Rebecca Schaeffer's Killer Stabbed

Killer Robert John Bardo, who was convicted of stalking and killing actress Rebecca Schaeffer in 1989, was stabbed by another inmate yesterday. Bardo was stabbed 11 times while he and fellow inmates were walking to breakfast in the prison yard, according to Mule Creek State Prison officials. He survived the attack.

Schaeffer was the star of the 1980s sitcom "My Sister Sam." Bardo was obsessed with Schaeffer and stalked her for several months. He eventually tracked her down with the help of a private detective, and shot her to death when she answered the door of her L.A. home. She was 21.

The suspect identified as responsible for stabbing Bardo is serving an 82-years-to-life sentence for second-degree murder. Bardo was 19 when he stalked and killed Schaeffer. He is serving life without parole. The case led to the classification of stalking as a felony in California.

93. : #88, I think she was making a point. This guy is still going about his business until now, albeit in prison, but I imagine he's proud of himself,. This woman's 21 year old body has been rotting in the ground for 18 years because of this man, who until now, was just going about his days. But her soul and her memory live.

Now, believe-you-me, it breaks my heart (and I'm sure it breaks 31's) when I hear about an innocent human being having spent time behind bars. But this is not an innocent human being, and there has never been any question of that. When there is any doubt, as is ALWAYS the case with those people who are innocent or later proven innocent, then prison must be the worst punishment they receive and nothing more. Then, there must be STRONG check and balance

Unless you've lost a loved one in this manner, you have no grounds whatsoever to force your opinions and your laws on those who HAVE and feel passionately about this subject. It's something you cannot fully understand until you've lived it. but at least, thank God, some people get it, whether it was their loved one or not, they "get it".

94. #88, I don't mean that you were wrong to say what you said, you're right. And the rest of that post was not toward you, it was to these bleeding hearts who believe ALL capital punishment is wrong.

97. "Unless you've lost a loved one in this manner, you have no grounds whatsoever to force your opinions and your laws on those who HAVE and feel passionately about this subject. "

I think a bit of distance leads to a more sound & sober course of action. I'd wanna kill the sob who murdered anybody I loved; luckily I haven't been put to that test. Happily I also live in a country that takes a saner view of the death penalty and forbids it.

Rebecca's death shook me when it happened, and I've thought of her since. Until today I haven't thought of her killer, and I'm happy to hear he's having a lousy time rotting in jail. Now, if you don't mind, I'm going to forget all about him again...

99. Here in Texas, our Governor recently passed new laws to STRENGTHEN the rights of Texans to carry and use their guns to protect themselves from the evil that lurks everywhere. Everyone I know owns multiple guns, and I live in a BIG city.

We target practice with pistols and rifles and bows. No criminal will get away with crime against our family- he will not go to jail, he'll go in the ground.

105. Restraining Orders we know now are not a deterrent and sometimes they escalate a persons violent tendencies. I found having a RO is only beneficial as a paper trail if you had to use deadly force to protect yourself.
Those against such measures need to move and change their entire way of life. This at an expense some cannot afford while the perp goes about their day. We cant expect the police to protect us they can't be with you all the time. .
