49. I hate to correct you #42 but I would like to correct your information. The member of Pink Floyd who went mad (as the British say crazy) was the late Syd Barrett (the founding member/orginal guitarist/singer and main songwriter from 1965 to 1968). He was a well known schizophrenic as witnessed when his first sign was when he didn't show any emotions when his dad died when he was 14. After the band had first a UK Top 30 hit with "Arnold Layne" and whilst recording their UK Top 10 hit "See Emily Play", he began showindg signs that he was on a meltdown. His friend David Gilmour (whom joined PF in 1968 as a second guitarist) saw that Syd was deteriorating whilst Syd's colleagues (drummer Nick Mason, bass player Roger Waters and keyboard player Rick Wright) didnt see the changes. Waters, Mason, Wright and Gilmour were drug free apart from alcohol, tobacco and occasional weed toke (Mason, Waters and Gilmour all quit smoking in the mid-1970s). Syd abused LSD and other psychedelic drugs which was not good for a schizophrenic. He skipped performances and refused to mime for US television and did crazy things which now seem tame as opposed to Ms Spears' antics.
The band tried to help him, even after his LSD induced meltdown forced him out of the band, with the members producing his solo records and made sure his family got their royalties from the 1967 singles and Piper at the Gates of Dawn sales.
Syd didn't mentally recuperate and his solo albums sold poorly and he then quit music for good in 1972 and spent the last 34 years of his life as a recluse.
Britney is making Syd's demise look like a cartoon in comparison. Britney will wind up dead. Also, her lip synched "shows" in clubs was the coward way to come back from a setback. Whitesnake's first perormance after David Coverdale had throat surgery to save his career was in front of 90,000 people at The Cotton Bowl in Dallas, TX. Britney I see will die young.
