Isaiah: There's No Way I'm Homophobic

Isaiah Washington talks about his experiences working with gays and lesbians as if they aren't commonplace in Hollywood. And water is not wet, and the sky is not blue.

During an interview with the Houston Chronicle, Washington pointed out that he was once hired by a lesbian, saying, "I've been working with lesbian and gay [sic] for 21 years in this business. In New York, my first job was given to me by ... an African American lesbian."

Isaiah says he gets along splendidly with people of all sexual orientations. He told the Chronicle, "My whole existence has co-existed evenly and beautifully with individuals who happen to be gay." Well, except for that whole T.R. Knight thing.

19. Dear Isaiah,

Why should anyone let you off the hook if Mel Gibson hasnt been? Or Kramer? Or Imus?

Had you simply shot TR Knight in a fit of anger and blamed it on racism, gun laws and passion, then maybe you wouldnt have been fired.

You must always remember (now tattoo this on your ass) that PC Ettiquette is by far the most power deal-breaker in the world, its more profound than gun control, war and health care.

Sincerely,
ME!

21. OK, if a non-african american makes any derogatory remarks, he or she got fired. If an african american makes the same remarks, and we're expected to look the other way???

What a crock of bull's butter!!!

I guess an unemployment lines are getting a bit too long...huh???

22. Like so many people have said...Enough already! You said it, you didn't say it...whatever. The more you protest, the more guilty you look... and...you are also coming across as someone who might need some anger management classes. In any event, what's done is done and just move on...Please, for the love of God...move on.

Just wanted to make one more observation... When IW made that comment of denial during the awards show, Patrick D and a couple other cast members looked very uncomfortable and even looked down at their shoes. I had the feeling then that either he wasn't telling the entire truth, or they were embarassed by what he said. Maybe in addition to his comments, he was difficult to work with? Just guessing...

23. Isaiah needs to shut his mouth, he keeps making things worse. For all of you supporters, suppose T.R. called him the "N" word, I'm sure you would all be up in arms and ready to lynch him, there is no room for hate of any kind!!!!

27. Rastaman,

I stand by my remarks and the African-American community should show some maturity and accept that just because they're a minority in this country, it doesn't give them the autonomous right to hurl bigoted terms at other minorities. If Isaiah chooses to work in the entertainment industry, he'd better realize that it is indeed very heavily populated with gay and lesbian individuals. If he doesn't like that fact, he can go find work elsewhere.

28. Lucille: do us all a favor and go away. You are a disgrace to your culture. Good grief. Don't you ever get tired of saying those same words when you fail at something or you see a 'brotha" fail as well. It happens, people make mistakes, and guess what? They move on and get better at life and the quality of life. Quit using that some old slavery, blah, blah, blah and when a secure black brotha makes a good decision, quit with the "blacks tend to betray themselves". You put them and yourself down. These directors/producers made a constructive and productive decision. Take it!

30. RASTMAN 44 - Wow - you really believe all your bull? Amazing. I bet you consider yourself "educated". You obviously are out of touch with reality, and yes, you love living as a "victim". You wrap that "pity" around yourself like a warm blanket on a cold day. Unfortunately you are a victim of self and a disgrace to society and especially to those whom you think you represent. The world is plagued by hatred - all races have suffered injustices, not just the black community or the gay people, etc. Only you see yourself as the "truest victims of today's society. Sad for you because you will stand still and not move forward. Complicating the truth does not make if truth, it just makes it convoluted, makes it difficult to understand. Simple truth is not that. Isaiah Washington was wrong, simple. Isaiah Washington was/is difficult to get along with and had a difficult time getting along with others, simple. Isaiah Washington has become what he so hates - a racist, according to today's society, simple. Isaiah Washington was fired, simple. Your reality makes the truth of the matter complicated thus going back to the square one, your views are in error and you are out of touch. You simply wish to stay in that "slavery" time or whatever oppressive time you wish to speak of, moving backwards rather than forward, simple. People often times suffer atrocities, and learn from it and they don't let themselves re-live it. They seek to better not only their lives, but the lives of others - the pass new laws, seek ever to get new laws through the doors. You on the other hand stay put in life and, well quite frankly - are boring.

Do something positive - change what you so despise, or just shut up already.
