Gore Banks Green from Green

Green giant Al Gore makes a pretty penny off of his environmental speaking engagements. The former veep raked in around $100,000 for a recent 75-minute speaking engagement at the University of California, San Diego, reports thesmokinggun.com by way of the L.A. Times.

What did the Big Greenie require during his stay? Only first-class air travel for himself and one companion; $1,000 per day for incidental expenses; security guards; and an environmentally-conscious vehicle for all road travel. The prima donna vice president also demanded that there be no press, video or audio taping of his appearance, and that he have full approval over all banners, logos, and communications materials for the event.

16. He's a limosine liberal. As long as he can take his limos and jets, to hell with everyone else and the environment. He can't walk the walk. I'd have some respect for him if he at least made an attempt. I don't care what he makes for appearances, endorsements etc. Just practice what you preach!

17. That bill isn't too much, I don't know what people are complaining about. He wants first class travel for he and one other. He didn't ask for a private jet. He asked for an environmentally conscious car, as he should. It'd be a bad example if he weren't in one. Security guards? He is the former VP, and I am pretty sure there are still dangers out there for him as a public and political figure. I do think he needs them. Plus there is food and all that other random stuff.

UCSD students didn't even have to pay a dime to see him. The speaking engagement was free to all students and staff. It was smart NOT to have public press about it, because the engagement quickly ran out of tickets. I know, I tried to go myself... and I go to SDSU. I had to find out from a UCSD student that this was going on.

TMZ, why don't you focus on how much it is to get Sanjaya to come do a measly performance? Now he's the prima donna. He can't even really sing.

100,000 is not a lot for a huge figure like Al Gore, and he was there for 75 minutes.

20. Just because others do it, doesn't make it right for Gore to feed at the table too. This whole speaking engagement scam is a joke. Nobody remembers what was said. People pay just to see a so-called celeb. They all need therapy.

22. What a bunch of ignorant hicks you all are. First, he's always had money - his family was very wealthy. Second, he's been interested and passionate about global warming since he was in college. Finally, he was the Vice President of the United States, of course he's going to be well compensated for a speech of any length.

23. all of you may have a point. wether he is doing this for the money or the environment, one thing is for sure , it made alot of us aware of how badly we are treating our planet, and what little we can do to help make it better.
when you pass under a tree be greatfull that is still there.

25. So you kiss Paris Hilton's ass and jam her down our throats every frickin' day and when she gets paid that much, or more to do nothing except show up somewhere, you act like it's an impressive thing. I would say at least Gore contributes more to the world than spreading herpes like Paris does.

29. My brother in law retired from the Secret Service three years ago, and this is NOTHING compared to what politicians usually want-and get-paid by our tax dollars. Al is certainly not perfect, but this is very mild compared to the rest of government. Democrat or Republican. I don't know if I believe in global warming or not, but what IS the harm in using a little less energy, not using so much big oil, and not polluting as much? Even if there's no such thing as global warming, we are running out of space for landfills, and are being buried in our own garbage here in America. Fixing that problem would cost alot more than just being a little easier on the environment.
