"Pirate" Contestant Found Dead of Apparent Suicide

Cheryl KosewiczCheryl Kosewicz, from the recently canceled CBS reality show "Pirate Master," was found dead in her home on Friday, KOLO-TV in Reno is reporting. Officials told the station the death is believed to be a suicide, but is still under investigation.

Just two months earlier, Kosewicz's boyfriend also took his own life.

Her death was confirmed by fellow "Pirate Master" contestant Nessa Nemir, who posted on the show's Facebook page, "All of the pirates and Cheryl's friends and family are shocked and devastated. It is a tragic loss that we all feel very deeply."

Another contestant, Joycelyn "Joy" McElveen, wrote on her MySpace page, "I lay in my bed tossing and turning waiting on someone to wake me up from this horrible nightmare. What nightmare you may ask? The nightmare that I thought I would never have to deal with the news that my best friend is dead. I immediately scream out in pain and sorrow."

Kosewicz was the fourth person eliminated (on the show), which was canceled just last week.

UPDATE [2:55PM PT]: A rep for "Pirate Master" tells TMZ: "Everyone at CBS who knew her is shocked and saddened by the news of Cheryl Kosewicz's untimely and unexpected passing. We will remember Cheryl for her extraordinary energy and compassion and we extend our deepest sympathies to her family and friends."

17. It is very sad I loved her on the show BUT AS FOR CANCELLATION ALL WHO WATCH I hope you know every tuesday you can go online and watch a new epidose every week for next 5 weeks they started it last tuesday so make sure to keep watching to find out how it ends.

19. Some are indeed weak. Some people have emotional babbage they need to get through or even something tragic that just came upon them such as this girl's boyfriend committing suicide. Add the fact that , HONEY, ot everybody needs or can handle 15 mins. of fame no matter how much fame is in that 15 mins.
this girl did not need to put herself out there on a reality tv. Maybe she had some emotional baggage and/or did nothave a personality for 15 mins. I know I would fortune over fame any day. You can have fame and those 15 mins.

You can bet her family/kids/ parents ,whoever will FILE A LAWUSIT AGANIST THE TV SHOW, ITS PROUDCERS, NETWORK, ETC. It is a bogus attempt theshow and its producers for her family members emotional problems ,and I thinkthe family should be awarded $0.00 including $0.00 in other damges.

21. That's very sad to hear. I watched the show and she seemed like a good person.

And to those posters that posted mean things: HAVE SOME COMPASSION AND RESPECT. how would you like it if people talked about you like that when you die.

24. Wow, This is SO sad..and for the people making rude comments-- Shame on you!

I read that her boyfriend--who she talks about on her myspace as being the "love of my life" committed suicide less than 2 months ago. Grief from a loss like that can do CRAZY things to people... I know, I have dealt with it. It is extremely hard to overcome.

Did you know most people who commit suicide have an untreated mental illness..which is NOT their fault, they were born with it... ??? Besides her boyfriend just killed himself two months ago... her show got cancelled on CBS..and she was an assistant district attorney in Reno-- imagine the stress. Nobody knows what she was going through! How are you to judge her?

How vile, mean and cruel can you people be?

This is VERY sad and a tragic loss! Too bad she didn't get help before it was too late.

I hope she is at peace now! And I hope her family finds peace somehow, too.

27. This girl was not a loser. She was class valedictorian, college athlete, lawyer...she dated a loser who killed himself and blamed her in the suicide note. She was a sensitive person who could not live with that guilt that he cruelly burdened her with. She made a bad decision in dating this guy and went downhill from there.

CHERYL WAS A VERY BEAUTIFUL GIRL AND MADE A HUGE DIFFERENCE IN ALOT OF PEOPLES LIVES. AS FOR HER BOYFRIEND NO ONE KNOWS WHAT HE WAS STRUGGLING WITH SO PEOPLE SHOULD NOT JUDGE OTHERS TIL THEY WALK IN HIS SHOES.
