Mischa, Rumer, Bruce Set to Ruin Film Classic

Rumer Willis has been cast alongside her father, Bruce Willis, and Mischa Barton in a teenage take on the noir classic "Chinatown." No, that is not a typo.
Mischa Barton, Rumer Willis, Bruce Willis
Barton plays the most popular girl in a Catholic school who stumbles upon a sinister conspiracy while investigating the theft of SAT exams, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Bruce Willis co-stars as the principal while Rumer plays Mischa's less attractive friend.

Rumer's only previous acting credits are all in films starring either mom Demi or dad Bruce. Nepotism, continuing to ruin Hollywood films.

113. The partying celebs are not the only ones who think every stoned idea they get is a great one. Clearly the suits in the tower are smoking too much weed. You cannot remake Chinatown. Name one remake that has succeeded--much less exceeded--the original. "Psycho"? Mr. Willis should know better. Here he is ramping up for the promo of the new Diehard, and from all signs this too will be a techno-CGI rehash beyond anything resembling believability that will fall far short of the original 20 years ago. Christ, doesn't he have enough $$$? He should legally change his name to Gordon Gekko. He used to be a decent actor, even good, promising. In the original Diehard he had said he went to another place, acting-wise. I recall some very solid, emotional scenes he had. Now this Chinatown project is green-lit because he signed on...with the stipulation the producers put his kid in it. They foist this crap upon us and the syncophant critics swoon all over themselves in their self-serving reviews and we spend out 5, 7, 10, 12 dollars and the best thing about the movie experience is the $7 popcorn? (Working title: "Like, Chinatown").

114. I she's wanting to get into movies, a profession that's totally based on how you look and how you can act, then she opened herself up to public criticism. Or, do you bleeding-hearts think we should just give her our money and thank her for the honor?

115. I was trying to think how I would feel if I were Rumer. I think the criticism would cause me immense pain and I would most likely get very depressed and angry. I would want to put myself in the hands of plastic surgeon asap. But even after successful surgery the damage to my psyche would probably not recede.

On the other hand, Rumer struts her stuff. She walks red carpets, frequently turns up where she knows the paparazzi will be, has her picture taken and is willing to make a movie. And since the movie screen has never enhanced anyone's looks, I can only imagine that each and every flaw is greatly exaggerated.

Therefore, it looks like this kid has an impressive self image in spite of Demi & Ashton the press and the public. She must be an unusually strong person.

116. I think Rumor looks just like her mother.

117. As for whether they will be ruining a classic film by the remaking of that film? Hold your comments before seeing the film. There have been many instances where a classic film was redone. Sometimes the remake turned out to be BETTER than the classic because the acting was better, the cinemtography was better, and the directing was better. Sometimes it was worse. Have any of you ever saw the original film to begin with? If you did, ask yourself how they could improve on the film, if the film back then was considered a B rated film in its day. The remaking of various films, especially B-rated films from past decades that have not seen a theater release in years, might cause people to take a look more at those classic films. The old classic films are disappearing. They need preservation because they are on nitrate film that crumbles over time. Over half of all the Hollywood films made before the 1950s have been destroyed. Maybe this is one of those films that cannot be presevered and saved, so rather than save the film, Hollywood has elected to remake the film as a means to preserve the story. There are many reasons why Hollywood would do a remake. Don't assume that the film is going to be BAD from the get go before you even have a chance to view it. I can think of one movie a horror movie where remaking the film brought out some interesting view points. Cat People. The original 1940s black and white movie didn't show that the woman turned into a panther. You saw the change, but via shadows on the wall. They didn't have the special effects features back then. The 1980's version of that film you saw the woman actually transform into a black panther. You tell me which is the better film. They are both considered classic films. And the 1980's film was a REMAKE of the 1940's film. So, not all remakes are alike.

118. ALISA:

Have you even seen Chinatown?

1. It was not a B movie and was made in 1974
2. Phenominal cast included Jack Nicholson, Fay Dunaway, John Huston
3. Nominated and Won Academy Awards, Golden Globes, etc...
4. Special effects don't make movies great! Great acting, great direction (Roman Polanski), and great writing do!
5. I really can't think of a classic remake that has done well!
6. Cat People was more of a B-movie cult film. You can't even compare the 2.

Can anyone on this blog put together a list of classic film remakes that have done better than the original?
