Thousands Tell County -- What's the Deal with Paris?

A TMZ user fired off an e-mail to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, complaining re: Paris, "Money talks, regular folks stay locked up." Here's the response he got from the Sups:
LA County Seal, Paris Hilton
"Thank you for your note regarding Paris Hilton. We have received thousands of e-mails from members of the public on this matter. Please know that the Board of Supervisors shares your concerns and has asked Sheriff Lee Baca to make a public report next Tuesday, June 19. The Sheriff has been asked to provide the reasons for the premature release of Paris Hilton from the Sheriff's Century Regional Detention Facility, including the reasons for not placing her in an appropriate medical facility such as the jail ward of the LAC+USC Medical Center. As you may know, the Sheriff is an elected official, so the Board of Supervisors has limited authority over that department."

76. The name of the nurse ( Linda Witland also uses the name Linda Ruttlen) was at fault,
because she was the frontliner for this patient, but she did not give the patient even the basics of care or help. Nurses do a nursing diagnosis and follow a certain protocol.

Vomiting blood and falling on the floor ment this patient was in serious trouble,

Ibufrophen (motrin) should have never been given because it causes more internal bleeding.

The nurse could have summoned the ER doctor, yes again, because the pain was unresolved and the discharge papers specified for her to return if she had vomiting or more pain.

The nurse tagged the patient as a complainer or psych case throwing a temper tantrum or seeking attention or drugs This happens alll the time.

This hospital has the worst violations and has caused death to so many blacks and hispanics

77. I CARE ABOUT PARIS, I HOPE SHE IS DOING WELL AND DON'T PUT HERSELF IN THIS SITUATION EVER AGAIN.

78. Patrica73 she is not a little girl, she is a 26 year old racist elitist. I think alot of the outcry is not about the celebrities getting off easy, just people want to see her getting her due. She has been nasty long enough, karma is just biting her on her herpes infected ass.
BFairLA, well said.

79. To# 78 Who posted the article about the woman who died at the hospital emergency room and told of the women who was mistreated in jail. Can you please explain to me why that is Paris's responsibiity???????? What happened to those women, that should not have happened, no one should be treated that way, that does not mean that Paris should be treated badly because of it. None of what people are complaining about is because of Paris, making her responsible for wrong doings is ourtageous. She has done nothing to hurt anyone but herself. All of you that write nasty things about her are just a bunch of hating jealous loosers!!!!!!!!!

Now that what goes on in jails is now out in the open thanks to Paris, maybe things will get better.

There was an article in the Los Angeles Times today. They did research and found that since 2001 there have been close to 2,000 cases of people being caught for the exact same thing as Paris, 60 percent of the cases did a minimum of a few days in jail. NOT 45!!!!!!!!! Paris is doing 80 percent of the time given her while most do only 10!!!!!!!!!!!!! Paris had the book thrown at her by a judge who let his career, ego and personal feelings get in the way of his decision and that is wrong!!!!!!!! The Sherrif probably let her out because he could see that she did not deserve what was happening to her.. Good for him.

I hope she sues when she gets out. That judge and the state deserve it.

80. City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo who has been openly critical of Sheriff Baca has his own problems. Delgadillo is facing fines for violating campaign finance laws and his city owned car was allegedly wrecked when his wife was driving it. Delgadillo refuses to answer any questions on the matter. Another top law official crook.

81. In this time and age to let a human being die and not help her is beyond me.

Then to add insult to injury, the Sheriff's arresting an emergency room patient and the medical personel allowing this, when an emergency health crisis should take priority,

I have been involved in the treatment of criminals and law enforcement is very near by but allows treatment to take priority

Posted at 7:31PM on Jun 14th 2007 by Blame the medical people around her who saw but not acted

82. People forget that she is not a hardened criminal. She should not even be in there. Giving a million dollars to a charity and then having to work in a hospital or homeless shelter would be much more appropriate.
People are just so jelous. Grow up! There are more inportant things in this world.

