Celebrity Justice
Sheen to Sizemore: I Feel Your Pain

What the hell was Martin Sheen doing in court for Tom Sizemore's sentencing today? Simple answer, really -- Tom's mom asked him to come.

After a judge sentenced Sizemore to 16 months in state prison for violating the terms of his probation, Sheen told reporters outside of Los Angeles County Superior Court that he identifies with Sizemore because he has, "experience with addiction in my own life and in my own family." And speaking of Charlie ... Martin added that Sizemore and Charlie are friends, and the only reason that Charlie didn't come to court with him today was because he's currently out of the country. Bummer.

Of course, a press conference regarding celebrities and addiction wouldn't be complete without an opinion on the Britneys and Lindsays of the world. Sheen's thoughts: "They ought to give thanks and praise that they're not facing more serious charges, like manslaughter."

LL and Britt AND of course Paris were all out for attention.

17. Martin Sheen is one of the most caring compassionat person in La la land. I really pray that Tom gets the help he so desperatley needs. This might be the best thing that ever happend to him. Robert Downey Jr. has changed his life after some time in prison and rehab. Tom is in my prayers and I wish him well. He is a talented actor and hopefully can beat this awful demon of drug addiction.

19. Hard as it may be, a lengthy prison term is the only thing that will give Tom back his life; he isn't going to kick his addiction any other way. Kudos for Martin Sheen for taking the time to care enough to give Tom support. Yeah, Martin has had his own family problems, and he admits it, but he's there for Tom and Martin is a good guy for listening to a mom and helping her out with her son.

20. I don't believe jail to be the best place for addiction and mental health issues. This is a disease that needs treatment , I mean real goddamned treatment centers not these so-called spa's like Promises and other highend treatmeant centers for celebrities

23. Addiction a killer, wrecks families, friends, just cuts you down to nothing while telling you your allright. No one thinks or dreams about being an addict when their young, it takes on a life of its own, destroys you and others, feeds on itself, a tough road to freedom, but it is possible and will happen if you are willing to go to any lengths to get sober and straight.
I did it, tough road, had to do alot of soul searching, get to the root causes, get help, hang with fellow addicts, still do because my life depends on it.
All addicts, be careful of the many pitfalls out there like hanging with the old crowd, people that are ignorant of your situation or your addictive behaviors, go to meetings-twelve step meetings like Alcoholics Anonymous, share your struggles with others, don't be shy, be bold, get the secrest out there and you will be free-fianlly of that monkey on your back.
I share my experience, strength and hope all the time, wrote a book about it, web site link to my name, check it out. My story is not all that unique but has blessed thousands over the years because it is true and I tell it like it is, no holes barred.
My heart and prayers go out to all that suffer from addiction, any addiction, there is HOPE and another, better, easir way to live should you be ready.
Don't fall for the lies from so called professionals that you need prescription pills to get through your tough times, they are tough for a good reason.
Its never too late to have a happy childhood!!!!!!!!!!!!

24. Martin Sheen is an incredible activist for Drug Courts, which help addicts with no other crime than addiction get treatment as opposed to just a prison cell. Say what you will, but Mr. Sheen has always put his efforts into very worthy social causes and has done so for decades. Hollywood should feel lucky to have any artist who thinks of others once in awhile!

25. Serena #6 post - He has said that about his own sons and himself. I can respect someone that goes to court for a friend as a show of support while not making excuses for his friends actions. I don't even like Martin Sheen all that much as an actor but he handles this type of thing with class. Who knows maybe he was his friend and sponsor.

26. I think Drug courts are a good idea. I just would not want to see where a jury would then feel more compelled or "ok with" giving someone a longer sentence than was justified just because they were going to treatment instead of jail. I think there is a risk of convicting someone when the standard of evidence was not exactly beyond a reasonable doubt only because they knew that person's sentence would not be prison.

It's sort of like what happened to Child Protective Services court whereas parents have kids taken away for things like not wanting to put the kids on psychotropic drugs just because people think they are "saving a child". If done right drug courts could do a lot of good. If done wrong, a person who smoked a joint once and got caught could end up being labled a drug addict or worse.

27. Wow ! Sixteen months for violitation of probation. That judge doesnt care who you are. Remind me not to hire the Lawyer he had....... I think that this may be Toms bottom. I sure hope so. I pray that when he gets out he heads streight for the rooms..........All the answers are there........................Good Luck Tom...

29. Harsh words but.................no one and nothing can help Sizemore unless and until he helps himself. While I don't think prison is the answer, it may help. Then on the other hand drugs are very accessible in prison. The bottom-line is this: Sizemore has to want to clean up his act and address those serious issues which cause him to do the drugs. Drugs are not the problem, his own inner turmoil is - drugs just help him, or so he thinks, deal a little better. Sooner or later, he will end up dead - it only takes but a second - if he doesn't care enough about himself to help himself.

30. This is the height of cruelty.
If not just a plain evil act
by the court of California.

The State Government owns your body
in California.
The Nazi's like that policy too.
Your body belongs to the State,
in California fellas.

Seig Heil !
I'll were my jackboots
and my Nazi arm band
the next time I'm in Sacramento.

So the court punishes a man
who is already punishing himself with addiction.

Nice Job.

Who wrote this law?
Because this an evil law
with evil intentions.
There is no redeeming quality to this law at all.
It's regressive and immoral.

He wasn't doing anything
to anybody else.
Nothing.
Nada
Zilch.

So you take away his living,
his life,
and all for what?
For smoking meth ?
Is the California court cruel fellas or what?

All possibility of redemption is lost
when you put people in prison for addiction.
It's just as evil
as our American policy of torturing our war captives.

Wickedness
Witness the evil that men do to each other.

I'll pray for the Courts soul.

Good Luck Tom

Tom move out of California.
California is for the cruel and mean spirited.
