Gore's Kid Charged with Pot Possession

TMZ has learned that Vice President Al Gore's son has been formally charged with possession of marijuana and prescription drugs.

24-year-old Al Gore III was arrested on the 4th of July in Orange County, Calif. Cops say he was burning rubber at more than 100 mph in his 2006 Prius. Along with the weed, Gore allegedly had a stash of Adderall, Vicodin, Xanax, and Valium in the car.

The Orange County D.A. charged Gore III with two felony counts of possession of a controlled substance, two misdemeanor counts of possessing a controlled substance without a prescription, one misdemeanor count of possession of marijuana, and a traffic infraction for driving at a speed greater than 100 miles per hour.

He is out on $20,000 bail. If convicted, he could be eligible for a drug diversion program instead of jail.

76. In Cal. if you are convicted of a NON-violent drug offense, you are eligible for rehab. This is called Proposition 36.and you get 3 tries, then go to prison if you do not succeed. It saved my life, and I hope it works for him, too!

77. Why only a 'drug diversion program' and not jail? Here we go again, if you have money and power, you can avoid jail. Paris did her time, why can't 'Gore the 111? I support Al Gore in his environmental causes but---if it were any of us driving 100 miles an hour with all those drugs in our vehicle we would be in jail right now.

80. This is a chronic situation for the Gores. I know ex-classmates of young Als-he was essentially kicked out of his very prestigious high school for the same crap befor dear old Dad ran for the presidency. Imagine the entertainment value if big Al had won. He'd make the Bush twins look like total lightweights.

81. I am sure he will get off with some nice expensive rehab and a cleared record so he can run for President in the future. It pays to have a Green Daddy.

83. "Gore was carrying 140 pills of Vicodin alone, along with "dozens" of the other medications.

Gore was arrested and taken to the Orange County Jail's Intake and Release Center in Santa Ana, where his older sister Sarah bailed him out with $20,000 cash. His father later said that he was "getting treatment."

In all, he was charged with two felony counts of possession of a controlled substance, misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance without a prescription and possession of marijuana, and a speeding infraction, the DA says.

The former vice president's son has a history of encounters with the law.

In August 2000, he was ticketed for going 97 mph in a 55-mph zone in North Carolina, and had his driving privileges suspended.

Two years later, he was cited for DUI in Virginia. He eventually pleaded guilty and was sentenced to one year's probation.

And in December 2003, Gore was arrested for marijuana possession in Maryland after he was pulled over for driving with his headlights off. He was sentenced to drug counseling in that case. "

Personally, yes, I think pot should be legalized. But, the law is what it is, and with 2 felonies and 2 misdemeanors and this history of breaking the law, I certainly think he should get AT LEAST as much jail time as Paris Hilton (who I am no big fan of, btw), who was charged with 1 misdemeanor of violating probation on a misdemeanor DUI. If not, then I hope everyone who wanted Paris to get harsher treatment wishes the same for this privileged son of a millionaire.

85. The look on Gores kids face tells me he thinks he's a tough guy. Drugs will do that to the morons that infest our planet.

87. I’m glad this kid got caught; he makes Paris Hilton look like Mother Teresa. I hate that Al Gore is covering for his kid by referring to this as a private family matter when in fact it is public record – such arrogance! I hope this kid goes to jail instead of country club rehab.

88. The kid probably feels is necessary to take all that cr@p just to put up with his father's hysterical global warming ranting!

89. If he had the weight that I was reading he did then why was he transporting it in his car? If he has a habit does it mean that he needs to take the amount daily that he had with him? Why does a drug addled motorist try to outrun the cops? Was he arrested before on drug charges? Is he a danger to himself and others? Should rehab be the answer for someone like this? Should rehab have come into question before this? Did he do rehab before? If so, did it work? Just what is his rap sheet consist? As far as I am concerned if rehab is all he gets then it is another laughable decision by a CA court, just another judge bowing down to wealth, politics, and power. Justice is not equal, never was, and never will be in this country, and especially in California.
