BET Awards -- The White Elephant in the Room

Hang on tight -- its about to get racial up in here. TMZ has learned that 2007 could be the first year that a white musician wins a Black Entertainment Television Award ... besides Michael Jackson.
Robin Thicke, BET Awards
Platinum-selling superstar Robin Thicke has been nominated for two BET Awards: Best Male R&B Artist, and his song "Lost Without You" is up for a Viewer's Choice Award. Only two other white artists have ever even been nominated for a BET Award -- Justin Timberlake and Eminem -- but neither of them took home the prize. Could Robin break down the BET color barrier?!

The competition is thick; Thicke is up against Akon, John Legend, Gerald Levert, and Ne-Yo for Best Male, and competing with Beyonce, Birdman & Lil' Wayne, Bow Wow featuring Chris Brown, Ciara and UNK for the Viewer's Choice.

The BET Awards will be live from The Shrine in Los Angeles, Tuesday, June 26.

166. Robin Thicke is a great artist now matter what coor he is, and Bet is not racist because when VH1 has an awards do you see any black people anywhere. Bet don't make fun of people of different race. Get over it he did't win they other people are equal but the one that won was the best. SO GET OVER IT AND MOVE ON!!!!!!!!!

170. this is in reference to the #8 question by :themomma
you need to sit down and shut up. bet is far from racist. and Robin Thicke is very talented and i believe he is gonna win. This is far from a race issue. but since it was put out on front street what about MTV?????? They didn't play black music like that or embrace it until some one step and spoke on it. So to say that bet awards is racist, you are stupid for that.

And #14 you agreeing you sound like you are racist.
bet was put out for anyone who embrace the african american community. and to have more people of any race feel welcomed. i seen people from every race on bet and the awards shows. I feel like other awards shows ain't giving (some) black people credit for what they do that's why bet awards was created. to show appreciation for blacks and white and for the work they put do.

171. i agree with #170

you can count on your fingers how many black ppl you find on other networks mainly because in the beginning it was all white actors and actress so when you don't know what your talking about you shut up ok? and robin thicke is freaking genius but kind of unoriginal and everybody in that catergory was original...so the competition was stiff

i remember someone saying a comment about WET, there already is a WET channel...do you watch NBC? SO shut up and let us have some time to express our selves ok!

172. There shouldn't even BE a BET award! How racist is that??? Why don't we have WET? White Entertainment Television??? Yeah, and every civil rights activist would be breathing down our throats! Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton etc. etc. Enough of this crap! The slaves were freed, ya know?
