Romney on Osama Sign: "Lighten Up"

Confronted at a town hall meeting in New Hampshire on Sunday about the now infamous picture of him with a sign that read, "No to Obama, Osama and Chelsea's Moma," Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney had a simple response: "Lighten up." Open mouth, insert foot!

The photo, which first appeared on TMZ, sparked a reader of BuckeyeStateBlog.com to ask, "How can you compare any American to Osama bin Laden?" Romney danced around the question with answers like, "I don't spend all the time looking at the signs and the t-shirts and the buttons." LDS should stand for "Look at the Damn Sign!"

When pressed further, Romney said, "Just lighten up." A true statesman.

46. I still like Mitt Romney. If the rest of you want your taxes raised and your hospital waiting times to be extended due to socialized health care, then you can vote for Hillary or Obama.

47. What this REALLY boils down to is that the democrats can't really find anything wrong with Mitt so they are grasping at any straw they can find, no matter how insignificant the straw is.

48. No surprise here-TMZ automatically taking the lefty liberal's side-no matter the facts or the issue.

49. I agree that TMZ should stick to the one thing that they are good at -- reporting celeb gossip and not pretending to understand politics.

However, like I stated earlier...what is it about that picture that has people so heated? That he is standing next to a woman who made the sign? Last time I checked, he didn't get out his markers and poster board and make that poster. Its a joke... there is nothing to be offended by in that poster.

And to say that Mitt hasn't done anything for MA -- then I hope you take a step back and look at Hillary's career and realize that she has done jack-you-know-what for the state of NY.

And to think that the media isn't liberal -- give me a break people. All you hear about is how the Ben Afflecks, and Barbara Streistands and George Clooney's of the world complain about the Republicans....and just because they can make a few mil by reading lines off a piece of paperre, doesn't mean that their capable of running a country or trying to inflatrate the American people with their thoughts.. All you hear is negative press about everything that Bush says, does, think, etc. The man can't even whip his butt witout being criticized for it. Believe it or not people, there are positive things going on in Iraq, and there are people that support it. Don't believe everything that your daily news channel tells you.

50. Right-wingers are anti-peace. They thirst for war, but won't make a sacrifice, save the couple of dollars spent for a yellow ribbon magnet made in China.

51. I love Romney! Can you imagine the flack he gets for his religion? The sign is nothing in comparison. Lighten up is a message the whole US could use concerning politics. And for god sakes, Hillary is much worse than Osama!

52. The guy asking for an apology is a democrat and a total victim. I'm a Fred supporter myself but appreciate Romney showing some backbone; he had NOTHING to apologize for.

53. The Same way Mitt brushed this off as a joke in front of people....he will do the same when a war breaks out over here (IF he was President). He would laugh and brush off every major problem that he didn't and did cause. This shows us right here how much he cares for the American people.

From what I read on the other post out there on the Internet and on TMZ...and Magazines...this Mitt character has just gave B. Obama more votes. Nobody wants Hillary, and this idiot (Mitt) was done before he even got started. Now Mitt is finished. There is NO point in him traveling anymore. No...actually he needs to travel, so people can see just how much they DO NOT need to vote for anymore inconsiderate adolescents to put into office again. Bush 1 time around was enough....the 2nd time has been Hell on everyone.

I'm sure Obama thanks you for your idiot & moron move here Mitt. B. Obama will surely apreciate the new voters.

54. After reading about his cruelty to animals, I would never vote for this idiot. He and his wife should learn how to treat animals before they do anything else. LOSERS.

Posted at 9:05PM on Jul 23rd 2007 by Mitt's a Twit

55. He mistreats animals too. What the hell else does this guy do wrong? Everytime I read soemthing about him, someone is stating how he has something else BAD in his past, along with his present.

What a dummy, just what the American people need...another one. These types of men in office is going to do nothing but bring literal war on our own turf. And these are also the kinds of heartless idiots that will want to laugh that off too.

We have to remember that they have shelter...a safe haven if something goes wrong. The American people have nothing so we will all die while they are still thinking it is a joke in the end. Just like they are laughing off this comment, and acting as if 9/11 and Bin L...is a joke. People died and this not a situation where people should say lighten up.

Bin L. should NOT be compared to any of the American people. I don't care how much they love or hate them. No one here should be compared to Bin L. in any way, shape, or form.

57. mick,

58. typical Republican! Offend Americans - smirk at them while they complain about the offense - then trivialize them by telling them to calm down. What a pig!

Posted at 11:10PM on Jul 23rd 2007 by kellygrrrl

59. Brett R., your comment that we Americans all need to lighten up regarding politics is completely ignorant and dangerous. At what point shall we sit up and pay attention and demand that our employees (elected officials) do their job? At what point will you feel concerned? Perhaps when your draft letter arrives.

60. Amen #61. Mitt Romney has developed this pattern of flip flopping on issues. I just don't trust this man.
