A Banner Year for Hanson!? Mmmkay...

Ten years after most people stopped listening to Hanson, the boys -- er, men now? -- are desperately trying to get back into your lives with a super-fun Internet contest! Please, contain your enthusiasm.

Isaac, Taylor and Zach will personally write a song about you (MmmmBob?) -- if you paste Hanson.net banners all over your personal site. Fan sites that get the most click-throughs to the Hanson site will be entered to win a song written by the funky, hunky musical gods.

Of course, with Hanson, there are no real losers -- those who don't win the grand (?) prize, will still get to keep their ultra-mega-teenarific banners. Can it get any better?
Hanson
And a little fact about the boys which you may not know; we hear that they were the worst Oprah guests ever! You might have thought it was a demanding Babs, the silent Liz Taylor or even the couch-jumping Tom Cruise. Our sources tell us that in the twenty years that Oprah's been on the air, the Hanson brothers were the most difficult guests the show has ever hosted, hands down.

TMZ, bringing you tasty tidbits each and every day.

61. Even though I am not a fan of this band, I would feel like a true music lover and admit that I have their music in my collection than the crap from so many so called singers that are manufactured nowadays, and some who ruined what little "talent" they got with their obnoxious and disgusting behaviour.

62. wtf? leave Hanson be, they're the nicest and most humble guys ever.

the contest is just something cool they're doing for the fans. they always do cool stuff- I dont know why TMZ bothered to write about this one, especially if they're so lame, apparently. must be a slow news day.

63. For the staff member of TMZ who wrote this article... Seriously. Do you have nothing better to write about? You had to go out and try to bash Hanson, who I'm sure you know NOTHING about. Obviously you need to research the band a little (ALOT) more. Hanson has been around and always will be. Their fans never stopped listening. And by the looks of it alot of them have stood up for them in regards to your article. They are great guys and love making music...that's all they want to do. They also thank and involve their fans everyday because they know how much we support them. You'd be surprised how dedicated we are...and how dedicated they are to us. Involving their fans in a contest like this is only a reward for the fans...not some type of making a comeback. Good attempt on the article though...at least you gave them some exposure! Thanks!

64. This band has been making music for 10 years and have now started an indie label of their own. I think they are celebrities to look up to.

Hanson rocks!!!!

65. Bell: Yes, sadly, I know what you're saying, and honestly, I like to think that I'm a lot more open-minded than to get a "bad impression" over a song and let that bad impression rule my behavior ten years later. If that's how you are, so be it, but please don't tell me I behave that way as well. Closed-mindedness isn't as universal a trait as you make it out to be.

Also, if you dislike Hanson so much, why keep posting about them? There are three posts by you, just on this page. It's not worth the effort to go back to previous pages and count how many times you posted.

66. Articles keeps harping on the fact that Hanson did something and looked a certain way ten years ago that a lot of people didn't like (even though many of the grunge bands from that time period had the same length hair or longer). So what? What were YOU like ten years ago? Do you want people judging you primarily by the person you are now, or what you looked like/ sounded like /acted like then?

The fact that MmmBop was overplayed was not any fault of Hanson's either - it's a common media tactic. Find something the public expresses interest in, then force-feed it to them ad nauseum (cases in point: manufactured boy bands, crime and hospital shows after ER/CSI) 'cause if they like it once, they'll definately like it better 50 times.

I found twice as many juvenile attempts at humor and sarcasm than actual information in this piece, which unfortunately is the norm for internet 'journalism' these days. It's kind of funny that the only real "dirt" you can find on these guys is that they were supposedly bad talk-show guests.

67. Ugh, I see someone has posted this on the Hanson website or something, because no way this overrated nonsense band has this many supporters just popping up out of nowhere

Hanson is awful; just one more whiny, paper-thin "rock for girls" band trying to capitalize on the success of other similar-category artists who have surpassed them like John Mayer and Maroon 5. They listen to them because they think they're cute, and that influences what they think of their music. I heard some new song a few weeks back (I work in radio) that's supposedly the new single off their upcoming album and it was worse than MMMBop - grating, empty nonsense with the singer yowling "goooooo" in a hilarious falsetto that made me want to tear out my eardrums.

This band is dead. They apparently have a crew of a few hundred lifeless drones that follow them around to shows, which may explain why people keep claiming here that they are always sold out.

68. Not sure what you heard, Embalmer, but it wasn't Hanson's single. As far as I know, they haven't identified a new single from their album, but I have the Japanese version of their album, and there is no song on it that fits your description.

