Libby Liberated. Paris Punished.

Paris Hilton and Scooter Libby have one (and probably only one) thing in common -- "excessive" sentencing -- but it's Paris, not Scooter, who actually did the time. Nice to have some friendly Bush on your side!
Scooter Libby and Paris Hilton

President Bush commuted the 2-1/2 year sentence of longtime White House aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby yesterday, calling Libby's punishment "excessive" -- just as Paris said of her own summertime slammer-time. Libby was busted for leaking a CIA agent's identity, putting her life in jeopardy. Aside from more than a few fashion disasters, Hilton was convicted of what some considered a glorified traffic violation. And who gets the free pass?

Most Americans aren't sympathetic to Paris and Scooter. When TMZ asked whether Paris got what she deserved, an overwhelming 93 percent of the more than 121,000 people who answered the poll responded that yes, Ms. Hilton deserved to do time for the crime. Similarly, most Americans think Libby should've done his too: A SurveyUSA poll revealed that 60 percent of Americans believe that Scooter Libby's 2-1/2 year sentence should stick. It didn't.

16. In many countries, he would have been dragged out back and shot.

17. kate, please freaking READ something and get your facts straight before you blather on about things that are over your head.

18. Let's see......have we forgotten that Martha Stewart only received 6 months for lying to federal officers?

Not that I'm a big fan of Libby, but he got the ENTIRE book thrown at him for lying. $250,000 fine, felonly rap that sticks forever, lost his lawyer's license, and judge wanted him behind bars for 2 1/2 years? I'd say a bit excessive. But then again....I'm not a diehard Democrat either. What he lied about was NOT against the law. Outting an undercover agent is only against the law if the agent is actively work, which Ms. Pflume was not at the time.

19. Wow, Kim. You've really put me in my place. Way to bash me without offering any facts! You have a fabulous grasp of grammatical rules, too!

20. The American people need to learn how not to vote for any more Bushes or Clintons!!

Stop the cylce: Bush, Clinton, Clinton, Bush, Bush... enough already!!

Obama is the man! He's non-Washington/non-lobbyist.

21.
He should have had to at least the same amount of time as Martha Stewert. No wonder no body tells the truth anymore in court, or investagators, EVERYBODY knows they ain't gonna get in trouble.

We the People--- I agree with you ! They should not have had the trial, and just let him go. No need to spend all those tax payer dollars, when they were just going to let him off anyway

22. okay, we all know my feelings on Paris... But now I am feeling sorry for her and very angry at the president.

This man should have been held to a higher standard then Paris. After all, he knew that there would be a consequence for his actions. Paris just didn't believe that they applied to her.

Now the president gives him a free ride. Or... Was he the fall guy and the president had to "set him free". I guess we shall never know... But one thing is certain. "I can't wait until election day"... In deed.

23. XO- you might want to recheck your facts and the sworn testimony of Valerie Plame and the CIA statement that was read into the record. She most certainly WAS undercover. She was what you call a NOC- non-official cover. DOn't buy the talking point that she was a desk jockey, because she wasn't. Her neighbors thought she was an ENERGY ANALYST because that was her cover. She worked for a brass plate operation called Brewster Jennings which was also blown by Novak. But, then again, the repugs know more than the CIA and the woman herself who WORKED the job and had her cover and the ENTIRE brass plat operation's cover blown. And we'll never know the full impact of that because the impact report is classified. How do you answer that?

24. The next President: anybody BUT Hillary Clinton.

25. kate, i am just so sick of people spewing inaccurate information. of course libby was the fall guy, it's not like cheney and the gang are gonna take the blame for their illegal acts. and soon he will be pardoned, just as was planned the whole time.

grammar? who the hell cares, i'm on TMZ, not arguing my dissertation.

26. Kate, his sentence of jail time, fines, and probation were in accordance with federal sentencing guidelines for perjury and obstruction of justice. It was a Bush appointed judge who sentenced him, too. No reason for him to go overboard, is there? What ever happened to "the rule of law" the Republicans were so big on with Clinton? I guess it went the way of habaeus corpus, huh?

27. She was NOT a covert agent..! http://www4.law.cornell.edu/uscode/html/uscode50/usc_sec_50_00000426----000-.html

And since Valerie Plane was not stationed overseas at the time of the disclosure, she is and was not protected. One cannot call an employee of CIA who goes through the Langley gates daily and publicly a covert agent.

As Plame was doing that there was no secret about her employment at CIA. Nor was she under cover.

28. My god. Are you people who write this stuff stupid or what?

How can you begin to compare 93% and 60%?

Tell me, TMZ, as I will never know: What IS it like to be STOO-PID?

29. Cheney or Rove outed Valarie Plame. Scooter had a severe attack of Alzheimer's when testifying under oath and couldn't remember any significant names/details. He was judged fairly, not excessively. He was a fall guy but because of his connections to Cheney, Rove, and Bush his @ss will be protected in exchange for his memory loss. It's a shame that the "righties" are always so willing to believe what their talking heads like Rush feed them instead of seeking out the truth. It's criminal that so many of them have lost friends or loved ones in this senseless war based on a pack of lies.

30. OK....I definitly do not support this pardon, and want to get that out of the way.

But most of you don't know what you're talking about anyway. If you're gonna bash a president...make sense while doing so.
