Broadway Not Aiken for Claymates Musical

An "American Idol"-themed musical inspired by Clay Aiken and his army of obsessive fans has gone up in smoke just one day after it went up in lights on a Broadway marquee. Did we mention it was about Clay Aiken obsessives?
Clay Aiken
"Idol: The Musical," billed as a satirical look at a troupe of Clay-mates from Ohio, opened two days ago at the 45th Street Theater, and promptly flopped like Clay's clammy hand on Kelly Ripa's mouth just a day later. The show's producer, Todd Ellis, said that he was shutting down the show because of a "lack of advance ticket sales, a lack of positive feedback from audience members and critics and a lack of sustainable financial resources." The rough English translation? It sucked real bad.

Backstage magazine called "Idol" "interminable, amateurish, headache-inducing," and that was just in the first paragraph of its review. Just for the record, neither Aiken nor "American Idol" the show were involved in the production.

16. What's the draw about Clay? The Claymates are, for a large part, moms who want a son just like him. He went from an ugly duckling, who had talent, to a star. He's polite, doesn't get into trouble, he has intriguing looks. He will never leave his Mom for another woman. No one wants sex with him, he's become "idealized". Geez, he has a solid religious background, he was a special education major, he works for the world's children through UNICEF. His affectation is irrelevant. We really don't know anything about a personal life. Mothers don't want to know everything about their sons.

17. How can any female find him attractive? He has so many girl qualities. He sounds like a girl, moves his body like a girl, and behaves like Steisand on crack with his contemptuous attitude. I could never be attracted to a man who is more of a female than me. Imagine dating him and having to schedule partner manicures, pedicures, eyebrow waxing, and bikini waxes? If he is a man, then he should behave as a man.

18. Clay Aiken had NOTHING to do with this musical, or whatever it was.
I haven't seen it, but I heard it wasn't good, so whatever.
Why do you feel the need to insult Clay???
Does it make you feel better about yourselves or something?
PATHETIC!

24. TMZ NEVER gets their facts straight! If they did they'd publish the photos (available on UTube) of Kelly Ripa putting her hand over Regis's mouth.

25. Harvey Levin...your facts suck! Kelly Ripa, on several occasions (BEFORE CLAY WAS ON THE SHOW) stuck her hand over Regis's mouth!!!!This was photographed and can be found on YouTube.

If you consider yourself a journalist then how come you've never shown these photos?
I DARE you to let people see what a big hypocrite Kelly Ripa is!

27. The flop of this show just proves that people really don't like being made fun of.

As others have said, Clay Aiken had nothing at all to do with the creation or production of this show. It was someone else's brainchild and work.

28. I can't believe what a bunch of juvenile delinquent nerds you are. So quick to throw out the name calling and the bashing of people and things you know nothing about. What a better world this would be if we concentrated more on being nice to one another and showing a display of integrity. But when we have a loser and a liar for a president, how can we expect anything else from the younger generation. This world is falling apart like never before, and instead of concentrating on making things better, you are just contributing to its falling apart. I can't believe how filthy the language has gotten. It's sooo opposite of how I speak. If we concentrated on treating others how we want to be treated, wouldn't it be a much better world?? With the direction we're going, I'm getting embarrased to be an American. I can't believe how so few people have any values any more. I love Clay Aiken's music and I think he is a good looking male. What difference does the rest of your garbage make, and why do you take such pleasure in seeing how much you can degrade and beat people up? What if people treated you like that? Have you stooped so low that you wouldn't care? When I see how parents bring their kids shopping with them and let them just run wild in the stores, destroying anything in their way, I can see why the younger generation is totally falling apart. There is no respect anymore. We CAN'T have everything we want whenever we want it. Why don't we all grow up and concentrate on making this world a better place to live, instead of seeing how much we can tear it apart every day .. and clean up our mouths in the meantime. When I see what's happening to Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, Lindsey Lohan it truly scares me .. and when I see how many people adore Rosie Odonnell and Ellen Degeneres .. that REALLY scares me. We are destroying the world as we know it if people keep on acting like they do. When are we going to grow up and behave like adults who have integrity and values. I am SO TIRED of the majority of people having to do what the minority wants. God help you. He is the only answer. Too many people have taken God out of their life. If people had God in our life people wouldn't behave like they are. I sure am glad I do.

29. I guess no one read that Clay and AI had nothing to do with this show.............so why not comment on the show instead of Clay who has "nothing" at all to do with it. Gesh @@

30. Not gonna lie. I was there at the show. Bad show + amazing talent (who knew the show sucked and let us laugh at them laughing at themselves) = 1 hell of a fun night.
