Benoit's History of Domestic Violence Exposed

6/26/2007 2:27 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Before her grisly death, Chris Benoit's wife once told a judge that she was, "intimidated by threats of violence" from her 220 lb. husband.

In divorce papers filed in 2003, Nancy Benoit included a petition for protection from domestic abuse against Chris. In the papers, Nancy claimed that Benoit, "lost his temper and threatened to strike the petitioner and cause extensive damage to the home and personal belongings of the parties, including furniture." Nancy added that she was, "in reasonable fear for petitioner's own safety and that of the minor child."

Three months later, Nancy filed to have the divorce papers and the restraining order dismissed. A short time later, a judge granted her wish.

As TMZ first reported, law enforcement sources tell TMZ they believe Benoit strangled his wife on Saturday, smothered his son on Sunday and then hanged himself on Monday.

It is comments like the one's that I have read that make me very sad for people. While I don't condone the actions of Chris, and it makes me sick to think of what he did...if he was in a rage the police would have seen rage......This was calculated, there was not rage about this. Dose any one really know what was going on in his mind? No only he does and he will have to answer to the person he prayed to.

The WWE doctors have stated that Chris Benoit was 100% steroid free as recently as April 10th 2007. Of course anyone who believes anything said by a Vince McMahon employee is probably a complete fool. As for the steroids found in the Benoit house, they were prescribed by a doctor and were being injected into the mentally retarded and physically stunted son Daniel by his "loving" parents.

Seems like a no brainer here. Due to their grueling schedule, these guys have to take painkillers which make them sluggish. To compensate, they take steroids (which are also taken to help with the image and stunts). Eventually the steroids fry their brains. It's easy to demonize one person rather than looking at a very sick entertainment system and the society that sanctions it by watching it

I'm totally shocked and dissapointed with this whole situation. I'm not a big wrestling fan bt my husband and I watch it here and there. I however dnt think it's fair to automatically assume that all wrestlers r like that. Some wrestlers r decent people and some do give kids something positive to look up to. They're not all psycho's as some people r portraying them 2b.

Did anyone stop to think that maybe the steroids were hers, and maybe she killed the baby and he come home and then went into a rage because she killed his son.....remember they were arguing over him and she stated that she could not take care of him by herself??!!!

this just goes to show that you never know. it is a horrible tragedy, someone with so much going for them. what i don't get is why the kid, ok, so you hate your wife, (still no reason to kill), but your own kid?? i don't think it was roid rage, i think it was a deliberate act from a very sick individual that felt their situation was hopeless. there are no words to express how very sorry i am for the rest of the family, i wish there were more answers as to why, but there are none, and now no one will ever know just what would make someone snap the way benoit did. sickening, and very disturbing.

Everbody's all mean spirited and making nasty comments already. True, it's very sad, but If he had the same illness as his son what can you do about it? I mean he went total psychotic on the family. I believe in prevention-I just wish someone took the inititiave and did something about his crazy ass tendencies beforehand.

such a shame, the story i think is that he knew he was gonna kill his wife, and he knew he was gonna kill himself, and he killed his son, supposedly because of the fragile x syndrome, i just don't get it, why couldn't he give his son to his family members, just get them to take him for the weekend or something. i think it is because he knew what he was gonna do, just like when he sent the text messages out to co workers, telling them what his address was, and that the garage door is open. it was all the work of the devil, and unfortunately, there is nothing we can do or say to change it. RIP N&D

When will these women learn? One poster said it: If he was violent then, he is violent now... Leave, take your child, don't look back... When will they learn?

get tne facts straight

hey its me opinionated: WWE didnt know what happened when they aired the tribute! whenever one of the wrestlers die they do a tribute and especially witht he whole vince mcmahon storyline what they did was the right thing to do with the information they had. it was respectful. all they knew was that chris, his wife, and son had been murdered the facts were not released at that time!

and to everyone who thinks steroids played a part in this i honestly think you are completly wronge! he didnt do it at one time, it wasnt a rage he did it over several days! with roid rage its one specific instint!

I am surprised so many are too quick to accept that Chris actually did this. There is still a chance someone else did it, and knew he would be blamed. It could be someone close to the family, and jealous of Chris, because he was such a talented wrestler. I will wait until all the facts are end, to believe this story or not. Chris was a marvelously talented man....no matter what. I find it terribly shocking and sad, no matter how it happened. I see it as sad for all three. There has to be more to this story, that we do not know yet.

For many women in abusive relationships it is not easy to leave, many are trapped sometimes those who do leave they are found,so for you to say "just leave" it is not that simple.Perhaps you should learn more about domestic violence before making such a comment

miss understood

What he did wasn't right, I agree... but you have to look at it like this. It There are two families grieving here. And I believe that the steriods played a part in it, may have not been the entire reason, but it was part of it. Steriods are also thought to cause paranoia...as well as other mental effects Its a sickness... people can't help that they are sick. True he got like that because of the drugs, but the sickness itself can't be controlled anymore than you can control your times of being sick. That could be the reason for the time span of each death... who knows. Fact is, a man done something he shouldn't have and now family members are greiving the loss of a son, a father, a brother....a daughter, a mother, a sister... and a grandson, a half brother...Condolences to the familes, friends, and fans.
