Nicole Confirms Worst Kept Secret in Hollywood

Nicole Richie finally tells the world: "Yes, I am. We are. I'm almost four months."

In an exclusive sit-down with Diane Sawyer, the celebutante talks for the first time about the impending birth of her child with Good Charlotte singer Joel Madden.

ABC says in the interview, which airs on "Good Morning America" Thursday and Friday and on Hot mommas -- click to launch"20/20" Friday night, Richie "speaks candidly about why this particular constellation of young female stars -- Hilton, Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears, among others -- have behaved badly so publicly." She should know!

As for her upcoming stint in the slammer, Richie told Sawyer, "I have a responsibility and it's something that I did wrong, and if I could personally apologize to every single person that has lost a loved one from drunk driving I would," she said of her recent guilty plea. "And unfortunately I can't, but this is my way of paying my dues and taking responsibility and being an adult."

By the way, TMZ told you this tidbit on July 3rd.

31. TMZ don't brag... National Enquirer reported it first and everyone else followed. Popbytes reported it on MAY 30!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But TMZ brags they reported it over a month later. Nothing new TMZ skims the net and steals stories and reports them days after everyone else.

33. To #14 -- Good night, Irene. It's not "loosers" and it's not "foreignors" please, you're
correcting someone and calling them a name when you're so wrong is tacky. Sorry.

However, I must say that since this whole pregnancy story broke months ago, all of the "amateur" doctors and nurses stating that it can't be true due to anorexia is, well, just that: amateur. I guess you were one of them #6. Have you ever heard of Africa, India, etc.
and seen some of these really, poor, malnutritioned ladies? They don't seem to have
a problem carrying little babies and they don't have half of our resources available to
them.

Ms. Richie will do just fine. She's young, she's healthy and as far as any of us know,
she's not a junkie NOR anorexic.

Oh yeah, and that "foreigners think we're a joke" statement....says who? And, who cares?
Most of them wish they lived in the USA, warts and all. Thank you all.

Ahhhh website idea, what blog is really worthy? They are all just clones of each other but take the credit for breaking the news. What blog is really on the up and up and what are the slimes just stealing.

35. Nicole has spoken about having children for years. She has spoken frankly about it constantly while she was dating DJ AM. Nicole has problems true enough, but most forget that she was given up by her biological parents to be adopted by the Richies. She IS a child of a messy divorce that played out over the news. Her mother literally kicked Lionel and his lover's butt at the girls apartment on Doheny. Her father was consumed with his career. I know many girls who aren't in the hollywood who are everyday people who got strung out. The issue here is at least she is doing what so many people have been saying to Britney -- GET YOUR BUTT OF HOLLYWOOD! Give her some credit for trying to get clean and prioritize her life!

36. I respect Nicole. If she was such the heroine addict, drunk or anorexic that everyone portrays her to be, she could have easily taken the easy way out and had an abortion. I think it's great that she is taking ownership of the problems in her life and doing the best she can with her situation. I can't imagine that all the people leaving negative comments have never driven home after drinking when they shouldn't have, have never had sex with a bf/gf only after two months or have ever tried any kind of drugs.

37. I'm well aware that Nicole's statements to Barbara Walters could be the work of her PR team, but I'd rather think they came from Nicole herself. If so, they show a surprising maturity I didn't know was there on her part. Maybe now that she is responsible for the life of a baby, she'll look forward and discontinue the alcohol and drugs. Nicole isn't dumb. She's an intelligent young woman who can make a happy life for herself if she wants to. I hate to see the name calling. I'd rather think her future will be brighter than her past has been. Good luck, Nicole.

38. yeah im ashamed of joel right now... why did u do this joel? this baby has no chance of living and that baby will be taken to child services for neglect if nicole doesnt get her damn act together.. poor baby......
it wont survive in that household with nicole as a mom.... this day is the worst day right now!! U SUCK NICOLE

39. I agree Optimistic. That's the thing about Nicole - she's not dumb. She doesn't give off the same dead brain cell vibe as the other messed up starlets. I don't agree with much of her lifestyle, but I do think she has a brain in her head and I wish her, Joel and the baby a wonderful life. (crossing fingers)

44. You people are disgusting, making statements like "the baby won't live". How dare you, Nicole is the smartest one of all of the HOLLYWOOD STARSLUTS! Why so judgemental, everyone makes mistakes and sometimes it takes more than one mistake to get it right. Look at your own lives and the lives of people you know. In order to grow and mature, we have to learn from our mistakes, hopefully she has. For that reason, wish her luck and pray that she has a healthy baby, whether the relationship between Joel and her work out, let's hope that their baby will be healthy and happy. AND BY THE WAY, JUST BECAUSE YOU GET MARRIED DOES NOT MEAN ITS OK TO HAVE A BABY. TAKE A LOOK AT LINDSAY LOHAN...pray for her too.

45. Look what Hollywood has become. In the past interviews were conducted with stars such as Marilyn Monroe, Grace Kelly, Elizabeth Taylor, Judy Garland........now we're treated to the skanktacular antics of Britney, Paris, Nicole, Lindsay, Jessica, etc.....how pathetic in such a short period of time to go from respected leading ladies, to trash you wouldn't bring home to your mother without disinfecting them with something strong first.
