Al Sharpton to TMZ: "Roboho" a Big No-No

Al SharptonNational Action Network President Al Sharpton has set his sights on TMZ.com over the word "Roboho" in a fashion piece that was published two weeks ago:

"Calling any woman a "ho" is demeaning and abusive and it should not be tolerated on any level. It is intolerable to think that TMZ.com would find humor in calling Beyonce -- someone who symbolizes the strength, dignity and uplifting of Black women -- a "Roboho," and they should be denounced by the entire community for glorifying the continued oppression of women with this derogatory term. Racism in America is perpetuated by ignorance and hate and using one's airwaves or media entity to promote it is a blatant setback to civil rights and the advancement of equality.

National Action Network has been in the forefront of protesting the word "ho" and will hold a 20-city tour featuring 100 women in each market on August 7th to protest the use of the word "ho" as well as the "N" and "B" words. We encourage TMZ.com to retract their misogynistic labeling of Beyonce and apologize immediately."

TMZ's Response:

In response to your statement questioning TMZ's use of the term "roboho" in our BET Awards fashion story, please note that we called Beyonce's performance outfit a "roboho" not Ms. Knowles herself. There is a difference. As to accusations that our comment was racially motivated, TMZ has humorously called into question many celebs for wearing racy outfits -- regardless of their race. We've called Lindsay Lohan's trashy ensemble a "HO-rror" and even gave Kid Rock a humorous "ho" reference in a December 2006 story. Isn't the context in which a word is used almost as important, if not more so, than the actual word? While others may have used the term with maliciousness -- we clearly did not. It was a humor piece -- as all of our fashion roundup stories are.

TMZ appreciates your feedback, Rev. Sharpton, and the dialogue it has opened, but it is clear that the only thing more subjective than what is fashionable, is what one finds funny.

Britney: Taco Belle

Britney SpearsWearing an athletic tee that says "NO PUSHOVER," and apparently NO BRA, a brown-haired Brit-Brit resisted the siren call of the chalupa at a recent gas station bathroom break.

The toxic fashion disaster singer was spotted making a pit stop in Malibu while a mystery man/friend waited in her idling Mercedes. Britney had time to secure a new crapariffic ammo belt from a local military surplus store.

After checking her Cher-weave, Miss Thing skipped a run for the border. When ya gotta go, ya'll gotta go!

Nicole Richie in Deep

The Commissioner in the Nicole Richie DUI case did not grant the continuance Nicole Richie wanted. Period.
Nicole Richie and Joel Madden
As TMZ first reported, Richie's lawyer asked for a continuance until August 5th, because her expert witness, Dr. Terence McGee, was not available to testify then. Commissioner Steven Lubell was visibly upset and ordered both Nicole's lawyer, Shawn Chapman Holley, and the prosecutor into chambers. When the Commissioner came out, he said he would not rule on the continuance and ordered all parties into court tomorrow morning at 8:30 AM -- that's when the trial is scheduled to begin.

Nicole Richie -- click to launchSeems like Nicole is in a pickle. She flew to Calgary last night with baby daddy Joel Madden, who is performing a gig in the Great White North. Will Nicole bail on the concert and come back to face the Commish?

We'll let you know!

The Next Paris Hilton?

Paris Hilton: Click to watchPrepare to be creeped out -- Paris Hilton's biggest fan is a tiny 4-year-old girl.

Showing off posing skills eerily similar to those of her ex-con/socialite hero, a precocious little gal from Florida waited outside Hilton's home last night for the chance to meet the star of "One Night in Paris" and "Bottoms Up." Don't these kids have bedtimes anymore?!

When Paris emerged, the heiress worked it for the cameras with the little one right by her side -- though it's clear the younger of the two has a lot to learn about handling flashbulbs!

736. Blacks, African-Americans, Coloreds (or whatever the latest favored term) do not need Big Al to point out all these little things for them...the are not children...or are they??? If that is the case we have a racial problem that will continue to seethe until something big will happen...Lord knows what

737. WOW looking at some of these comments I dont know why people think there is racism in the world. Just in case there is some confusion on what we like to be called, personally I like to be called my God given name, as far as my race I am black, african american to me refers to someone from africa who is now in america, colored, is what you children have done that day in daycare or preschool. Oh and by the way I dont believe that the white man brought me here, God put me here with the help of my parents, in fact not all blacks feel that way. I dont believe a white owns this world, maybe he did but not anymore, and he damn sure dont own me. So before you get online posting comments making yourself look even more dumb get your knowledge right, in other words get your mind right.

