"Saturday Night Fever" Starlet Is Stayin' Alive

Disco may be dead but, believe it or not, John Travolta's "Saturday Night Fever" co-star isn't! More than a woman!
Karen Lynn Gorney
While the 1977 film made Travolta an international phenomenon, his female co-star, Karen Lynn Gorney (remembah huh?!), hustled off into obscurity. And that ain't no jive talkin'. Although disco duck John was a Scientolono-show, Karen, who played Tony Manero's dance partner, turned up at a special 30th Anniversary party for the dance classic in Manhattan on Monday. She finally made it out of Brooklyn!

While her career may have turned to dust, at least the 62-year-old is holding up better than Travolta's weave!

31. I didn't think her Brooklyn accent was bad, because my husband is from Queens and I am from New Jersey. It sounded just about right, and I used to watch her when she played Tara on All My Children in the early 70s when I was in first grade.

32. , she was real, not a typical beaty, that would have made her less interesting, and she was a good dancer,, though they played it down.. she was in great shape

33. John was paired with Olivia Newton-John back in Grease back in 1978, and she is about 6 years older than him. Gorney is about 8 years older, so there isn't much of a difference there.

35. Compared to Donna Pescow, who played the neighborhood whore in SNF, this woman was an absolute goddess.

37. AH MEMORIES OF MY FAVORITE KIND OF DANCING AND DRESSING. AS FOR THE FILM SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER IT WAS OK ACTING FOR ALL AND GREAT DANCING FOR TRAVOLTA. KAREN GORNEY FOR HER PART WAS STIFF AND FELT VERY SELF CONCIOUS IN THE ROLE AS WAS EVIDENT. HER DANCING WELL TRAVOLTA COULD MAKE ANYONE LOOK GOOD.

38. Karen - Do not listen to the negative comments here. The people on this board (and most others like it) are negative and nasty towards almost everyone. Don't take it personally. Many people thought you were great in the role of Stephanie.

39. Man, you people are harsh!
What the hell is/was so great about John "Sweathog" Travolta? I'd rather spend an evening with Karen Lynn Gorney than that space agent.

42. I actually had Karen try to sell me some art in a gallery in NYC just a few years after the movie. She must have a had a really bad agent!

43. How funny both of his love interests in Saturday Night Fever and Staying Alive, both were leading ladies on All My Children,
Didn't care much for Karen/Tara/Stephanie in the first one, F.Hughes was great (and still looks great) in the 2nd one, and Dear Tara have you noticed how well your arch rival Erica Kane has aged????????

44. I liked Stephanie Braxton's Tara better, but I never cared for the character. I always thought the Donna Beck/Billie Clyde storyline was hilarious.

45. I loved Karen Lynn Gorney as Tara on AMC. She was not a great dancer in Saturday Night Fever. But her problem, if what I read was true, is that she did not handle her career very well after the hit movie. She thought she was "hot property" and was a no-show on talk shows. She later appeared on the soap again, not aging well. I'm glad to see her pretty smile. Travolta wears a weave?