84. #47 and # 62 Paris ordered XANAX from outside the country under a phony name. She must have been desperate, because I would think any Dr. Feelgood in LA, like the one who treated Anna Nicole, would write her a 'script for XANAX:

85. 70. What happened to Justice being equal under the law? If you are black or latino the Sheriffs Dept. treats you completely different than the rich, white, celebrities in Los Angeles. Lindsay Lohan was driving drunk, had cocaine in her car, and ran from the scene of an accident. Yet she was not dragged to jail immediately like the Latino woman in this story that I will paste below. Linsday was not only allowed treatment at the hospital for her concussion but was also allowed to check into rehab.

Paris Hilton, a rich, white, celebrity is recieving treatment in the medical unit for dry skin, panic attacks, and depression, instead of serving her time in a regular cell like a common person would have to.

Then you have Pamela Richardson which is an African American veteran who served time in the same jail as Paris who was refused medical treatment on more than one occassion during her stay in jail. They even took away her prostesis and made her crawl to the toilet in her cell like an animal. She did not even have access to a shower for several days. She even had to go without her blood pressure and cancer medications because the jail would not give them to her. Her illnesses were far more serious than Paris' but she did not recieve the special treatment that Paris has and continues to recieve. For more information about Pamela Richardsons' pending lawsuit against the Sheriffs' Dept. check out the court documents posted at TMZ.com.

A Latino woman dies while in custody after being arrested by the LA County Sheriffs Dept meanwhile Paris Hilton still recieving special treatment while in Jail!

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- A woman who lay bleeding on the emergency room floor of a troubled inner-city hospital died after 911 dispatchers refused to contact paramedics or an ambulance to take her to another facility, newly released tapes of the emergency calls reveal.

Edith Isabel Rodriguez, 43, died of a perforated bowel on May 9 at Martin Luther King Jr.-Harbor Hospital. Her death was ruled accidental by the Los Angeles County coroner's office.

Relatives said Rodriguez was bleeding from the mouth and writhing in pain for 45 minutes while she was at a hospital waiting area. Experts have said she could have survived had she been treated early enough.

County and state authorities are now investigating Rodriguez's death. Relatives reported she died as police were wheeling her out of the hospital after the officers they had asked to help Rodriguez arrested her instead on a parole violation. Sheriff's Department spokesman Duane Allen said Wednesday that the investigation is ongoing.

In the recordings of two 911 calls that day, first obtained by the Los Angeles Times under a California Public Records Act request, callers pleaded for help for Rodriguez but were referred to hospital staff instead.

"I'm in the emergency room. My wife is dying and the nurses don't want to help her out," Rodriguez's boyfriend, Jose Prado, is heard saying in Spanish through an interpreter on the tapes.

"What's wrong with her?" a female dispatcher asked.

"She's vomiting blood," Prado said.

"OK, and why aren't they helping her?" the dispatcher asked.

"They're watching her there and they're not doing anything. They're just watching her," Prado said.

The dispatcher told Prado to contact a doctor and then said paramedics wouldn't pick her up because she was already in a hospital. She later told him to contact county police officers at a security desk.

A second 911 call was placed eight minutes later by a bystander who requested that an ambulance be sent to take Rodriguez to another hospital for care.

"She's definitely sick and there's a guy that's ignoring her," the woman told a male dispatcher.

During the call, the dispatcher argued with the woman over whether there really was an emergency.

"I cannot do anything for you for the quality of the hospital. ... It is not an emergency. It is not an emergency ma'am," he said.

"You're not here to see how they're treating her," the woman replied.

The dispatcher refused to call paramedics and told the woman that she should contact hospital supervisors "and let them know" if she is unhappy.

"May God strike you too for acting the way you just acted," the woman said finally.

"No, negative ma'am, you're the one," he said.

The incident was the latest high-profile lapse at King-Harbor, formerly known as King/Drew. The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors is investigating claims of recent patient care breakdowns, including Rodriguez's case.

Federal inspectors last week said emergency room patients were in "immediate jeopardy" of harm or death, and King-Harbor was given 23 days to shape up or risk losing federal funding.

Dr. Bruce Chernof, director of the county Department of Health Services, which oversees the facility, has called Rodriguez's death "inexcusable" and said it was "important to understand that this was fundamentally a failure of caring." He has said conditions are improving, though.

A call Wednesday seeking comment about the 911 tapes from the department's communications office, which handles information about the hospital, was not immediately returned.