738. To Judah Rollins and all others that use this forum as a means to express their hatred and prejudice...it's clear that you can't possibly be highly educated, informed, or evolved. Ignorance is the underlying reason for prejudice. I'm thinking that perhaps you guys should go outside of your comfort zone and get to know someone based on your similarities vs. your differences. What you will uncover is there is good and bad in every person, and not just a particular ethnic group... who's casting the first stone?

P.S. Use a dictionary before posting.

739. Fat A$$ Al Sharpton is an opportunist, a liar, and a bully.

What is more, everyone has forgotten that this bigot incited the Crown Hieghts Riots with his antiSemitic rants back in 1991.

It is amazing what you can get away with when you are member of a minority!

740. First n Foremost .. just so you all who read this know n pay attention ... I am a white woman .. not female but woman b/c I am GROWN ... which 80% of adults dont seem to act even if their age says it .. ALL OF YOU who take it upon yourself to judge Al Sharpton really need to stop judging him less you yourself be judged .. YOU ARENT GOD SO STOP JUDGING YOUR FELLOW HUMAN BEING ... maybe he does things to ultimately help out his own agenda .. but everyone is guilty of that and i mean EVERYONE .. and you have to admit the causes are to help eliminate racism, sexism, and prejudism as a whole .. which none of that should even be around b/c God made all of us .. All of you church going hallalujah saying Christians or non Christians .. whatever religion you are should be ashamed of yourself to even judge another or to think someone is lesser value than you b/c God made us all equally regardless of our social, economical, political, or sexual status .. regards of our skin tones (mind you its skin tone i used b/c if you want to be technical black n white arent even colors they are shades .. go back to school if you didnt know this) and everyone needs to stop finding ways to hate others b/c you arent any better than the next .. And for those who are ignorant to say that racism isnt still just a prevalent as before? Well open your eyes b/c it is .. And i am not sticking up for Beyonce b/c i think that her attitude need to be tightened up b/c she comes across as if she is better than everyone especially in regards to the Jennifer Hudson dealings .. BUT you have to give her recognition b/c she is a strong black woman making a name for herself and paving the way for others b/c even tho she had ties to the business .... being in the business isnt all that glitters is gold .~~ By the way .. for all you haters out there .. yes i am pale.. im sicilian, northern italian, russian .. n some other stuff .. basically european decent even though i was born in the States .. altho if people research history they would kno Sicilians are VERY mixed .. but i look like i should be casper the ghost's sister and my daughter she is mixed with my mixes and is half jamaican from her father ... So all you haters and ignorant people out there can kiss my big behind ... Thank you and have a blessed day may God up above or whoever you believe in judge you accordingly .. Dont forget to pay attention to your own business and home and make sure its straight before you butt your nose into others business ~~~!!!!

741. I think this station should not put any statements demeaning about women. Look at Anna Nicole. She was the biggest Ho of them all!!! Beyonce is a beautiful black woman making a lot of money and they are just too many jealous people out there. Get a LIFE of your own!!
Beyonce, please keep making all the money you can!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Al Sharpton is a very smart man that is trying to stop the prejudice attitudes of WHITE individuals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

742. This is to Lindsey/598. Individuals like yourself would make congress reconsider the concept of free speech. However, once a reader overlooks your obviously poor communication skills and common mind set; you actually managed to get the basic point. If you would read more closely what exactly was said without your personal outrage and feelings included you would be able to grasp the entire concept, hopefully in a more mature and open minded way.

743. This is to both Lone Ranger and I've Heard Enough. First, to Lone Ranger; I applaud most of your comments. They were well thought out, clearly expressed and appropriate. I hope the readers appreciate the fundamental point you were attempting to express. However, I would like to refocus you on one primary issue that can be a social windstorm if ignored; the concept of "fairness." Fairness is a God given human right that is expressed through legal theorhetical concepts, that if not monitored carefully can destroy society. And I am referring to fairness for ALL, not one nation of people over another (I denounce the term "race" the only real race is the human race!)

