152. Having experience the wrath of the Lee County Sheriff's Department, I can say she is lucky she didn't get tazed. They don't mess around. If she said she got stripped naked and hosed down in her cell for asking for a glass of water, I wouldn't doubt her story nor be surprised that the Lee Sheriff's Dept. was behind it. They have nothing better to do than degrade women detainees and subject them to all sorts of strange, perverse forms of domination thinly veiled as a necessary measures of control. Unfortunately with her wrap sheet, she has no chance of legitimately fighting any abuse claims---and they know it.

153. Here's the problem....she had a hit record, blew it by getting stoned or drunk or both. lost her money and is still in denial of her dependency on drugs and/or alcohol. Who is suffering? The child and anyone who is around her. Did the popo give her orders? You bet they did. Did she follow those orders? You bet she DIDN'T. Will she do it again? Oh yeah. She hasn't hit rock bottom yet.

154. I agree, she has not hit rock bottom yet. However, it is fast approaching. Lets have some understanding for the people she has hurt. Not just her Mom, but the people she owes money to. The people she wrote bad checks to. The people she told lies about. Mindy is self serving and does not think twice about doing whatever to whomever if it will serve her needs. Soon, people will no what this story is about. Its not just about Mindy, it is just another attempt of her to do injustice to other people. Just another episode in the "saga of Mindy". My prediction is she is @ the end of her rope. Maybe she will get what she deserves when she is sentenced on September 7th for her drug conviction.

Don't discourage people from getting sober. You need treatment. I have no clue what is wrong with you, but you are clearly a misanthrope (you can look that up, because I am pretty sure your vocabulary does not run to that word).

I am actually writing a paper on blogs like this. You will be a prime example of people who need to GET A LIFE. And even the positive posters should avoid blogs like this (in my humble opinion, as the sickness of the whole process is clearly apparent. People need to be involved with their own families and friends, not people in internet outer space. That is actually the thesis of my article....everyone certainly is entitled to his or her own opinion.

Your bitterness seems to indicate (and I am interviewing psychologists) that your anger and inadequacy attracks you to these sites. You are, from an uninformed point of view, a sicko! Get help.

Watch for my article. You will be quoted.

p.s. By the way, I am not a "gentleman" who has spent 25 years at AA meetings. I got sober, moved on, remain available to help people who are getting sober (how dare you denigrate someone who has worked hard for 13 days while criticizing someone for being a drunk....as for those who think "Mindy" may just have had a "bad night,".....you are probably have a problem also and are in denial). I am a female who has recently retired from 34 productive years of teaching high school English. I am working p.t .for a major metropolitan newspaper. I have a family and an active life. I certainly do not sit around at AA because I enjoy listening to people's problems, although I remain ready to help people the way I was helped. I have a master's degree and am working for a doctorate. You negative posters are interesting as case studies. I will pray for you. The more ignorant the opinions, the more terrible the grammar, spelling and punctuation. I am actually doing a correlation between obvious lack of education and prejudice. I am refraining from judgment in my article until I have expert views and reactions to the posts. I think, though, that this kind of posting is a major indicator of the general unhealthiness of American culture. Just thought I would let you know what I was doing here.

Too bad you do not write letters to the editor of your local newspaper and have the guts to sign your name.

First of all I never discourage anyone from getting sober!
Second in your first paragraph you call me a misanthrope and the only reason you give is that you think I need treatment. For what? Well you say you dont have a clue. Well lets examine that claim. In your post you call me angry, bitter, inadequit, and a sicko. You call my vocabulary skills into question, you say I am in denial, I am a negitive poster, I have ignorant opinions, terrible grammer,spelling and punctuations and an obvious lack of education and I'm prejudice too! Oh and I don't have any guts! Have you ever met me? No? Have you ever spoken to me? No? Have you ever read anything written by me before today? No? Has anyone ever told you anything about me,about anything? No? uumm...Well I know you won't agree with me but I do believe you fit the discription of a misanthrope more than I. 4th paragraph you say to watch for your article and that I will be quoted. Ok I will, but where to look? Do I subscribe to every newspaper and mag in hopes of maybe running into the mysterious article written by the mysterious Quarter century recovering alcoholic/addict? I hope I do find it and I hope I am quoted(correctly).But I know that just as is your post, you will distort facts to meet your adgenda that everyone with a problem go to AA or NA.

