Celebrity Justice
Lane's Lawyer -- The Dead Kid is Partly to Blame

lane garrisonGarrison's lawyer Harland Braun just said, "Mr. Garrison should be sentenced based on the facts. He has a version in which he was approached to buy the alcohol and he inadvertently did it. He criminally caused the accident because he was a drunk driver. Suggesting Vahagn was partially at fault, Braun said, "The young man died because he was sitting in a car with a drunk driver."

As for the PSA, Braun said, "It was designed to be a depiction of how horrific this accident can be. It wasn't designed to be a recreation of this accident."

Braun continued, "This was a minor mistake in driving. Any drunk driver could have done it."

Braun then said, "The point we are trying to make is this is a tough case. Good people are drunk drivers."

16. AS terrible as it sounded for the attorney to say- it's the truth...

(the truth is, a ton of stupid ass people drink and drive, they just don't get caught) .

Should have it been stated in the hearing, I'm not sure, but it's the truth!

17. #13: No one here has never claimed to make a terrible mistake. But the man killed someone - accident or not. If I did it, I would take the blame and the responsibility for having done it. I feel bad that he made a terrible mistake, but the point its, he he made that terrible mistake.

18. Ok....well what can ya say...this is certainly a tragedy....Lane spending time in jail will not bring this poor soul back. Lawyers are all sleaze bags...I have never met one I actually liked...and my husband works with them all the time. I really think that if he spends his 90 days and has learned from this tragic experience what more can ya do....we have an already packed jail system...I get that he caused a fatal accident, don't get me wrong I have no tolerance for drunk driving...I just think that each case has to be evaluated separetly....I feel for the families in this case....I don't know what to say.....hate to be the Judge in this case.

20. This is a 27 year old man, who was in a car with two fifteen years old and a seventeen years old. He bought them alcohol. He hooked up with a fifteen year old. There is no excuse for his behavior, period. Why would a 27 year old man be hanging out with teenagers? There seems to be several other issues in play.

Bottom Line: Even if your drink was drugged, you drank it. You already knew you were drunk when you were behind the wheel. Holding a 17 year old boy responsible for being in car with you is just stupid. Especially if he got in that car to be with the 15 year olds.

This is just sick, and TMZ: You need to stop covering it.

21. The lawyer is doing his job. That's what he's getting paid for.

There's not too many people out there that are going to say "I'm guilty, sentence me to a long time in prison!" DUH....you can be guilty, know you are guilty, have incredible remorse and still not want to do a lot of time in prison.

Of course justice needs to prevail, but it doesn't mean that this guy has to like the fact that he's probably going up the river. I'd try to not go to prison too. I just couldn't afford the lawyer that could get me out of it

22. Good people can very well be drunk drivers. Good people make bad decision all the time. No one here can say they have never made a mistake.

23. Dead kid is the blame! Didn't Garrison supply the alcohol? And if he didn't then Lane still drove the dam car. For goodness sakes! Blaming the victim to get a lighter sentence is so manly of him.

24. The kid who was killed was only 17 years old and Garrison was 25 or 26 years old. Two other passengers in the car was girls about 15 or 16 years old, both injured. A 25 year-old-man with a blood alcohol concentration twice the legal limit out partying with teenagers -- what's wrong with that picture?

25. This attorney is the same SOB who got Rebecca Gayheart off when she ran over and killed a little boy who was crossing the street while Rebecca was speeding and talking on her cellphone.

What a guy....getting killers off.

26. HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!!!!! blaming the passenger in this case is like blaming the victom of a rape!! I have never been so disgusted with the outcome of a court case before. this lawyer need to be hung by his short and curlys!!! If Mr. Garrison were truly remoreseful he should have stopped the lawyer in his tracks for taking this route. I have worked in the courts for several years and am seriously in question of the outcome of this case. I'm glad LG stood up and admitted his blame in this, but NOT to put blame on a bunch of kids who were in the vehicle with him. they were obviously "star-struck" teens impressed with the fact they wer eout partying with a celebrity. I am completly dumbstruck by the calousness of this lawyer!!

29. WHat kind of parent are they for letting there kid to drink any way its the parents fault

Posted at 3:56PM on Aug 2nd 2007 by Bob

30. Harland Braun should be ashamed, very ashamed. There is no "minor mistake" when you choose to get drunk, get in a car and drive.
