Romney on Osama Sign: "Lighten Up"

Confronted at a town hall meeting in New Hampshire on Sunday about the now infamous picture of him with a sign that read, "No to Obama, Osama and Chelsea's Moma," Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney had a simple response: "Lighten up." Open mouth, insert foot!

The photo, which first appeared on TMZ, sparked a reader of BuckeyeStateBlog.com to ask, "How can you compare any American to Osama bin Laden?" Romney danced around the question with answers like, "I don't spend all the time looking at the signs and the t-shirts and the buttons." LDS should stand for "Look at the Damn Sign!"

When pressed further, Romney said, "Just lighten up." A true statesman.

16. Liberal media indeed.
If Clinton, Obama or Edwards held up a sign saying "Romney, Thompson and Hitler", it would be the lead news story on Fox; the NYPost would have the picture on their front page; the Wall Street Journal would say it disqualifies them from becoming president, Drudge would have screaming headlines for a week.

But as usual, IOKIYAAR (It's OK if you're a Republican).

17. I hope the younger generations reading these posts will never join a party and sound as old and outdated as most of you do over nothing. I hope they stay independent and make their candidate earn their vote not just hand it over like sheep. Using the guys religion against him is also stupid we should use all religions against everyone then.
Blue/Red your childish and easy to munipulate.
Your limited by your own choice, how intelligent is that neanderthals.

19. When did the American people become so sensitive that they forget how to have a little humor? Mitt was not the one making the comparison. He did nothing wrong. People jumping all over his back forget that Obamas middle name is Hussein and that the woman was making a JOKE. How come you people didn't freak out when Bush was compared to Hitler? Talk about a double standard. Lighten up people. Not everything has to be a racist remark these days.

21. What an idiot. I thought he'd be a good candidate for the GOP. McCain is gone, Giuliani is on the way out, and I think this is going to come back to bite Romney. Not just the picture, but the way he handled the situation.

22. The Dems have $100 million more in the bank than the Repubs. The Repubs are only going through the motions. Clinton will be the next President.

Mitt is a closet homosexual. He'll come out after the campaign. Mitt and his wife will ask the Lord for forgiviness. And the Repub sheep will swollow it.

26. TMZ needs to stay out of politics. We realize that 95% of the people they photograph are Dems but some of us like our entertainment without politics entered into it. It's interesting that we don't see any Dems getting hammered on but for some reason Mitt is an ok target because he's republican and of a religion many people don't understand. When will we poke fun at Hillary for her fake accent down south, trotting to church when it suits her, and where is NOW to protest against a woman who obviously doesn't care about the womens movement with her husband dropping his pants for any willing woman (he's not too choosy since he went for Monica) and she doesn't leave him or do anything about it?

Lay off the politics Harvey.

29. the only way they can win is to lie and call people names! and THAT is who you would choose to represent us and get our country back on track?!?!!?!? they'll drive this country into the ground!

"let's impeach those two guys!"

30. Unfortunatly, people like "Middle America" and most of the other Pro-Repub clueless lot that post here, still believe it when Rush Limbaugh and O'Reilly keep saying it's a Liberal Media. If that's the case, why is that they even have jobs, much less one in which they make more money that ALL of their followers will ever see in their lifetime.

Any why is it that most "Liberal Media" in America is owned by a right-wing Australian and no one seems to have a problem with that? I guess we don't have problems outsourcing our news as long as it's to a rich, old white man, talk about Republicans having a daddy complex.

But it's okay, I'm sure most of you will vote for Romney because of his looks, and Thompson because you think he'll recapture the "magic" of Ronald Reagan. I thought right-wingers had a problem with Hollywood trying to get into politics, oh right, I forgot your slogan "It's okay if you're a republican."
