Benoit's History of Domestic Violence Exposed

Before her grisly death, Chris Benoit's wife once told a judge that she was, "intimidated by threats of violence" from her 220 lb. husband.

In divorce papers filed in 2003, Nancy Benoit included a petition for protection from domestic abuse against Chris. In the papers, Nancy claimed that Benoit, "lost his temper and threatened to strike the petitioner and cause extensive damage to the home and personal belongings of the parties, including furniture." Nancy added that she was, "in reasonable fear for petitioner's own safety and that of the minor child."

Three months later, Nancy filed to have the divorce papers and the restraining order dismissed. A short time later, a judge granted her wish.

As TMZ first reported, law enforcement sources tell TMZ they believe Benoit strangled his wife on Saturday, smothered his son on Sunday and then hanged himself on Monday.

32. I've been a long time fan of wrestling and benoit, but can any other wrestling fans agree with me on this, remember in benoits wcw years and even in wwe why he never was a super super star he always was quiet sort of withdrawn even in the spot light he was on one of the worlds biggest stages every week but he just seemed kinda eerily withdrawn and something wierd abouit his whole demenor does anyone get what i'm saying here?

34. That poor child had a psycho father and a mother that refused to protect him.

That poor little boy may he rest in peace.

36. Who are we to judge. Yes, he had a choice and obviously made a bad one, but none of us know what happened in that house. There are no excuses for what he did, but let God be his judge. My kids were terribly upset about Chris' death, but I had to just tell them that obviously he was not in his right mind. Don't let this change how you feel about him as a wrestler. Just remember that he had to be terribly disturbed and hope that God has mercy on him. My prayers to all the Benoit family and the WWE family. God bless them and may they RIP.

37. I guarantee the WWE knew all about his domestic violence but because he was there STAR, either chose to look the other way, or covered it up. Why wouldnt she leave when she had the chance? I know fear plays a big factor in decisions like this, but having a child in an environment like that should have been the deciding factor. God rest both their souls and to hell with Chris. May the devil rape him everyday as a reminder of what a F**k up he really was. I want to know what the WWE knew about before all this S**t hit the fan, But does anyone honestly think they will ever tell the truth? Didn't think so. Boycott the WWE.

38. I'm just waiting for Vince to appologize for the idiotic storyline about his so-called demise. It's a good thing that he 'came out of the closet' last night - but he owes everyone a big fat appology for the moronic death story.

39. I have been watching wrestling for a very long time, and Chris Benoit was one of my heroes. For all of you making snap judgements on WWE, please listen. Everyone found out just yesterday, right before a live show what had happened. they did not know what Chris had done, just that he and his family was no longer with us, and wanted to pay tribute to a great wrestler. You have no right to Snap on all for what a few have done. You have no right to snap on WWE for not knowing what actually happened, no one knew until this morning. Yes, wrestling can be violent, but it is just a show. And sometimes the people we idolize do something completely out of left field. There is no justifying what Chris Benoit did. But at the same time, there were those of us who loved him, and looked up to him, and are having a very hard time dealing with their "fallen hero" as a murderer.

40. TMZ does read some comments by post-ers...this info was given by a post-er from the earlier TMZ story about Benoit. Hmmm...they couldn't be bothered to dig it up 4 themselves tho - shoddy "journalism"...but at least post-ers are on the ball...

Just goes to show y'all how destructive steroids are...time n time again...don't tell me they didn't play a role in Benoit's lethal decisions this past weekend...classic symptoms.

Shouldn't he have been memorialized? I think so. After all, he wasn't "himself" in doing this, and his entire family was immersed professionally in wrestling...memorializing his accomplishments in wrestling by the organization he dedicated himself to, which profited by his being in it, and which led to his actions via steroids is only "right".

...what should've followed is a commitment by pro wrestling orgs to ban steroids, period...not making this one man a "satan" for actions driven by steroid abuse.

Plus, his wife was no virgin to the wrestling world...she actively participated...she could've & should've been the first one to sound an alert & get a doctor or police over there...she knew or could've found out what he was taking & how much. so why make her into a saint while he's satan...grow up y'all.

41. Quit blaming the steriods. The guy was a cold, calculating, SOB who murdered his family and too much of a coward to deal with it.

42. This is a sad story, definitely highlights the need for domestic violence to be taken more seriously by everyone. However, WWE running a tribute should not be faulted. After Sensational Sherri died everyone jumped on them for not making a bigger deal. They have already posted the update that it is looking like a double homicide-suicide on their website. Also the steroids issue needs to end. The WWE, Vince McMahon, all the wrestlers are constantly drug tested. If you look into many of the firings WWE does, a large percentage of them have something to do with steroids or pain killers. That issue was resolved in the early 90s. Besides looking at most of the wrestlers today, they are just athletic looking guys who have weight trained for YEARS!

I feel horrible for this family. Hopefully if there is an afterlife, Nancy and the kid are sitting pretty in it.

43. One has to blame this on his parents. He was just doing what he thought was best for his family at the time. This frame of mind he had must stem from a questionable up-bringing.

44. #22 YOU WILL ROT IN HELL WITH HIM. THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR THIS, THE CHILD WAS INOCENT. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS PUSHING SOMEONE THAT FAR. ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU HAVE NO EVIDENCE TO BACK THAT UP. YOU ARE A SICK , SICK BASTARD
