Golden Gals Gone Wild

Ever pictured the gals from the "Golden Girls" dressed up in leather and whips -- or just plain naked? Of course you have. Live the fantasy -- with the new "Golden Gals Gone Wild" art show, set to open in Los Angeles on August 11.

After purchasing a Chris Zimmerman oil painting of Bea Arthur in full frontal view, Lenora Claire felt inspired to create a show where artists submitted their naughtiest versions of the "Girls." This is the most age-inappropriately sexy show since Dennis Franz bared it all on "NYPD Blue."

Allow ample time after eating, and check out the link.

16. Lenora Claire is amazing. Whenever she shows up for something, its like a circus event. I am definitely checking out the event. Lenora, your stock is rising!!

17. Imagining boobs onto the Golden Girls isn't "art". There isn't anything creative or artistic about it. La raque de Betty White is not destined for the Louvre.
Taken in the right vein, it's no big deal. It's fun,it's kitsch, and it's a creative form of fan expression of admiration. But, there is no way you can try and convince people that she is trying to improve the world by exposing them to "art".

18. I think it's totally awesome. It makes you look at icons in a different light. Totally cool, insightful and a bit subversive.

And the chick is hot.

21. ted who posted a comment on Aug. 1 at 12:50 p.m. can eat my abortion... this show is going to be killer... art comes in many forms... it's nice to see someone doing something fun with art instead of taking themselves so seriously.

ted get over yourself.

23. Wow..some of you REALLY need to lighten up. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean its not art. Its fun and funny. No one needs to approve anything!

24. " Well you're a lovely Golden Girl, just like Bea Arthur
Just turn down the lights so we can go farther" - The Beastie Boys, "Boomin' Granny"

Okay, sure these pieces are meant to be provocative, but what I think some people are forgetting was that the television show The Golden Girls had already broken the ground of sexualizing at least some of its characters. And over the years, that has seeped into popular fantasy: Beastie Boys notwithstanding, I don't know how many times I heard friends in college (most of them women, as an aside) speak to the hotness of Bea or Rue... Granted, there was a level of joking involved - but there is almost always a level of real desire involved in jokes, and it's one of the functions, the duties, of art to dig into these desires, no matter how complicated and troubling it might be to some people.

Anyway Rue McClanahan at least apparently has no problem with all of this, since she's been doing events with Lenora!

25. Too late Mickey, you are rude.

26. Lenora isn't the artist, she's the curator. She had bought the painting for herself on eBay and her friends reacted so strongly (positively), she started searching for more art and eventually put it together into a show.

And just because you're offended by it, doesn't mean it's not art. And as for the girls themselves... I imagine they probably find the whole thing hysterical. Have you seen Bea and Betty in the Comedy Central Roasts? This is completely their cup of tea.

28. I think {Lenora} is beautiful and I also would have purchased that Chris Zimmerman painting. I'll be there for the opening, and yes. I do believe that this is art, controversial maybe, but the best artforms usually are. What is tasteless about it? They are portraying these classy ladies in a positve form. For those of us comfortable with our sexuality it is a light hearted and fun tribute. Thanks Lenora!

30. Ok,I'll clarify before anyone get's me wrong and goes all "YUR JUST FATT AN JELOUS" on me .
I agree art really isn't defined, everyone has a different pov on it.
But when I say I don't see it as "art",I mean that it seems certain people are trying to raise it up to be something more than it is to justify it , such as the improving the world by exposing it to art sort of thing. Certain people will enjoy it, but I just don't see it as "improving the world with culture" art, it's more fun everyone can share art. (to me, if you think it's the second coming of DaVinci, I won't tell you otherwise)
I don't have a problem with it, I just say own it.
