Meredith Locks Up With McMahon Over Benoit Murders

Click to return to TMZ.comMeredith Vieira went toe-to-toe with Vince McMahon on this morning's "Today" -- questioning the WWE honcho's stance that steroid use had nothing to do with Chris Benoit's grisly double murder-suicide.

Vieira was quick with a left hook to McMahon, asking him how WWE could make such a statement before toxicology results were revealed. Vince stuck to his guns, saying a press release sent out earlier this week was "reacting to the hysteria of the media," telling the press to quit speculation that "roid rage" was a factor in the killings -- until evidence proved otherwise.

On Monday, the WWE said the murders of Chris Benoit's wife and 7-year-old son were not an act of "roid rage," because "the physical findings announced by authorities indicate deliberation," and cited as evidence the time between murders and the leaving of Bibles by the bodies.

46. I have known friends who have taken steroids in the past.
I have seen firsthand how violent roid rage can be.. it is very scary.
That being said.. the murders that Beniot commited were spread out over 2-3 days.
Roid Rage doesn't last that long.. It last 20-30 mins at the most... These murders were thought out and spread out... It could not have been JUST steroids.
Now, it may be possible that it was a mixture of roids and something else.. I would not rule that out, but it could have not been just steroids to make him go off the deep end for that long of a time.

47. First, everyone needs to stop the crazy stories about everything. I love how as soon as someone says anything about wrestling, it turns into: "what losers" "who would watch that?" "they are all redneck barbarians" i dont see anyone saying this about all the women who sit home and watch all their soap operas ALLLLL DAYYYYY! This is a male soap opera. We getinto wrestling like women do to who ridge is sleeping with next on the bold and the beautiful. Is there steroid abuse in the wrestling world, of course. Is there drug, alcohol, and perscription drug abuse in the soap opera/entertainment world, OF COURSE!!! I would put my life into the hands of a steroid user before i ever put it into a drunk doped up druggies hands. Think about it. Every sport, show, industry, etc has its fair share of people who do the wrong thing. Football players beat their wives, basketball players sleep around, ex-football players kill people, do we get on them as much as everyone is doing with this? NO!! Whatever anyone says Chris was a great guy, not only was he a good father, but a hell of an entertainer, and great role model. Did he crack and something went wrong in his head, yes, but we cant say his whole life was a waste. He was a great role model to lots of people. Do role models let you down and do a 180? yes! i know alot of people who were great role models but have done something that puts a black flag over them. Meredith on today also went and just tried to get him at his juggular today. That was uncalled for. He has a business, he also protects his business. He is a very successful business man who did what he needed to do, damage control. You cant knock him or his company for trying to get rid of the black cloud over his and his companys head right now.

Chris was a good guy, but changed somehow. WWE is a great entertainment company, and always will be. We cant hold all of this against the company or industry. Thats like holding Paris Hiltons parents and grandparents accountable for her being a waste of space. Hold him accountable not anyone else.

48. Here's the deal. It's not like the cops walked in minutes after the murders, it was two days. He could easily have been "raging" during the murders, come down and full of remorse placed the bibles at the feet of his victims. They did not even die on the same day. I am really sick of hearing drug abusing "body builders" and the people getting rich off of them say how safe Steroid use is, IT IS NOT! I worked for Gold's Gym for many years and can tell you first hand that it is absolutely not a safe practice.

I cannot tell you how many people I knew, yes KNEW because they are now dead from liver, heart and countless other disease of the body thanks to steroid abuse. t''s like any drug addict, when you're in the life, you basically sell your soul insisting it's harmless, under control and not an issue.

Vince Mcmahon made his fortune through the blood of others and will reap what he has sown.