To I've Heard Enough; honestly, your comments were very detailed and personal in nature, however somewhat skewed and conflicting. I would like to simply point out one of your own statements which I believe sums up this entire controversial discussion, which is alright, because whenever the discussion of social issues are present it effects us all very deeply. You stated and I quote, " I wish I had an African American friend to discuss these issues with me, but I don't."

I simply have one question for you, why don't you? Something to think about.

744. I saw them on TV with FOX's Hannity and Colmes the other night shortly before I went to bed.

I think Levine is a "cute" guy.

745. I thought that Harvey was being mean spirited. He just kept on trying to rub salt in the wounds of every African American women. I went back to the original piece and thought it was funny. Yet he ruined what was supposed to be humorous on FOX news when he took it to the level of saying it over and over making the plain point that Al was to stay in his place and that Al could not control his words or that Al would not make him another D Imus he did that at the expense of a lot of peoples feelings and it made him (HL) appear to not have had a good christian upbringing. This is my humble opinion.

747. First of all, it was a "BLACK" awards show. How far off the handle would this clown Al Sharton fly if we started having White Music Awards Shows. Or how about the United Caucasion College Fund or the Miss White America. This PC world he is trying to force upon us is doing nothing to help his cause. I never use the term African Americn to describe a black friend of mine. They would laugh there ass off at me. They are black as I am white. Not a Caucasion American. I would also use the term "ho" to describe a the dress of a white or black woman that was dressed like one. To add to what others have said, appoligize to the wrongly accused "white' Duke lacross players. You owe it to them... Just get the tv cameras out there. We all know you, and your partner J. Jackson would not do anything if cameras wern't involved.

748. Bottom line, and all things equal, all of us owe each other common respect. No one person that makes predjudice comments is in a position to hold other commenters accountable. Rappers certainly lead the guilt parade on degrading language and low class comments on women, but so do many politicians with their double tongue remarks. Why don't our so called "rights leaders" start the "cleaning up" process with the guilty offenders that sit on top of the piles of trash we listen to and watch out there across our country. If we all bottled the same effort we use to be predjudice, and applied that effort to get rid of murderers, rapists, child molesters, etc.... that would be impressive. I suspicion a purple skinned human, or maybe green, no.... lets go with a teal skinned human, suspicion that a teal skinned human would murder, rape and molest differently and even more violently than another colored human. Wake up!--an invisible, colorless human could be dangerous. If we keep wasting time thinking skin color is evil, more innocent victims will be hurt by "evil humans." If I need help, "all colors accepted!"

749. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson always have something to say and for the life of me I have no idea why anyone cares. Haven't both of them had like mistresses, illegitimate children, comitted adultery, and so on and then call themselves Reverend. It is sickening that snyone listens to these wiesels. By the way how about Bill Clinton, what a loser, that fool is going to help this wife be President. Have you seen what they pay that idiot to talk to college kids, what a joke. That money could be spent helping people who need it, not to pay to listen to his crap. Who cares what any of these fools have to say. Their credibility should be zero and worth minus zero.

750. 752, dodger??? Just how ignorant are you? You doon't need to answer... Anyone who reads your comment will know. When I was in the first grade, "I" learned to always capitalize I and the first letter of my name. Did you not get that far in school? Dats, yall, yal, nuthin. Not words. Try to look them up in a dictionary. That's a book that can help you spell. You refered to beyonce (should have been Beyonce, again, that tricky first letter in a name rule) as a Ho, and as a hoe. Hoe, noun - A tool used for weeding. Again, dictionary. TMZ never said Beyonce (notice I used a capital B) was a ho. They said her outfit looked like Robo-ho. "For all i can care yall can kick rocks...." Don't even get me started on the last sentence that I cut and pasted from your comment. I can't believe you even have a computer or internet as far back in the swamps your ass lives. "white people aint no good.. yall aint nuthin but crooks" and think yall rule the world.. Again, cut and pasted from your comment. Check the facts on the population of BLACK PEOPLE vs white people in our prison system. I put black people in all caps for you, just like you did above, just to help you see what a clown you are. I am going to wrap up now even though I, notice the capital I, could go on for hours. I am going to go make a donation to The United Negro College Fund since there is no such thing as The United WHITE College Fund. Remember, the mind is a terrible thing to waste. Never mind, too late.
