mind are still basking in the joys of life.