Their last independent album sold over 130,000 copies in the US alone. One can only wonder how those "few hundred lifeless drones" which you claim is the entirety of their fanbase, managed to purchase so many copies.

Posted at 9:53AM on Jun 26th 2007 by Sylvia

69. Wow, Embalmer, you're really pretty clueless.

Yeah, someone posted it on the website--most of us fans have better things to do then read TMZ if TMZ is going to put up trash like this. So the only way we'd leanr about this is by someone letting us know.

A few hundred lifeless drones? That's pretty sad. You've probably never met a fan in your life. They have many thousands of fans, and they are not lifeless in any way. In fact, I think I'm pretty much ALIVE, along with everyone who goes to the SOLD OUT concerts and enjoys a great show. I went to a show a few months back. Funnily enough, it was oversold by half! Every single Hanson fan must have been there (according to you) becuase there were more than a thousand people crammed in there! Besides, notice the outcry or rage? Lots and lots of fans, and clearly not just the hardcore fans either. People are actually defending them, imagine that! Hmmm, sounds like they're all washed up to me!

This article is totally inaccurate. It implies that Hanson are attention hogs who disappeared for ten years and suddenly came back trying to grab attention or something. This is a contest, one of the many things they do to involve their fans. But then, TMZ wouldn't know anything about it (and neither would several of the posters) because they don't have any idea what they're talking about!

70. you know what's kind of funny about all of this? even though this is an online tabloid, and even though it's painting hanson in a hideous light, it's still generating interest in the band- whether it be positive or negative.

sure, most bands would rather positive media attention, but hey- most of the time celebs will take what they can get. if there's buzz (even if it's a faint buzz) that's all that really matters.

No one said anyone had to like Hanson, but as long as people keep talking about them, they'll still be around. :)

ps. if you really want to enter this contest, you have to be a member of Hanson.net. the article forgot to mention that. you can't just post the banners.

71. Hey Embalmer, you said that you think that Hanson are "trying to capitalize on the success of other similar-category artists who have surpassed them like John Mayer and Maroon 5," but here is a little tidbit of info for you....

Before Maroon 5 EVER made it big...lets say at least 2-3 years before "Harder To Breathe" was released mainstream and hit the top 40, do you know who one of their main supporters (and continue to be) are? HANSON. Yes, and Hanson fans were a main contribution to Maroon 5's initial success. I would have never heard of them early on or taken an interest if Hanson hadn't mentioned how awesome they were in every interview in 2000-01. Hmm, kinda crazy huh?

Oh and if you want to check out AreYouListening.com, which one of Hanson's many projects that supports indie music, it has a list of all the bands that are also supporters of the project. Alot of bands that the majority would find "credible". So if Hanson are so dead, why do so many other bands have anything to do with them?

P.S. They may be some fans that just listen to them because they're "cute", but mostly it's about the music and the passion. That is what it's ultimately all about. Hanson's got it...and the fans love it. End of story.

72. hanson is amazing & ive loved them the past 10 years

73. Why can't people just leave them alone? Hanson is great and they want to please their fans. I think this idea about the song is really cool and many people will try to win the first place. You, who are not a fan and criticizes Hanson in this ridiculous way, should think more about it and not go saying these terrible things. They're talentous, and even if they weren't, they would deserve everyone's respect.

74. Hanson is one of the most amazing bands to ever grace the radios. You don't see them in tabliods, because they are good people. Hanson took a shot to go on there own, and they have been very successful independently. Also not only did they split from their record company, but to help others around the world, they devoted a lot of time to children in Africa. How about instead of bashing them, get your facts straight. On the independent charts they were on top!!! They are doing everything they can to be successful. Also they went to different colleges across the country to talk about the music business. You don't see many musicians doing that now do you?

Posted at 1:33PM on Jun 28th 2007 by Sarah

75. Even though I Don't Like them or their Music, I Actual DO Have Great Amount of Respect for them! They don't just Sing and look nice, they also Write their Own Music, and Play their own Intraments... and that will Always get Major Kudos and Lots of Respect from Me. I'll even go on to say that I wish All Music that Was played on the Radio today was by Genuine "Artist" like these guys... and I only use that Term for those Who DO Write and Play their own stuff, not just Sing.. those are just "Performers".

But with all that said, I'm Sorry to Say that I still can't Stand them. I DO Respect them... but I Still don't like them or their Music.... Sorry.
