David Arquette: Copycat?

TMZ has just learned that actor/producer David Arquette and his company, Coquette Productions, Inc. are being sued for copyright infringement.

In the lawsuit, filed yesterday in Federal court, Fritz Junker is accusing Arquette's movie, "The Tripper," of being a copy of his film, "The Truth About Beef Jerky." According to the lawsuit, "A reasonable audience presented with the two works would recognize 'The Tripper' to be based upon 'The Truth About Beef Jerky.'" They both sound like high-concept pieces.

Case in point: Both movies tell the story of a group of modern-day hippies who travel to the Redwood Forest of Northern California for a music festival and are hunted and killed by a psychopath who hates their dippy-trippy lifestyle. We smell Oscar!

Junker is seeking monetary compensation in an amount to be determined at trial. He claims "The Tripper" has destroyed the commercial potential of "The Jerky" and that he has suffered significant harm and injury.

We're waiting for a call back from Arquette's reps.

16. yep you got to watchout for copyright infringement. in my site i used to incude full lyrics excerpts. but now i just use a verse i know from my head. to be on the safe side

17. Uh... David Arquette is like third generation Hollywood. Sure, his family weren't the Barrymores and his wife did make bank on that sitcom, but his last name still opens doors and his talk show appearances do show some influence from his grandfather.

I do not believe David stole any ideas. Besides, I can think of other films with
hippies that have been made. Like 'I drink your blood'(really old film) and 'Blood Freak'
(pot turns guy into a killer with a turkey head)

24. David is a nice guy, thats why Courtney loves him. If you look at them niether one has done much work since the birth of their daughter. I am sure they are enjoying their family, and have plenty of money to live on.

26. I believe that David came up with the idea for "The Tripper", which, was an awesome movie. This person who is sueing, is just trying to get press for his silly movie.
Why wasn't he out doing this in April, when the movie was released in Theatres.
David and his production company did nothing wrong...

29. Both parties will just have to prove when they came up with the idea.Pretty simple really to settle it.
It's not a common idea so someone borrowed from someone for sure.
(If the guys movie is really about what he says it is ).

David Arquette is not ugly and i think some of you people are iddiots to say things like hes only famous for marrying courteney, he was famous before he even met her or else how would he have gotten the part on scream in the first place, on anothe note i think he's incredably funny and sweet and i think you'll probably find thats what courteney sees in him too. And finally best of luck to him in the lawsuit i hope he wins!
