Is Chris Matthews Full of S**t?

Click to return to TMZ.comMSNBC's Chris Matthews let the S-word slip out during yesterday's live showing of "Hardball" -- the second time this year Matthews "cursed" on the air.

Returning from a commercial break, Matthews apparently didn't know his mic was hot when cameras caught him saying to producers, "We're all reacting here, putting on s**t. We have nothing." He then quickly snapped back to reality and recovered with, "Welcome back to 'Hardball.'" Good cover.

Back in January, Matthews said "s**t" while conducting an interview, but laughed it off and quickly apologized.

S**t happens.

31. Love when Chris says "CHEENEY" instead of Cheney!

32. Since MSNBC is on cable different rules apply then over-the-air traditional broadcasts, cable content is not subject to fines since it isn't being broadcast over the public airwaves. So basically this is a mote point.

Now, if it was said on NBC Nightly News then it would a different issue, and could be subject to fines from the FCC -- but probably wouldn't as a recent FCC ruling regarding such utterances - this is from an NYT article last month:

"If President Bush and Vice President Cheney can blurt out vulgar language, then the government cannot punish broadcast television stations for broadcasting the same words in similarly fleeting contexts."

33. Chris Mathews used the F-word when he was a call-in guest on the Imus In The Morning Show just a week or so before Imus made his own outrageous but overblown remark. Imus wasn't amused with Mathews. It seems Chris can't seem to control himself on national television. He would HAVE to be a real foul-mouth at home.

36. #35 " an ass kisser for the left"????? you cannot be serious.... Southern Yankee you need to stay away from the moonshine if you really believe that. If you consider him on the right I don't even want to know who you consider a liberal.

38. In response to the idea that Chris Matthews will get off easy for saying the S-word, but a right wing TV personality would be attacked for it, is crazy! First, this IS making headlines (obviously). We're all reading about it! Second, cursing (could) be a bigger deal for right wingers like O'Reilly because THEIR audiences are "conservative". Although it's hard to believe that anyone could be mortified by the S-word today.

By the way, conservative hosts ARE given some slack too. Lest we forget? O'Reilly is a perv and Limbaugh's a druggie. They're still on the air!

39. Dennis first of all I would like to tell you I don't drink. I am entitled to my own feelings just like you are. I watch the Matthews show everyday. I am not a lefty but a moderate left. Matthews does suck up to the right all you have to do is watch his interviews. I am northerner living in the south. My heart is and always will be where I am from which is in the north. Yes I am a democrat who loves her country and see it going in the wrong direction. If the Matthews, O'Reilly's of the media world did they job in the beginning we would not be in Iraq now. Oh by the way am in a family with over 60 yrs military service. All the servicemembers are all democrats. So don't by that we are all republicans.
