Simpsons Roll Out Yellow Carpet In ...

The lesson is -- Homer and a big pink doughnut will carry the day every time. Cowabunga!

Springfield, Vermont will roll out the yellow carpet for the world premiere of "The Simpsons" later this month, beating out 13 other Springfields around the U.S. for the honor -- even though, as a rep for the city admitted to USA Today, it wasn't even invited to be part of the competition, initially. (There are actually 34 Springfields in the U.S.) The Vermont video entry included a real-life "Homer" running through the streets of the town, population 9,500.

Hollywood Zombies -- Click to launchThirteen other Springfields competed, and the one from Illinois -- which actually has a power plant with a guy who runs it that looks a lot like Montgomery Burns -- was so confident it would win that its mayor, Tim Davlin, taunted the others to "eat my shorts" on national TV Monday night. D'oh!

The movie itself opens July 27 nationwide.

19. First, I have to agree, it's about time VT got some recognition. Yeah, it's not SPRINGFIELD Springfield, but in a competition, any Springfield is fair game.

Secondly, it's too bad Jiggy has no appreciation for subtle, or for that matter blatant, irony. But yeah, better that he/she avoids the simpsons in that case and sticks to something simple like sesame street, with it's more straightforward messages.

Looking forward to the movie, but pissed I won't be home for the premiere.

Yet you are doing the exact same thing :-)Does that mean you're stupid too?

South Park is by far a better show.Superior in every way.
It takes 9 months to make one single episode of The Simpson's.They can crank out 4 or 5 episodes a week on South Park, making it a more current and cutting edge show. And unlike The Simpson's,South Park isn't biased against anything. They make fun of everything with no regrets and it is always funny without relying on stupid characters.
I'll take my cartoons with no political bias please.
Good luck with ceding from the Union Vermont.Take that dumb ass show with you.

23. The Simpson's is a great show! I love the different characters. I can't wait for the movie. Anyone who doesn't appreciate it has never taken the time to watch it. BTW, the show makes fun of everything, not just some things.
They obviously are doing something right! It's been on forever. YEA!!

26. Jiggy, no one cares about your retarded opinions. your probably a pathetic low life with nothing better to do than talk trash about a tv show. so go out and buy a life from the kwik-e-mart.

28. I don't see why so many people aare fighting about nothing, its all in good humor and the show should just be enjoyed for how simple minded the characters are, with the exception of a few know-it-alls *cough Lisa cough* I enjoy the show a lot I laugh along all the time because of all the things Homer does, not like anything he does would actually happen in our daily lives. I can't wait for the movie to come out, and please, if you don't like the show don't rant about it here, this is a place where you congratulate VT for winning such an honor of releasing the movie Congrats VT! :-)

29. Yes Jiggy, it's just that The Simpsons have been alot about how things shouldn't be (like Peter Griffin pointed out), tho i dont see the show as a family promoting campaign either, so there's not really a point in saying that Homer is a bad father and therefor the show is worthless.

Also the whole "save the whales" propaganda is awesome.. I laugh soo hard everytime. I guess it's funny cause it's true (talking about the ignorance, like some representative or w/e showing up at the melted glacier and claiming there's no such thing as global warming), sadly enough. I think that's great humor. If you can't discuss today's issues that you care about, and can't give a point of view on them in your own show, then i guess you're truly american (read: ignorant). I think it's great how politics and religion are being questioned, thats the opposite of propaganda in my book.

30. Damn this sucks. I can't believe VT won. Oh well, I'm still a huge Simpsons fan and look foward to seeing the movie. By the way Jiggy don't try to act so innocent. I bet you're not perfect parent material either so where the hell do you get off judging Homer. HE'S NOT EVEN REAL!!!!!!!!! YOUR SO FULL OF YOURSELF! anyway Il should have won, but what are you going to do. GO SIMPSONS!!!!