Dr. Roger Peeks, the chief medical officer at the hospital, was placed on "ordered absence" Monday, the Times reported. Health officials declined to elaborate, saying it was a personnel matter. Dr. Robert Splawn, chief medical officer for the health department, was named interim chief medical officer, the newspaper said.

I guess since her Grandfather could'nt afford to pay Sheriff Baca off like Paris Hiltons' has she did not deserve necessary medical treatment prior to going to jail! If she were a white, rich, celebrity she would have recieved excellent medical care and lived instead of being dragged off to jail without being seen by a doctor!

Andrea,

There are many injustices in our society and you point out some legitimate atroscities in the system. However, scapegoating Paris Hilton, who is a human being by the way, in such a way that she is not being treated equally under the law (she would not be in jail right now for her level of infraction if she were being treated as everyone else) is not the answer. It simply is some kind of psychological stoke for people that believe she has it too good. People may not find her an appealing person and not care for her public persona, but a decent and fair person still wants justice for everyone under the law, including Paris Hilton. Martin Luther King's famous quote has it pegged right - "An injustice anywhere is a threat to juustice everywhere," because if people use the law to make statements, grandstand, teach lessons, etc., instead of being unbiased and blind, it can be done by other in other situations as well (Duke lacross players, etc.) Perhaps Mike Nifong felt those guys were a bunch of spoiled, privileged ivy league snots or something along those lines. Who knows why he did what he did. I agree with your outrage over the injustices you mention. However, making Paris Hilton the scapegoat is not right either. You don't fix something wrong by misplacing your anger and targeting unjustly. Again, Paris Hilton is a human being and has been persecuted unjustly for a very low level crime that others would not have served jail time for or very short stints. Also, why would anyone question whether Paris Hilton is well or not. I imagine she is very traumatized by this experience. I don't believe what she received was warranted, either in sentence or response from the public. She may have lived her life in a self-destructive way, but I don't believe she did anything to warrant the hateful response she got. To me, way out of proportion hostility and anger of the public is the story, way more so than Paris Hilton's probation violation. Are people this resentful of someone they perceive to have it too good that they would "lynch mob" the girl in such a hateful way? It's absolutely shocking that so many people could be this hateful toward someone that did not do anything that could have warranted this response. I think the girl has suffered enough and it really needs to stop.

87. Riley, bet you five bucks someone will be saying you're just jealous..................

Posted at 8:36PM on Jun 14th 2007 by are all you fans fricking crazy or just delusional?

88. I saw the vid of Paris. I do not like this child. She is your typical, , arrogant, spoiled blue-blooded rich child. She committed a crime. She is serving the sentence. She is serving for her crime, more on an average what others in the same situation would serve. After this is over, her folks will throw her a big bash in Vegas. She will get paid more and do more celeb hopping, fashion shows, jettsetting, etc. Hopefuly, her folks will make her start a foundation for something and make her ,for pr purposes, stick to that. She is not going to become a nun. She is not going away. She is not going to get the death penalty for crime ,though many of you would like her to. She is not going to give away her inheritance and go work at a minimum wage job. She is not moving from her home in Beverly Hills to the projects in L.A.
Her prfume line I think would have been pulled from th emajor dept. stores along with Brit Spears, but apparenlty, it is still at Dillard's, Macy, Foleys, etc. I work at Dillards.

89. Hey # 89, That's right, these tragedies that you speak of are terrible. Paris, her being rich, white, famous, it does not make her responsible for these tragedies. This is America, we have the right to be rich and famous, her grandfather made the family billionaires on his own hard work, we all have that right, just cause you did not is no reason to hate and blame, you are no better than those who hate for race or religion. You keep spouting off about African American and Latino women being mistreated, so what white women never are??????? What difference does it make what your ethnicity is, no one should be treated badly for any reason, no matter who they are or how much money they have.

Paris is not responsible for the mis justice in the world. What the hell is wrong with you???????

So they get to use thier money to get them what they want. It may not be right, it's been this way for centuries, and believe you me if you had a daughter in her position and had the money to help her out, you would do it in a heart beat. She does not deserve this kind of punishment!!!!!!!!!!!!!
