Libby Liberated. Paris Punished.

Paris Hilton and Scooter Libby have one (and probably only one) thing in common -- "excessive" sentencing -- but it's Paris, not Scooter, who actually did the time. Nice to have some friendly Bush on your side!
Scooter Libby and Paris Hilton

President Bush commuted the 2-1/2 year sentence of longtime White House aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby yesterday, calling Libby's punishment "excessive" -- just as Paris said of her own summertime slammer-time. Libby was busted for leaking a CIA agent's identity, putting her life in jeopardy. Aside from more than a few fashion disasters, Hilton was convicted of what some considered a glorified traffic violation. And who gets the free pass?

Most Americans aren't sympathetic to Paris and Scooter. When TMZ asked whether Paris got what she deserved, an overwhelming 93 percent of the more than 121,000 people who answered the poll responded that yes, Ms. Hilton deserved to do time for the crime. Similarly, most Americans think Libby should've done his too: A SurveyUSA poll revealed that 60 percent of Americans believe that Scooter Libby's 2-1/2 year sentence should stick. It didn't.

61. For those of you comparing this commute to Clinton's pardons is stupid. To compare any past president's pardons to other past or current president's pardons is stupid.

We should not be comparing this to anything else or than what it is. And what it is is a true travesty of justice.

This great nation was wise to have 3 branches of the government. And for the President to override one of the judicial decisions was wrong. Yes, I am aware that he has the power to do so. But just because you are the boss, if you make a bad decision does not make it right.

This will come back to bite Bush in the backside. And it will cripple the Republican's chance of getting one of their own voted into the White House in 2008.

62. Thank You GW!

You have guaranteed that a Democrat will be in the White House in Jan-08

You have also guaranteed that history will view you and your administration as a bunch of corrupt bafoons

What an idiot

64. Scooter has friends in very high places; Paris only thinks she does.

66. kate, i answered your questions, but for some reason i never got the TMZ confirmation email. my email was long and detailed and boring, maybe that's why? i dont know (my posts often dont make it onto the site), but i do know the facts of the plame/wilson/cheney/rove/libby fiasco. and it's been explained here pretty well by a lot of people. and i pointed out that the bush staff freely admits that the missing Ws from keyboards and the stolen china were lies they started.

i also agree with you that my name-calling was stupid and totally uncool, so i do apologize for that. i use this site to vent when people in the office annoy me; i love having political discussions with people i dont agree with, the name-calling is useless.

be sick to my stomach buy now.
Obstruction of Justice and this is what he does to this man?
Martha served her time, why not this creep?
Oh, I forgot men just dont like women who are succesfull and she was a scapegot
for all criminals. The two way standard is alive well in America.

70. TMZ and the rest of the media should get their facts straight.. Libby was not on convicted for outing a CIA "Covert" Agent because a reporter did that crime.

Posted at 10:33PM on Jul 3rd 2007 by Samantha

71. "Libby was busted for leaking a CIA agent's identity" -- no, he was busted for lying to the grand jury.

Posted at 7:54PM on Jul 3rd 2007 by Neil

72. GO FIGURE! THEY BOTH ARE IDIOTS.

73. this country has proved many times over that if these liars repeat their lies enough times, we will believe them! it's been the white house's most successful strategy from day one.

74. I agree. TMZ needs to stilck to "stories"., quite often correct, about Hollyweird. Scooter Libby was convicted of lying to a grand jury, not "outing" a CIA agent! Get the story right. Harvey "I feel so sorry for poor victim Paris", is the only person I know who could link drunk driving, driving twice while supended Paris, and Scooter Libby. Utterly stupid.

75. Perjury is not an act of treason. Wait, if it were, we would hang Martha Stewart! That would be okay by me.

Those with closed minds are unwilling to hear the truth even when they encounter the truth. Scary that this type of person would get to vote.

Paris Hilton's original DUI should never have been reduced to reckless driving or whatever it was reduced to. Why do that? If she was caught driving drunk, that should be the charge. They tried to do her a favor by reducing the charge and she repaid the kindness with arrogance and insolence.

Clinton pardoned 61 people during his tenure, including known terrorists and killers.
Reagan pardoned 13 during his 8 years in office.
GW Bush has pardoned 5, I think. Libby has not been pardoned.