52. Im really suprised no ones pointing fingers at the rest of the drug companies. People may need a certain drug to treat an illness or something. But docters push for the new ones and bill and bill there insurance companies. While making there familes suffer with there loved ones on these new pills. And all there dirty little side effects that come with them. If something isnt wrong why do docters feel like there a god or god and hurt people. Im sure the docters get a kick back of some sort. Money or something else Etc. I see Americans as well as Foreigners getting ready to go off. I dont like what everyone is saying about the whole Benoit thing. But this guy was human after all. And I hate to say this but he finally cracked. After Eddies death awhile back I remember seeing him. He didnt look right. He was off color and seemed like he wasnt himself. He wasnt focused like someone cut out his reason for living. With only a handful of days gone by with everything the whole story should be out in acouple to afew weeks. Then I will try to make some sense of what he did and why. I myself have known what its like to watch everything I cared about be destroyed by docters that dont care and other people. And im in my early 30s. I dont like that docters and there secretaries can act like kids with someone I care about. Its like its there way or no way. You can have all the proof in the world of what works best for your loved ones and yet they still wanna hurt you even more. I promised myself something along time ago. And any American who reads this should take notice. If you push yourself to prove all these idiots wrong. I can relate to you. And I praise you for doing something right. But if they rob you of everything you have, your wife and the system takes your child. You will do what you have to do. Right or wrong. Its not about getting even its what they did to your family and tried to drag your name down to the ground like you were below the human race. Ill never convict someone who stood up to the bullies and did something humanly right for there familes and themself as a person. Its not how I was raised to be. With everything going on lately I can relate to Benoit. I think in a sad way he just didnt wanna be Benoit anymore and maybe he was carrying to many demons and his cup overflowed. And he didnt know how to deal with his son. Problems with his marriage. We all do at times. Will all never know the whole story. I believe no matter the drugs he was on or who he was fighting with he could of found another way to deal with what he was at the time. All I can do now is sit back and see what happens from here. And try to find myself in all this and pull myself together. And move on the best way I can.

54. You folks need to know that TMZ isn't a real "news gathering" service; NBC was off base in the style of the interview with the folks from WWE.

I don't think his surviving children and family are on TMZ, if they are they should click off the computer just as anyone has the right to do if a subject matter bothers them.
I also highly doubt his surviving children, family and friends were totally unaware of many things we are now learning. TMZ, The national news and peoples thoughts do not shut down in the event of a celebrity tragedy
Above all Domestic Violence / drug abuse should not be kept silent. TMZ blogger's did not cause this sad event. The killer should have thought about respect for the living, not the bloggers who react to the killers actions.

56. Vince is not the villian here. Benoit is. Vince is in fact a hero. He gave Benoit a source of employment, and even tried to show respect after he died. Benoit is a piece of crap. Vince Rules.

GO VINCE !!

I'm not sure what your post is saying?
Most are very aware and NOT gathering their news from TMZ but coming here to react to this event as News of it is every where.
I feel what your saying is we cant trust anyone other then the WWE for our news updates? Please explain further.

58. Wow! Ignorance is a plenty and alive and well on TMZ.com comment boards. Meredith showed NO respect in her interview and lacked professionalism.

The WWE is entertainment, it's an act. Vince McMahon is not responsible for the bad choices people in his organization make. Period.

I realize this is a tragedy and everyone wants to blame someone. Blaming Vince McMahon is not your answer. Something was horribly wrong with Chris Benoit. Period. I don't know what happened and unlike 99% of the sheep on here, I'm not going to assume to know so.

59. Viera did the worst interview I have ever seen. She needs to stick to topics of which she is familiar...make up, clothes and cooking. She knows nothing at the WWE and what they do. They are entertainers, professional athletes. Vince McMahon is the CEO and head of the WWE. He knows what his business is and he does not condone drug use of any kind. They have RANDOM drug screens. The Today Show is a joke and the host, Merdeith Viera, is a joke. She is the wrong person to have interviewing people. She just does not have the intelligence or knowledge to do such an interview. She is an IDIOT!!!! I will continue to watch WWE just as I have done for the last 15 or so years. FYI, I think the dropped the STORY LINE that Vince was killed when his limo exploded.

There is a big difference between drugs that are used to enhance your normal physical endurance and strength and or used to save someone's life. Different topics entirely. Someone trying to live should not spend a lot of time on the workings of the drug companies. I'm not sure what the subject has to do with America, that part of your post lost me.
