Rev. Al Goes to Bat for Bitches

Al SharptonRev. Al Sharpton is going to the dogs ... and by dogs, of course, we mean bitches.

Sharpton has turned his attention from celebrity news websites and is lending his voice to a crusade against ... dogfighting? Sharpton and hip-hop honcho Russell Simmons teamed up with PETA to send an open letter to all corporate sponsors of alleged dog fight creep Michael Vick, as well as to the Commissioner of the NFL. PETA picketed New York's Niketown store today.

In their letter, Sharpton and Simmons proclaim, "Hurting animals for human pleasure or gain is despicable ... Our battle must extend to those innocent animals who literally have no voice or choice."

Oh, really, Al? The good Rev was nowhere to be seen last summer, when Beyonce Knowles -- whom he strenuously defended when we called her outfit "roboho" -- was exposed by a PETA ambush for using the fur of smaller "innocent animals" in her fashion line. The confrontation during a lunch at Nobu, was caught on video and obtained exclusively by TMZ.

Rev. Al got right back to us when we asked for comment, pointing out that he joined PETA last year in protesting chicken industry practices: "Whether I or a person agree or disagree on a social issue, it does not entitle that
person or their attire to be referred to in a misogynistic manner."

61. Good for Al and Russell. Their support for animals' welfare is a consistent extension of their support for disenfranchised minorities. I used to consider Al an opportunistic showboater, but his statement shows credibility. Definitely gained some respect here.

62. I don't support him much in the world of politics, but man, when it comes to stuff like this, he's got my full support. Someone like me can only donate to the cause. But Al can stand in front of television cameras and spread a message against animal cruelty internationally. I believe that his heart truly is in the right place here, and not just for popularity.

65. Frankly, it doesn't matter to me what motivates Sharpton. The fact that he's brought attention to the horror that is dogfighting is all that matters. At least he condemned it - everyone with a brain should condemn it! It's brutality and torture and we need more people standing up for the animals, who, as Russell Simmons said, "Have No Voice, No Choice."

To EVERYONE who has expressed their outrage, revulsion, and disgust, Thank You.

67. I hate Beyonce, J Lo and any other evil tramp that wears fur - I hope one day they will face the treatment the animals they care nothing about feel, I despise them.

68. Haircheck: No you don't love animals, if you did you'd understand the need for organizations like PETA and The Humane Society. Just because a person supports laws banning the torture of animals doesn't have a thing to do with humans who are suffering. The two aren't mutually exclusive. I thought everyone knew that, but I guess you didn't get the memo.

mannOwar777- if you're going to post an anti-PETA link at least be honest about who the people are behind the site. They are corporations who have a financial stake in the elimination of PETA. Unfortunately for them they are failing miserably as PETA's membership and clout gets gets bigger and bigger each year.

The Michael Vicks of the world will be punished for their crimes, and severely.

Good for you Al!!!

70. one more thing manOwar is lying about:

PETA is NOT supported by tax dollars, it is solely funded thru donations.

71. Beyonce and JLo are under the mistaken impression that they look like something other than cheap whores when they wear those God-awful fur coats.

72. Thank you Al Sharpton for standing tall in protecting helpless animals and in condemning the heinous crimes committed by Vick, in dog fighting and in the mindless torture and killing of dogs. There is no excuse for these criminal,
brutal and heartlless activities. It is pure evil to have done what Vick and his constituents did to these helpless creatures for YEARS, forcing them to fight, using Golden Retrievers and other pets to train these dogs to kill, and killing the dogs who were refused to kill. Multitudes of us appreciate your efforts in behalf of these dogs, and your contacts with the sponsors and with the NFL. to prevent Vick from playing on the team and from being a spokesman for sponsors. I do not want my children using a person like Vick as an example, and I do not want them to think that someone can commit crimes, or that they can commit such heinous crimes against helpless animals, and escape punishment. It is a shame that so many young people will torture and abuse the helpless because of what Vick has done. They also need to know that people have to take the responsibility for their own actions.

Dog fighting is a felony conviction in all states but two. In this state it is also a felony conviction to be a spectator of such fights. This brutality toward animals has to stop. Attacks by these dogs upon people is directly the fault of people who trained them to attack and who chained them.
I know many people who have these dogs as personal family pets, and they are the sweetest dogs you could know. It is people like Vick who have given these dogs a bad name.

A country is judged by the way it treats its animals. God said, "Inasmuch as ye have done this to the least of these, ye have done it also unto me".
