Anderson Wags Yalie Finger at Paris

Click to return to TMZ.comAnderson Cooper -- once famously dubbed the "Paris Hilton" of cable news -- gave the real Paris Hilton the third degree last night, bagging on her for doing, well, nothing.

The silver-haired Yale graduate and Vanderbilt family scion laid into the GED-educated Paris on his show last night, which he grudgingly devoted to Hilton, who had just been interviewed on his good friend Larry King's show. "I don't understand her," said Coop, "I don't understand the appeal ... she's 26 years old. Why hasn't she been substantial until now?"

What was big, mean Mr. Cooper doing when he was 26? Oh, that's right -- reporting from war torn and disease-ridden countries like Vietnam, Somalia, and Rwanda.

Yeah, whatever -- how many Carl's Jr. spots does Dandy Andy have under his racquet-patterned grosgrain belt?

406.
Don't you just love the way Anderson Cooper calls it the way it is..........
If you can't deal with the truth, don't watch him.....

408. I think I enjoy reading TMZ more when they don't show any bias towards people. They like to manipulate their readers by inputting their negative comments. Some things are just rude and others are stupid. Why do they seem to defend Paris so much and want to talk about Britney's acne? This is supposed to be a website to relay facts, not TMZ rude and bias opinions.

409. re: 395. Anderson Cooper is awesome & should be recognized for his accomplishments. Paris Hilton has the same opportunities but took the opposite route. She's a loser no matter what she has. How can you possibly compare the two?
________________________________________________________________

I totally disagree. Paris has a TV show in its fifth season, a best selling book, a top 40 record, a perfume line, a clothing line and licensing agreements worth millions of dollars. You have to WORK for those things. Nobody just hands them to you. She makes it look easy and that's why you think she doesn't work.

And don't say she got those things because of the "Hilton" name. Look at Francesca Hilton. She had the same background but didn't become successful.

Anderson Cooper is full of crap.

410. You guys got it all wrong. Numerous posts about AC are censored by TMZ. Harvey Levin LOVES Anderson Cooper.

After all, if HARVEY doesn't play HIS cards right, he won't be doing AC 360 again, ever!

Here's what Mr. Levin said about AC on 6/21/06, "I really like Anderson. I know him casually, mostly from doing his show. From what I see, he's a genuinely nice, self-effacing, humble guy. He certainly doesn't copy the "I'm bigger than the people I interview attitude. If he plays his cards right, Anderson could become the top dog in "gets," and I'm thinking that's gonna happen.

HE CERTAINLY DOESN'T COP THE "I'M BIGGER THAN THE PEOPLE I INTERVIEW" ATTITUDE? Yeah, right. See today's Washingon Post.

411. >And it is true that he was pissed about having to cover her on the first hour of his show. He is employed by the network.and as he said right off the bat..'We at CNN are not above the 'news'."

LOU DOBBS is employed by CNN, and he does not cover Paris Hilton on his show, ever. So there!

Lisa de Moraes in today's Washington Post --
After which, the son of Gloria Vanderbilt more than doubled his usual "Anderson Cooper 360°" crowd with his neo-ironic performance of a journalist holding his nose and whining about having to analyze King's interview with the privileged child of a gillionaire. In so doing, Cooper joined all those media columnists who for weeks had been sniffing about journalism embracing tabloid instincts in re the Paris story, only to stick their own GREEDY SNOUTS into the trough holding the juiciest pop-culture gruel served up in ages. And Barbara Walters sat bolt upright on her Disney Throne of Principles, mumbling "tawdry" while dialing Lionel Richie on his private line to say "Hi!"

412. A few corrections need to be made.

Liz, #165, that was Becky Anderson with AC on C&C's wedding day. No, they are not married. They aren't brother & sister either, as AC said at the beginning of the program. You are forgiven because he said that at 5 a.m. We understand that you were still sleeping.

Also, AC's brother committed suicide because of a bad reaction to asthma medication. He is not the first to do this.

Another correction, Gloria Vanderbilt was FLEECED of her money by a bad investment banker. I read this in People magazine, and they discussed this on Oprah's sow.

Okay, CNN made Anderson Cooper do this segment. It is rumored that they were going to deny him his vacation if he did not do the interview.

413. Team Cooper.

I've been watching him since his late night ABC show and I've always been impressed by his intelligence, kindness and humility. He's The Man.

