Gore Banks Green from Green

Green giant Al Gore makes a pretty penny off of his environmental speaking engagements. The former veep raked in around $100,000 for a recent 75-minute speaking engagement at the University of California, San Diego, reports thesmokinggun.com by way of the L.A. Times.

What did the Big Greenie require during his stay? Only first-class air travel for himself and one companion; $1,000 per day for incidental expenses; security guards; and an environmentally-conscious vehicle for all road travel. The prima donna vice president also demanded that there be no press, video or audio taping of his appearance, and that he have full approval over all banners, logos, and communications materials for the event.

31. Fibiker,

Learn how to spell. You're on a global network with real, live adults; no one thinks you're cute. Uneducated, yes, but not cute.

And if you'd bother to check into supply and demand (you know, our economic system), you'd know that Gore is worth exactly what someone is willing to pay for him.

And your great contribution to society would be . . . ?

32. He doesn't send innocent americans over to be killed? Under Clintons admin.. they let them pick us off like targets and didn't do a damn thing but say.. now now.. you don't do that okay..? We are too busy with our liberal rights here and want to spend our money on all kinds of liberal lusts.. Now we are fighting the war for reason and sanity of freedoms to worship and live for the whole earth including those mixed up in a frenzy religion of dictatorship and censorship.. Yes, it is about religion and censorship. Do you want to be led by cruel dictators and their freak and crazy minion followers again? And I ain't talking about Tom. The whole thing he is for is money and publicity and pay back for losing the presidency., and taking away all our rights.. forcing us to live like cavemen again and under a universal nanny statehood.

33. With any luck, Al and his plane will crash into the side of a mountain, but I hate to see that happen to the crew of the plane. There always have been and always will be climatic fluctuations on the planet. Anybody remember a little party called the ICE AGE? I guess that's because of cave man cooking fires, huh? What about those students who went without scholarships, just so that Al Pal could receive his cash? Buying each persona copy of his book would have been a lot cheaper and they could have built a fire with them to save on the heating bill.

37. Actually, what he requested is about standard for the top, most in demand speakers.

The only major difference is his request for the "green" car, instead of the usual luxury limo.

38. I am glad that someone is trying to make a difference in the environment, but he is talking to all the wrong people. Just because we prefer SUVs instead of little dinky cars....there is a reason for that....we have families and each member of our family has things. Therefore, not only do we need leg room and enough room to be comfortable; but we also need room for all other things that our family members need. Personally, I believe that Al Gore should be trying to make a change in all the factories that desperse more chemicals and smoke into the atmosphere in one hour than a whole fleet of SUVs. I agree that us making changes in our lifestyles will make a difference too, but there are bigger things in our world that do way more damage than an army of families. I would like to see changes in our companies and corporations. I think they could set a great example for their consumers. Also, if the companies and corporations made more environmentally friendly products, then their customers that use their brands will at the least try the product. It gives everyone something to think about on it.

Now, I do have to say that I do not think that Al Gore should be using his cruesade against the use of unfriendly products and actions that are not friendly to the environment. Al Gore needs to get his priorities straight. AMRussell

39. Hey, Eye (#24), WHAT do you mean the students don't pay for it? Where do you think activity fees and tuition come from? Well, on second thought, you're probably right. They get those from grants and scholarships (heaven forbid they pay them themselves) which are collected from our tax dollars, so WE the PEOPLE pay for that twit, and others, to flay around the country. As far as how much he makes, I say you are worth whatever you can get, just like pro sports. The difference is, TAX DOLLARS are paying for this jerk in this instance.

40. So? He used to be vice president of the US. If you make it to that level and can't ask for a pretty penny to speak and all the perks that go with it...what the hell is this country for anyway? i'm shocked by the comments I read here...as if because he makes a lot of money, that some how means that the polar ice caps aren't melting. this country is supposed to be the land of dreams, so why is it when someone makes those dreams come true, sites and papers like TMZ try to create a negative story about it. I'm usually a huge TMZ fan, but gotta admit...those story is trash.

43. This story is just simple dumpster diving, meant to stir up negative feelings towards others. Julius Caesar said in his day: "There is no integrity to be found in the Roman Senate". That is so very true today. The political leaders of our country, much as they did in the days of the Roman empire, have fattened themselves at the public trough, and continue to do so once they leave office. The reality is that each of us has choices that we can make during our every day lives to impact the world around us in tangible ways, including the envoronment. So, drive that green car, and turn off the lights when you don't need them. Not only will you be helping yourself out financially, you will help my air to be just a fractional bit cleaner.

44. I agree that Gore is bringing the subject of global warming to light, but he seems too hypocritical to me. The only public person/politician who practises what he preaches is Ralph Nader. He is one Honest Abe, and that's not just opinion, it's fact.
He doesn't even OWN a car, he gets around on a moped! And he doesn't live in a big giant resource eating mansion either.
Ralph Nader for president!!!!

Most of this is usual for well-known speakers!
