Meredith Locks Up With McMahon Over Benoit Murders

Click to return to TMZ.comMeredith Vieira went toe-to-toe with Vince McMahon on this morning's "Today" -- questioning the WWE honcho's stance that steroid use had nothing to do with Chris Benoit's grisly double murder-suicide.

Vieira was quick with a left hook to McMahon, asking him how WWE could make such a statement before toxicology results were revealed. Vince stuck to his guns, saying a press release sent out earlier this week was "reacting to the hysteria of the media," telling the press to quit speculation that "roid rage" was a factor in the killings -- until evidence proved otherwise.

On Monday, the WWE said the murders of Chris Benoit's wife and 7-year-old son were not an act of "roid rage," because "the physical findings announced by authorities indicate deliberation," and cited as evidence the time between murders and the leaving of Bibles by the bodies.

76. HOW STUPID IS THE WWE. IF A TOXICOLOGY TEST WAS DONE OVER 90
DAYS AGO IT DOES NOT MEAN THAT THIS WEEKEND HE WASN'T DOING STEROIDS OR THAT HE HASN'T BEEN DOING THEM FOR THE LAST THREE MONTHS. ALSO, THEY GET NOTICE OF THE TESTING AND THERE ARE DRINKS THEY DRINK TO FOOL THEM. THE FBI NEEDS TO INVESTIGATE THE WWE AND IF THEY DON'T INSTITUTE A LEGIT (NO WARNINGS) TESTING PROGRAM WITHIN THREE MO. THEY SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN UNTIL THEY DO. IT'S A KNOWN FACT AMONG ALL TYPES OF WRESTLERS THAT THEY HAVE TOLERATED AND EVEN CONDONED ROIDS SINCE IT'S INCEPTION.

77. Steroids can affect different people in different ways so to say that one person used them and didn't kill anyone yet is a pathetic defense. I know that I have had to use them for health ailments and they did not affect me but my husband had to take them and he had scary mood swings for four weeks. IT'S A FACT STEROIDS CREATE ANGRY OUTBURSTS!

78. I think all of the morons out there who say wrestling promotes steroid use should pull their heads out of their asses and realize that there's no proof that this tragedy is the WWE's fault. Football and baseball have the same issues. Vince & the WWE are doing what any smart company would do when there is an incident involving one of their employees - DAMAGE CONTROL. If Vin Diesel flew home and killed his family after filming a movie, would you say it was the movie studio's or Hollywood's fault?

Until proven otherwise, this is no one's fault but Chris Benoit's.

79. #70....Maybe you should start a petition that would declare Chris Benoit "Father of the Year". Great father?? Are you kidding me? Since when did murdering your child make you a great father or person for that matter? You should lay off the drugs and get your head checked!

80. I hope all the press on Benoit puts a ton more pressure on the WWE and Vince McMahon. Congress investigates baseball, why not wrestling? The travel schedule and steroids have been a problem for a LONG time. Look how defensive the WWE has been every step of the way throughout this tragedy. They don't want the heat on them because wrestling IS steroids. Keep the pressure up before more people die before the ripe old age of 45!

81. For some strange reason the WWE has always gotten away with wrestler after wrestler dying from steroids or acting out and murdering people yet nobody wants to investigate them. I know this is the last straw and things will change for good. While I agree with the previous post about people enjoying wrestling, I agree, yet I truly think if steroids were no longer tolerated (they definently are cause the testing is a complete joke!) there would still be wrestling because let's face it, they don't go to see the big muscles. They go to see the body slams, etc. and people can get big enough on their own that it will be exciting. If WWE keep condoning it, more people WILL DIE!!
