Whoopi -- Talk Show Jinx?

It was announced today that starting this September, Whoopi will be the new "View" co-host. Move ovah yentas, Goldberg is here!

What some may not remember: Goldberg had her own syndicated talk show: "The Whoopi Goldberg Show," which aired for one unmemorable season in 1992-93. The show was informal, had no house band, no co-hosts -- and no viewers! Oy vey! The talker was quickly cancelled and nearly as quickly forgotten ... until now.

Whoopi also had a brief foray into sitcomville with her uniquely titled, "Whoopi." Viewers had other plans. The comedienne won an Oscar in 1990 for "Ghost," and hosted the Oscars several times. While she was (sorta) successful with "Hollywood Squares," she had ample support from a rotating cast of Xs and Os.

Give the ladies on "The View" a rabbit's foot ... they bettah keep their fingahs crossed!

62. #40, you are being facetious right? minortiy in hollywood means, a darkER skinned women than most of their caucasian counterparts, but they would all pass the old paper bag test (the racist old test that said if you were lighter than a brown paper bag you are okay by societies standards). But they all have straight hair with blonde highlights and aren't all that dark. Look at Eva Longoria, Eva Mendez, Halle Berry, Beyonce, etc.... Darker skinned minorities aren't looked at as attractive by hollywoods old school standards. I would say that besides Gabrielle Union I can't think of many dark skinned actresses that are often referred to as beautiful. And when you think about it, While the industry primarily seems to show lighter skinned, straight-haired, blonde highlighted minorities as examples of beauty, European-American (Caucasian) women are tanning for darker skin, and getting breast, butt, and lip implants, and we all know that full lips, breasts, and butts are usually attributed to minorities.

*And for the person that mentioned the deleted posts, if this post seems to mysteriously disappear, then I will definitely agree with you.

63. I'm looking forward to Whoopi's debut as The View's commentator after Labour Day, as much as Barbara, Joy and Elizabeth are. I know who I don't want to see filling in whenever Barbara isn't on the show.

64. Whoopi Goldberg will be a jinx for this show. She is also an idiot like Rose O'Donell that is why I am not suprised they hired her. I will not be watching Whoopi either.

65. I am African-American, and I too think that there should be more flavor on the show, not just for the sake of pleasing one race or another, but so that we can hear the different views of women of other cultures. I am sure that it would be more contraversial if there were weeks when the visiting co-host was of a different nationality.

And, if we are being honest with ourselves, we all know that each culture has different views on current events. Why not have a Latino and An Asian and etc..... Forgive me, but I don't know the politically correct names of other nationalities, and in an effort not to offend anyone, I just stopped there, but the list goes on.

Still, we have to remember that even though these women are of different ethnicities, their views may not represent the views of their people.

Without being mean, I would like to join the nay-sayers about Elizabeth not coming back. I never understood her presence, and I am sure that they could find another Conservative that is more interesting than her. Heck, my best friend is Conservative, and she could fact trade Elizabeth under the table.

We all know that Barbara ain't going nowhere, so we are stuck with her. Even though I find her to be very dishonest and two-faced. I guess the only one that I do like is Joy. Go figure!

68. Time to take "The View" off Tivo. Whoopie's last couple of appearances have proven her to be old and closed minded. Just what "The View" needs -- not. (Joy Bahar? Time to bolt while you still have 1/4th of a career, sister!)

70. I just LOVE Whoopi. Not so much in standup comedic acts or for her political views, but simply because she is a really good actress, and is genuinely real. No fake Hollywood airs. She should be good humor to the show and some balance. Congrats Whoops!

71. Whoopi should have been a member of "The View" a long time ago. As a former Rosie fan, I cannot imagine who would have thought that Rosie could have peacefully shared the stage with other co-hosts. This past year was a big disappointment with its meaningless headline grabbing banter. I look forward to intelligent and entertaining discussions in the new season. I will resume watching "The View!"

72. Yawn.... if they wanted to entertain and do something different, stop making The View so lopsided politically. Add another conservative or moderate to the mix instead of 3 liberals against one conservative. Babs isn't there everyday anyway and The View needs 4 women fulltime. Whoopie is ok but what a bore - they would have done better to ad that chick from the D list series or even go to the other side and add a man to the mix.

73. Whoopi is a great actress. "The Color Purple" was a revelation. She was awesome in "The Long Walk Home". She is an excellent dramatic actress.

The problem is that she thinks of herself as a comedian when, in all honesty, she's just not that funny. She is a dramatic actress and should embrace that. She deserved the Oscar for "Purple" but didn't get it because she was a nobody. The only reason she got the Oscar for "Ghost" is because the Academy knew darn well she deserved it for "Purple".

Whoopi is an embarrassment on the talk show circuit. She's the typical liberal who speaks before she thinks and winds up embarrassing herself and looking like a fool.

Whoopi needs to go back to acting. She truly has a gift. She'd be great if she'd leave her politics at home and just act. But most liberals in Hollywood don't do that and that's why they all look like mindless idiots.

75. 1] She was also on the short lived sitcom Baghdad Cafe. I liked it.

2] I was one of the six people that actually watched Whoopie's talk show. It was brilliant when she interviewed Carol Burnett. However, it was unintentionally embarrassing and HILARIOUS when she interviewed Secretary of State Alexander Haig and said she was going to call him Big Al. His combined reaction of contempt and confusion was priceless. I LOVE Miss Whoop but, if anybody has a tape of that show PUT IT ON YOUTUBE!

3] I read that she signed for 2 million a year. Didn't she hear that Rosie turned down 5 million per for a two year contract? Are her people on crack or something?
