Rebecca Schaeffer's Killer Stabbed

Killer Robert John Bardo, who was convicted of stalking and killing actress Rebecca Schaeffer in 1989, was stabbed by another inmate yesterday. Bardo was stabbed 11 times while he and fellow inmates were walking to breakfast in the prison yard, according to Mule Creek State Prison officials. He survived the attack.

Schaeffer was the star of the 1980s sitcom "My Sister Sam." Bardo was obsessed with Schaeffer and stalked her for several months. He eventually tracked her down with the help of a private detective, and shot her to death when she answered the door of her L.A. home. She was 21.

The suspect identified as responsible for stabbing Bardo is serving an 82-years-to-life sentence for second-degree murder. Bardo was 19 when he stalked and killed Schaeffer. He is serving life without parole. The case led to the classification of stalking as a felony in California.

76. I've had some time to think. Yes, the Death Penalty is possibly a deterrent to most who are capable of reasonable thought, possess balanced brain chemistry, and if the moral centers of their brains are properly developed.

For instance, a group of thug wannabes who have nothing better to do with their spare time and wonder if they should go out and kill an innocent homeless person just for fun. They would probably think twice, but a small percentage will no doubt just do it anyways.

Another instance, someone who is having a bad day is driving through rush hour traffic who just wants to get home, then gets cut off by someone who forgot to signal. Perhaps the thought of getting out of the car and taking a crow bar to their skull, and not following through because they'll end up getting the death penalty. However, a small percentage would still follow through on that anyways.

There are still far too many variables that don't calculate well with me. I still feel absolutely terrible for Rebeccas family and the thoughts that must have been running through her mind, and everyone else whose gone through this similar situation. And yes, when I first read about this guy, my thought was "Good for him. He deserves it."

As for the criminals that have nothing to do but buff up, obtain degrees and play hoops all day gleefully high fiving their fellow death row inmates all day while their victims family suffer; well, that's just not right and I can't see a solution for that. Solitary confinement forever, perhaps. I've never felt the need for revenge against someone whose wronged me because I know their life is punishment enough (and I make sure I tell them this).

I tell you, I have no reservations about child killers and child rapists where there is absolutely zero doubt that they committed the crime. Oh yes, snuff'm all.

80. Too bad his throat wasn't slashed. This piece of garbage and the stalker who killed John Lennon should have faced a firing squad immediately after their convictions. Screw all this "mental illness" crap and all the appeals. It's just a drain on taxpayers. Eff 'em all.

81. I still miss Rebecca Schaffer. I met her once at a My Sister Sam cast function (I was a guest). She was delightful. The show was underrated, as was her performance, which was subltle and just right. She would have gone far if that evil nutbasket hadn't been allowed to snuff out her life.

82. The family should sue the Private Investigator who found her for the killer to stab.

90. We should be using this unique moment to pause and remember the lovely life that was stilled rather than speculate on the fate of the bastard that killed her.
