Gore Banks Green from Green

Green giant Al Gore makes a pretty penny off of his environmental speaking engagements. The former veep raked in around $100,000 for a recent 75-minute speaking engagement at the University of California, San Diego, reports thesmokinggun.com by way of the L.A. Times.

What did the Big Greenie require during his stay? Only first-class air travel for himself and one companion; $1,000 per day for incidental expenses; security guards; and an environmentally-conscious vehicle for all road travel. The prima donna vice president also demanded that there be no press, video or audio taping of his appearance, and that he have full approval over all banners, logos, and communications materials for the event.

226. ARROGANT the single word that sums up Al Gore’s demeanor. I don’t like Gore’s narrow-minded, holier than thou, and hypocritical way of thinking.

230. REALLY AND TRULY, you guys who say Gore claimed to have invented the Internet need to get your facts straight. He never said that. Never. Al Franken covers that in his book Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them. (But I know, you guys will just disparage Al Franken now. Seriously, a little research will confirm that Gore never made the Internet claim.)

231. NOW, for those crying "hypocrisy" -- get real. The list of "perks" he asked for wasn't much at all. And you don't know what the speaking fee is being used for.
Shame on TMZ for this ridiculous smear job. Brainless narcissists don't need another excuse to keep driving their SUVs.

232. BECAUSE I know some of you are too darn lazy to check it out for themselves, here's what Gore actually said about his role in the emergence of the Internet:
"During my service in the United States Congress I took the initiative in creating the internet. I took the initiative in moving forward a whole range of initiatives that have proven to be important to our country's economic growth and environmental protection, improvements in our educational system."
You can find the quote from a 1999 CNN interview at Wikipedia. Nothing about "inventing" the Net.

233. Anyone can see that this Rat is capitalizing on another one of America's Hair Brained Ideas that will soon pass like a fart in the wind, leaving this guy laughing his way to the bank. "Saving the Environment" is about as logically possible as "Stopping World Hunger".

234. Yeah, Mr./Ms. Sense, just go on ignoring the overwhelming scientific evidence about global warming, drive a Hummer or covet other people's, and don't worry yourself about the future. Smart.

235. It's very interested to read this blog and see the various opinions and sentiments. Some you seem to have put some thought into it instead of ranting. I like Al Gore and I like Michael Moore. If they are wrong, they are wrong - we have all been lied to before and have been subjected to propaganda so the government can keep all of its sheep (us) herded. You don't have to look far past the end of your nose to suspect global warming, so I think Al and his brand of scientist's are most likely correct. I work in the health care industry, and don't have to look far to see the unfair policies and practices used by many of the major insurance providers when a claim is submitted - and refused. For some, the cost of obtaining health insurance is formidable, but even with it lifesaving procedures are denied.

I think the Earth and its Maker are pretty sick of the parasites and sex idolators we have become. If the Mayan's are right, it will all be over on December 12, 2012. Do some research on that. I'm just tending to my own backyard for now, and keeping my blood pressure low and my health intact by not getting into a rage over something I can't do much about.

236. WonderWoman, beyond a "brand" or (as I suspect you meant) "band" of scientists, what we're talking about here is virtual unanimity. For the past several years, every article on the topic in peer-reviewed scientific journals has agreed that global warming is human-made. There are almost no reputable scientists at all who think recent climate change hasn't been driven by human factors.
BTW, nice to see some people aren't just denying denying denying to avoid uncomfortable conclusions.

Posted at 11:40AM on Jul 23rd 2007 by Honestly

237. What annoys me about this whole global warming scare is how activists and liberal Hollywood go after America and leave the big polluters like China and India alone. America has gotten much cleaner over the last fifty years (if you don't believe me then look it up) but these other countries are filthy. Global warming is a scam and a way to hurt America.

Posted at 11:56AM on Jul 23rd 2007 by Jamie

238. Again, Jamie, it has to be pointed out that the scientific evidence is overwhelming that anthropogenic climate change is not "a scam." I hope you're not kidding yourself into thinking we can all just go on driving SUVs and (like Travolta) flying private jets.

Posted at 12:01PM on Jul 23rd 2007 by Honestly

239. Yes, as we all know, only a poor person can speak on environmental issues, and nobody who campaigns about the climate crisis should ever have any control over his own speaking engagements.

Oh, no, wait, that doesn't make any sense at all, does it?

Posted at 12:55PM on Jul 23rd 2007 by Chet Scoville

240. To Honestly:

Bravo! You are right on target. Actually, many members of the science community were predicting this years ago. Although, Jamie has one good point in that alleviating climate change due to a waste/pollutants will take a global effort. And Asia and India are among the top two major contributors.