414. (390) Re: Is it possible that Anderson has a mother complex and attacked Paris because she's so much like his own mother? Hmmmm...

That's what I thought. I mean, he was practically foaming at the mouth... To quote Tommy Chong, "Who did she murder, by the way?"

It's interesting because USC professor Leo Braudy, author of "The Frenzy of Renown: Fame and Its History," compares Paris Hilton's antics with those of HEIRESS GLORIA VANDERBILT, the fashion designer who happens to be the mother of Anderson Cooper.

Like Paris Hilton, Gloria Vanderbilt was a party girl, a school DROPOUT. She did eventually attend The Art Students League in New York City... Maybe there's hope for Paris.

Gloria's autobiography, 'It Seemed Important at the Time: A Romance Memoir,' opens with an appetizer of schoolgirl sex with a chum from Miss Porter's School in the 1930s and then regales readers with a star-studded cast of intimates—Howard Hughes, Leopold Stokowski, Bill Paley, Marlon Brando, Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra, among others. Some were one-night-stands, some torrid affairs.

Can you say SEX TAPE? Wish they had video cameras back then. :)

"Sex was something that really saved me. I mean, it gave me a sense of self. I had very low self-esteem. No confidence at all. And the minute boys came into the picture, it absolutely changed my life," she told CBS in 2005.

Wyatt Cooper, her 4th husband, died in 1978. In 1988, Gloria 23-year-old son Carter (Anderson's brother) committed suicide. As she looked on, Carter swung away from the terrace wall of her 14th-floor New York apartment and, "He let go." She believes his death was the result of a psychotic episode induced by a prescription allergy drug, Proventil.

In an interview on Larry King Live, Anderson told of Carter's depression, a recently failed relationship, and fear of the future, suggesting that his brother had not dealt well with the stress, but repeated their mother's story that Carter awoke in a confused stupor before jumping to his death.

415. So he was projecting his feeling about his mother's lifestyle onto Paris. No wonder. He enneds to get HIS stuff together.

416. Who cares if Anderson Cooper is GAY?
He's still one of the best reporters in the world. And he has all the right to put down Paris. Why do you keep on defending POOR, FLAKY Paris, when she hasn't had anything to offer? Anderson is one rich guy who made a difference to this country. Paris, on the other hand, is brainless and didn't even graduate from a real high school. See, that goes to show you that no matter how rich you are, if you have no class, you're nothing at all. Leave Anderson Cooper alone...Your Paris Hilton would only be remembered for her obnoxious, trying hard wannabe, sex tapes and loser celebrity so called-friends!!

417. I'd tap Anderson, he's hott, but as for Paris, can she move to a deserted island 20,000 miles away from here or better yet send her to pluto.

418. #337 - coco - possibly the most elegant post here. Armat, nice posts.
Ashleigh - Bravo, you won't be fooled by any mob-mentality lynch mob.

Posters on here need not assume that any opinion that doesn't seem to burn Paris at the stake is a TMZ plant. You've all gone totally overboard over a person you've never met. Why is that? She unfortunately seems to have become the latest whipping girl representing all that's wrong with the world. She has definitely screwed up, but this mob mentality is scary.
She's a girl with plenty of faults, under an unforgiving and over-involved media microscope.

I'm not a fan , but I find a lynch mob far more frightening than this girl. You guys definitely need to get some perspective. Everyone's giving her way too much thought. You know it.

419. I think Anderson Cooper is the BEST newscaster on Television. No one else comes close.
We lived in New Orleans years ago - long before Katrina - and we are very grateful to him for keeping us informed about what's going on down there. His book, "Dispatches From The Edge" is a Must Read for everyone. Fortunately, Anderson's family gave him a good education and good morals - unlike birdbrained Paris Hilton's family. We thank you, Anderson, for all you do. You're great!!!!!

420. I agree, everyone should read Anderson Cooper's book, "Dispatches From The Edge". It's a memoir of his life, his family, and all the places he's been. It's beautifully written. Even though they both came from rich families, you can't compare Anderson and Paris. They're like two different species. Anderson is very bright, articulate and hardworking. Paris is very - what? She's not bright, articulate and hardworking, that's for sure. I hope the Media tires of her soon and starts reporting good news about good people. Pleeeeese!
