Rebecca Schaeffer's Killer Stabbed

Killer Robert John Bardo, who was convicted of stalking and killing actress Rebecca Schaeffer in 1989, was stabbed by another inmate yesterday. Bardo was stabbed 11 times while he and fellow inmates were walking to breakfast in the prison yard, according to Mule Creek State Prison officials. He survived the attack.

Schaeffer was the star of the 1980s sitcom "My Sister Sam." Bardo was obsessed with Schaeffer and stalked her for several months. He eventually tracked her down with the help of a private detective, and shot her to death when she answered the door of her L.A. home. She was 21.

The suspect identified as responsible for stabbing Bardo is serving an 82-years-to-life sentence for second-degree murder. Bardo was 19 when he stalked and killed Schaeffer. He is serving life without parole. The case led to the classification of stalking as a felony in California.

to whomever suggested we "cut the appeals process down" to save money on death row inmates: so you want the death penalty, AND no appeals process? Are you insane? God forbid you ever get falsely accused, or find yourself in front of a judge and jury who are unduly harsh and sentence you to death for something others have been given different sentences for.

And whomever said it was about revenge: why is your revenge justified, but someone else's isn't? What if a murderer killed their victim because they were so enraged, felt so wronged, and felt as though justice had not been carried out? We'd still sentence them to death for that, thereby telling them that their response was illegal and wrong. So, OUR desire for revenge is ok, but the murderers isn't? If it's so "natural" and "a matter of justice" to want to kill people in revenge, then you can't punish anyone for doing the same. Moreover, you certainly can't kill someone to say killing someone out of spite was wrong.

I relate completely with your post.
It was also a scary time for many celebs and the public alike finding out anyone could get address's from the DMV.
A mute issue now days of course but then it had an impact and privacy laws were changed because of her death.
Unlike Lohan, Rebecca didn't cause her own demise.
She was a fine actress who was very excited about her life and grateful for her blessing's.

At the time of her murder anyone could go to the DMV and say they had an accident and get the persons address. Her murder caused the state of California to change this procedure. If that policy was not in place, maybe her life would have been saved. She also had a restraining order or him. Restraining orders don't work and the police department really needs to re-evaluate how they process and impliment them. Too many women are murdered that have restraining orders against someone. Case in New York recently when a young woman was being stalked after the trail about they gay raping her was dismissed. A restraining order was issued and he still murdered her for testifying against him.

MS. RITA TO OUR COURT SYSTEM

RESTRAINING ORDERS NEED TO BE INFORCED IN A DIFFERENT WAY. IF A RESTRAING ORDER IS ISSUED AND THAT PERSON SHOULD GO TO JAIL FOR 3 YEARS AND THEN THE 3 YEARS TO BE RESTRAINED

CHILD MOLESTING NEED TO BE INFORCED IN A DIFFERENT WAY...LONGER PENALITES 10 TO 15 YEARS IF CONVICED.

It is possible to reluctantly support the death penalty and argue for its justification.

But the blood-thirsty, callous way most supporters defend it shows them to be filled with the same streak of violence and desire to kill that actual murderers have.

Disgusting and totally uncivilized.

And my family actually has discussed how we would react if any of us were murdered. We agreed together that we would ask for life imprisonment, not death.

Well you know whenever i hear someone kills their cheating spouse I tend to feel the cheating spouse deserved to die. And dont think they should be given the death penalty.

Wonderful couldn't have happened to a better candidate . . .
He deserves every one of those stab wounds, he must have real;ly
ticked someone orff in there to have this happen.
Maybe he broke up with his "girl" friend or took someone elsesI think they should all serve life in the gen population in prison because the death sentence has sthem tooo protected
Make them mhave to watch there back for the res5t of their lives
That is my opinion on capital pumnishment . . . besides it stops no one from committing the crime they want to commit/

It is your opinion of course that execution by the State's is for "revenge"
I see it as removing someone rightfully from society for societies well being.
And cutting the appeals process down is NOT saying to eliminate it. Please stop spinning to make your otherwise lacking points

i loved rebecca, was devastated by her death. i hope her killer suffered greatly when he was stabbed, and at least received a portion of the pain and suffering she received, along with her parents. yes it is too bad they didn 't let him bleed to death.

and a wonderful person like her is murdered, and look at the losers we are stuck with today, lohan, spears, hilton, richie. such a shame.

WOW- how young are you?
Your thinking is flawed in so many areas that I'm led to believe that you are not yet out of you teens.

Cold-blooded murder is never justified.
YOU SAID "We'd still sentence them to death for that, thereby telling them that their response was illegal and wrong." I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU SAID THAT.

Executing someone for cold-blooded murder is justice for cold-blooded murder, regardless of the killers "thinking".

The guy is a nut. He won't feel the karma or the same kind of pain that Rebecca felt. He never can and never will. His mind doesn't work the way most "normal" peoples mind work. You could leave him out in public, have him stoned by people, stomped on, stabbed a billion times, and assuming if were possible he'd survive; he still wouldn't feel remorse or shame. He is simply not capable of it, which is why he did what he did in the first place.

Killing him wouldn't accomplish anything either. Sure, perhaps some people would feel better that justice "is done", but in the end, Rebecca is still dead, and the nut still won't feel remorse or shame. Does it deter? I don't know. I think people who are just as messed up as he is are going to do it no matter what, death penalty or not. Do I agree with the death sentence, a part of me does feel a sense of revenge when a death row inmate dies, but another part of me wonders if it really deters people who are insane from doing such things.

Another part of me wonders, what if someone truly is innocent and is put to death. It has happened, and the frightening thing is that it could be any of us.

I'M STILL JUST AGHAST AT YOUR COMMENTS:

We'd still sentence them to death for that, thereby telling them that their response was illegal and wrong. So, OUR desire for revenge is ok, but the murderers isn't?'

GOOD LORD- YOU ARE AN IDIOT! Please, for the sake of humanity, re-think your position on this.

If sentencing someone to death is more expensive then life in jail then I have the PERFECT solution! Let the family members of the victim(s) shoot the no good bastards! This way you save an whole lot of money & THE JOB GETS DONE RIGHT THE FIRST TIME

I am not saying to cut the appeals process out I am saying that to be allowed to appeal after appeal after appeal with long drawn out times in between is a bit much I also think that after two appeals they should not be allowed to appeal again unless NEW evidence is brought to light also do not agree wit the death penalty for the same reasons as "K" commented in #39
And as far as for revenge of course we all will want to see the person who killed our loved ones die but It is just our feelings it does not mean it should happen it is a natural feeling to want to see them suffer the same fate as the person they harmed it is a part of our grieving process that does not need to be carried out. However, they should be able to sit in prison and watch tv and earn degrees and do anything like that while the family of the victim foots the bill for the killer of their child or other loved ones with their taxes that is not by any means fair to the victims family as stated above put them to work everday all day with only breaks for food and bathrooms. I am sure they can be chained together like the old chain gangs and heavely gaurded while they work to earn a living to pay for their room and meals and they should not be allowed ANY sort of luxury. They can clean windows and yards and stuff, they can help to dig trenches for utility companies they can even stuff envelopes and make license plates like they used to and they should not recieve the money they earn it should go to the state and if any is left over to the victims family.

just so you know it is quite obvious that non of our judicial systems ideas of punishment seems to be any sort of deterrant to crime that is why they need to make the prisons a lot harder on the prisoners. They have it way to easy!!!
