Benoit's History of Domestic Violence Exposed

Before her grisly death, Chris Benoit's wife once told a judge that she was, "intimidated by threats of violence" from her 220 lb. husband.

In divorce papers filed in 2003, Nancy Benoit included a petition for protection from domestic abuse against Chris. In the papers, Nancy claimed that Benoit, "lost his temper and threatened to strike the petitioner and cause extensive damage to the home and personal belongings of the parties, including furniture." Nancy added that she was, "in reasonable fear for petitioner's own safety and that of the minor child."

Three months later, Nancy filed to have the divorce papers and the restraining order dismissed. A short time later, a judge granted her wish.

As TMZ first reported, law enforcement sources tell TMZ they believe Benoit strangled his wife on Saturday, smothered his son on Sunday and then hanged himself on Monday.

46. as a long time wrestling fan i am shocked and saddened by this, and for the people blaming steriods or drugs, please just wait until the toxicoligy report is released before you blame steroids or drugs. what also mght have done it was the fact that he suffered many concussions during his 20 year plus carrer and that does have an impact on someone's mental state. i am very shockedby this and i was always a benoit fan, but after this i just don'tknow if i can watch some of is matches now. also for the people cndemming WWE for doing a tribute show for "the coward" you all need to understand that they did not know that it was a Double Murder Suicide yet in fact when the show went live on the east coast the details of murder suicide were not known until about an hou nd a half into the show. as i said i am very shocked by this and i am very sad for his son daniel the poor kid was only 7 what a shame.

48. I once worked for the WWE and I have to say this comes as no suprise to nme,Steroids and drug abuse have long been part of the wrestling world.Over 60 wrestlers under the age of 45 have died of drug overdoses in the last several years alone.T he goverment needs to step in NOW and put and end to this madness.

50. Hello? WWE has TURNED voilent? Where have you been? It is wrestling, NOT ballet!!

And I fully believe the tribute to his family was the right hting to do for the fans. He brough a lot to wrestling. He changed the level of athleticism and made it a little less of a joke.

Knowing the kind of person everyone says he was make me believe it had to be a steroisd induced flip out. This is not excusing it, BUT get the facts before you talk abut burning in hell. I feel so horrible for this ohter children. I cannot wrap my head around this. WWE fans are looked upon as a joke, but we know more about the wrestlers than the average people. Do not judge al of WWE based on Benoit. There are plenty of wrestler that are worthy of being considered idols to children.

Who else do kids have to llok up to? The latest heires,, actressm model, starving themselves, partying, doing drugs, showing a disregard for everyone around them? If I had a kid, I would rather he/she look up to someone like John Cena, or the Hardys.

Bottom line, dont judge people before you know 100% of the story. Turn that hatred and crap-talk into some sympathy for his other children, the children that looked up to him, and the child that died.

51. 22. lets not forget his wife was a bit of a head case also...she pushed him to the brink...and this is what you get

In response to that, WTF! You have no idea along with the rest of us what she may have went through, and for a man to KILL his wife and KILL his child is pathetic. And to be such a man to hang himself because he is too much of a pussy to face the music as to what he had done! Women who have been or are abused in any fashion mentally or physically are made to feel so low and not worthy of anything good. She was stepping up and trying to get away the courts would not let that happen you never know what the hell happened none of us will, it is just sad that no one really did anything to take it seriously in the first place. May god be with the families of both of them.

53. Where have all the heroes gone? In my day we had several heroes to look up to. Today, what do the young people have for heroes? Maybe that is why there is a lost look on the faces of so many. Chris Benoir was idolized by many but something apparently caused him to snap. It may be the drugs or stress or whatever... but now he moved into the category of many other "heroes".... consumed with whatever demons that haunted him. May God have mercy on him and give us some people for our youth to look up to. May that start with us as parents and may we conduct ourselves with honor and dignity.

55. as a long time wrestling fan and a fan of chris benoit i am beyond shocked......... my heart goes out to the family. it only goes to show you we really don't know the kind of people we cheer for. this is a complete tragedy and i just wish something more could have been done to avoid it. i am just completely shocked and disturbed by this whole situation.

57. #3. i would have to agree. steroids are the norm rather than the exception in the wrestling industry and especially in that particular group that chris benoit worked for currently.
its a sad day for that entire family.
p.s. footnote here, several wrestlers had discussed the "roid" problems in that industry and the more than common "roid rage" that goes hand in hand with steroid abuse. maybe it should be banned and the providers of these steroids should be prosecuted.

58. # 9 WATCH IT, LET'S RESPECT THE DECEASED, THAT WAS NOT COOL DUDE.

59. all you soccer moms need to calm down, worry about your own families. All the details have not emerged and this story above means nothing, women do things like that all the time as a weapon in an argument, sometimes lying. As for the wwe, none of you actually know what your talking about, chris's persona was one of a goodgye, a man you could look up to, strong, fair, true, 4 REAL

60. Wrestleing has a LONG history of steroid-related tragedy...

I know people that used steroids, it was sad to see them deteriorate, mentally...

My heart goes out to the families