5th paragraph and this is where it gets interesting! First of all when did I call you a Gentleman? By your writings alone I could tell right off that you were a woman. Most good writers will check and recheck their facts before publishing, you do not fall into this catagory. If you would go to Gayla's post # 137 you will find that it was she who said you were a gentleman. It is OK I forgive you this time.
I did not denigrate that girl for being 13 days sober..I only said do not give advice to someone else on how to run their life, when she has only 13 days living right. she is in the beginning stages she has no right to tell others what to do. Get a year or two without Failling then maybe she could offer some advice.
You said you were a english teacher for 34 years then you should be pretty good at it by now--check out your 2nd sentence(the very long one). Your grammer is not up to snuff. You are held up to a higher standard because you profess to being a teacher and your studing for your doctorate...congrats! Dont look down on us that have our own opinions and not those that others would like us to conforn too. Our own opinions, thoughts, views and ideas are ours and are free in this country! This is not the USSR or China yet!

Your last paragraph says that i do not write to the editors of newspapers. Thats right i dont. They only print what their told to print or what they want to print. But here "WE THE PEOPLE" can and do print what we want because we can! Its something called freedom of the press and freedom of speech! Look it up.

I just thought of something! You said you were a teacher for 34 years?
And you have been in AA and NA for 25 years?

No where does it say she was high so why do you assume she needs AA? or NA? it say she was not convicted of the dui ! do not convict her unfairly! she does deserve what ever she gets for hitting her mom,but she's not being charged with that! only disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.so where does AA come into play? Everyone knows how parents are..they know the right buttons to push to make you look crazy and them comming out smelling like a rose.

162. Boo hoo! She's not at fault, it's the drugs and alchohol. Who decided to use drugs and alchohol in the first place? She was in an abusive relationship! Who decided to stay in the relationship after the first sign of violence? The cops abused her! Who got drunk,beat up her Mom and then resisted arrest? You bleeding hearts make me want to puke. I'm sick of you people making excuses for all these idiots that have more money and social advantages than most of the people in the country. Take some responsibility for your own actions--all of you, not just celebrities-- and exercise some self control. Cancer is a disease, alcoholism is an addiction caused by repeated use of alcohol, not a disease you get through no fault of your own. Don't drink (use drugs, etc.) and you will never be dependent on it. It is as simple as that. Theses people get no sympathy from me for their lack of intelligence and will power. Throw her, Lindsay, and all the rest of the criminal celebs in a cell and give them some time to reflect on the choices that put them there.

163. Craig and Quarter, hehe, I really enjoyed your exchange. Priceless. Craig, you really are quite perceptive, and ooh, all without the benefit of a PhD.

Quarter, dear, I don't know if you are fibbing to us, but even if everything that you say is true, please remember that it is possible to attain a doctorate but still remain intellectually bankrupt. Just what this country needs - another liberal feminist ditz with a doctorate (yes, dear, it shows). Please stay in education if you must and out of politics.

To get to the point, I am somewhat dismayed by opinions on both sides of the divide. The uncompassionate posters, however accurate the citation of the facts of the case or of McCready's personal history, really don't offer much hope to anyone for positive change.

On the other hand, the "bleeding hearts" offer a false compassion: it's not her fault; her addiction is a "disease", the police are abusive, the boyfriend was a cad, her mom is "crazy", even capitalism turns out to be a villian! I am surprised that George W. Bush has not yet been implicated in this mess.

One question: Whatever became of Shame?

After being barraged by the very public antics of Paris, Lindsay, Paula, Britney, Anna Nicole, Mindy, etc., etc. I believe the time has come to re-introduce a healthy dose of shame back into our society to reign in this sort of egregious behaviour - especially when the perp is the mother of a small child!

I condone neither callous derision nor unwarranted support for Mindy McCready. Yes, she comes from a dysfunctional family and carries all the baggage that goes along with that. True, she bears the primary responsibility for sabotaging her own career, relationships, family, etc. - she owns that one.

What Mindy needs to understand is how powerless she is to change her wretched life and how great God is to change the pit of her soul - but only SHE can make that choice. AA? Psychological counseling? Drug rehab? Domestic violence support groups? Friends and family? They can help her, but they cannot want a successful life on behalf of Mindy. She has to want it for herself.

I hope that she changes, then her situation will improve, but that can only happen by the grace of God. Short of that, she will only kick herself to the curb. My heart goes out to her mother and baby.
